I don't usually do project videos but I wanted to give it a try. I have a few other videos in the que but I wanted to release this one first. I install new cranks, stem, wheels and tires on my beautiful classic vintage colnago Profil CX. What a huge difference. The bike looks so much better. Please comment below

I just scored a vintage NOS Campagnolo GS Crankset from 1985 as signified by the 11 with a rectangle around it. Campagnolo cranksets are beautiful. I had a custom Titanium frame made last year by a custom builder here in the US, and I'm going for that retro look with some modern components also. I love your bikes, I don't know what I would do with so many. Just kidding, I'd ride them all. 😉

Incredible bike! I'm aspiring to get the same look, sans pantographed chainring on my restoration project. Can't wait to get my 1981 Super out of the paint booth to start to build her up.

@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Yes. I bought just the frame, from Italy. I built it up using a combination of NOS, some period correct parts, and some modern.

I've got a Campy Mexico crank on my Olmo, along with panto'ed rings, and it does indeed look great! Plus, it's another excuse to polish aluminum and make it really shine! :-) The shop is looking good, and best wishes to Manny and his Schwinn shop reproduction.

Hi John! Thank you very much. I've started a collection myself. An Eddy Merckx Anniversery edition and a CIÖCC cromovelato '84. I really liked your old mancave. But I guess your wife was a bit tired of all the bikes. 😄

@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 3 года назад
Hi. Sounds like you have a great collection. I still have the old mancave. It's not changing. I use it as a shop at home to fix others bicycles as well as some of the polishing that I do. Wheel building and huge jobs my still be done there.

Hello there, can you tell me where the name Serroni comes from as I know that Colnagos first name is Ernesto. Gorgeous bicycle by the way, takes me back to my racing days in the 1980s in Prospect Park with the Kissena Cycling Club.

Giuseppe Serroni was an Italian bicycle racer that had success in the early '80s . Google him.

Back in the day the smallest chainring was a 42 and near the end of friction shifting Campy came out with a 41. This may explain the Nuovo chainring on Super crank. Cant remember if it was NOT available in Super 41 or maybe I have it backwards?? It's been almost 40 years so don't quote anything I say.
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 2 года назад
Hi, This bike wasn't stock when I purchased it. I looked at and have had many bikes of that era and it was a "thing"to put that NR chainring on a SR crank. Dont know why.

These vintage cranksets are the most eye catching and that is why I want to replace my Shimano Dura Ace 9000 crankset with a vintage crankset. I purchased a Campagnolo GS from 1983 -1985 brand new in the box. The seller couldn't tell me what the BCD was but I bought it anyway. It has a 116 BCD. The rings are 53-42. I prefer a 52- 36. The smallest ring that will work on this crank is a 35T. I can't find anything, not anything in a 30's tooth range. I have been able to find 52T rings. Can you point me in a direction to try and help me find what I'm looking for? Here in Pittsburgh we have a bike museum called Bicycle Heaven and I was thinking of trying them also but they aren't really a store. Thanks in advance. That Colnago is looking good by the way.
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 3 года назад
I need to get to that bike shop in Pittsburgh. I've heard of it, saw some videos etc. If you're looking for a 30 tooth chain ring for the front that will be challenging. The only thing I can think of is the old TA cranks. Or get a sugino triple crank and use the granny ring and the middle ring as your top ring. Those sugino triples you can go as low as a 24 for the granny and is high as 32 I believe. The middle sprocket is a 110 mm and I think you can go down to a 34 but don't quote me on that. It's been a while. Lol

@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage I actually got some valuable info on my vintage crankset after a chap from Phil Wood told me about a site called Velobase. I must have caught the site just in the nick of time because the next day it expired and is no longer up and running. The name of the crankset was the Gran Sport or Victory Gruppo. I did find out that this crankset is a 116 BCD and the smallest ring that was made for the crankset was a 35T. I did purchase a 40T on ebay yesterday. I imagine a 40-52 will shift ok. I think I might be able to live with it. We do have hills here in my neck of the woods. I appreciate you replying to me and trying to help.
