Mike Judge revealed on Letterman Show that he actually met Grim Reaper's guitar player and when Mike realized who he was, he said "I'm sorry." Luckily the guitarist said he loves the show and he never would have watched the show again if Beavis and Butthead had said their video looks cool. :D
i spoke to nick (their guitarist) he coached me and a few other kids at a camp at sweetwater where he works and he showed us these clips he thought they were super funny haha
Eight Beers?!? Dude! It's like he splurged on Beers, then went and ate a bunch of ho-hos, and followed that up with about 100 pizzas! He really let himself go!!! I'll never forget how out of shape that he was back in 2021. He sang some songs at a venue, then, after hastily apologizing to the fans, left the stage. The first several concerts that he did this past summer were horrible. I'm surprised that Nikki Sixx didn't kick him out of The Crue! That was a very difficult time for Motley Crue, man. First, Tommy Lee snaps some ribs, and had to be replaced by Tommy Clufeto for awhile. Vince definitely had a lot of trouble keeping up...and now, Mick Marrs has been replaced by John 5. Well...hmm..... let's see what's next for these bad boys. I guess we'll find out soon enough...
@@ronaldshank7589 Neil did let himself go. I’m sure he eats out seven nights a week but if you look at pictures of him as he progress through the 80s, you can see that he doesn’t have the genetics to stay as thins as he was back in 1981. By 1990 he was noticeably heavier.
Until Beavis says, “because he’s fat”, my assumption when I first saw this on TV was that the pig comment was a reference to his face (which, let’s not forget, sucks!) haha
HONESTLY: Only crybaby bands/artists whined about it when roasted by "The Boys". As a musician, the group & I would've been honored to be roasted. We were fans...& even STILL liked everything there. They even made the stuff that TRULY SUCKED actually "kinda-sorta rule"🤣 (with the exception of T-Baby's 🎶Cold In The D🎶...that TRULY sucked & "The Boys" helped it)🤔
RIP Steve Grimmett. 😢 Not only was he one hell of a singer, but he acknowledged Beavis and Butthead and chuckled about it. Clearly he had a sense of humor about himself. Rest in peace.
yea they or should I say Mike judge preferred more alternative crap over real metal like Grim reaper , Mercyful Fate and other bands they made fun of. I never liked the Seattle crap grunge shit like nirvana, Alice in chains was ok but Grim reaper was a great band.
@@arturoalmazan5262 Mike Judge ironically revived as many metal band careers as he did destroy them. Including me as I didn't have cable/sky/MTV when they had headbangers ball only playing metal videos.
First 30 seconds are soul crushingly hilarious. Its just perfect delivery. "Is this Spinal Tap?" "Tap is cool." "This isnt Spinal Tap....THIS SUCKS!" and then jsut the eruption of laughter when the guy starts singing.....oh god its almost as good as the Balls to the Wall video
The irony was that Grim Reaper and their music probably got more exposure by B&B ripping on their extremely cheesy videos than they did when they were actively touring and promoting their albums. It was a boon to a defunct band which explains why Grim Reaper's members had such a good sense of humor about it.
they don't have the part where Butthead asks if Beavis remembers the ones with the big gnads that hung way down and Beavis asks "the bass player?" and Butthead says he was talking about the pig 😂
while i laughed my ass off first time i seen this, this song is awesome and his voice is frighteningly powerful. i wish grim would of made more albums. they kinda got shafted like anvil because the singer wasnt good looking. look at mick jagger hes as ugly as they come. grim was no stones but they deserved more.
I downloaded Grim Reaper songs because of this too. Did you see the interview when Mike Judge thought he was going to get his ass kicked by Grim Reaper and they told him they loved his commentary on Beavis and Butthead so they told him about more of their crappy videos. Fear No Evil and Rock you to Hell
@@meyerj75 It's a good point. They were an actual band who made it to MTV by their OWN merits and not Carl Reiner's. I don't have any videos on MTV to make fun of so they accomplished more than me.
I don't know the studio lingo for the recording technique for creating vocal note sustain, but that 17 second ending vocalization is quite rediculous even for 80's metal standards.
it's called 'singing' the two classic forms of vocal power are Opera tenors and heavy metal singers, eric adams (stee Lunged Eic Adams arguably the greatest heavy metal singer in history in Manowar) could hold =high C chest notes for over 1minute in his pomp in abut 1986 to 1991
He probably did sing this legitimately, but it’s possible to layer multiple takes and fade out the ones that end early and get a pretty convincing result. Much easier today with pro tools but it could be done analog too. A good ear will be able to tell tho.
I have good memories of seeing B&B do that. I remember them calling Matthew Sweet a wuss at the height of when I was a fan of his, and somehow I wasn't offended. (I might have just been thrilled they were showing his video to Superdeformed.) I've seen plenty of fans of Death who need to lighten the hell up over B&B's commentary!
Grim Reaper were already done, their (great) album was sadly too late for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and wasn’t either Glam or Thrash so the US wasn’t interested. Timing, bad luck and bad videos killed their chances before B&B had a go.
@@nukedukem1 It didn't age well and it's also not true. Grimmett by most accounts was a dickhead and regularly screwed over bandmates. Hence why there are like 20 different members of GR over the years.
Wasn't this about the time mtv started using these characters to sabotage the very music that put them on the map so they could slowly condition the audience to their switch over to alternative, pop, and rap completely ?
No, they always liked CURRENT music from the 90's and dissed on old 80's music. They were HUGE fans of Pantera, Butthole Surfers, Henry Rollins, White Zombie, etc etc
@@StonedMeadowOfDoom It was the age when it became cool to be ironic all the time, therefor they could not like old stuff that seemed a bit more serious and not making fun of itself. Ironic stuff can never be truly heartfelt and will not stand the test of time, so they were digging their own grave.
So much ignorance in these comments. I bet every one who bashes Grim Reaper here is basing their opinion solely on this video. Mike Judge made fun of Slayer too, so his judgment is highly suspect. Also, when forming an opinion on a band, it's a pretty good idea to judge them based on their ACTUAL FUCKING MUSIC rather than the way they look. Iron Maiden looked goofy back then too and they're legends. Grim Reaper is a classic metal band and it makes me sick to see all the bandwagon haters here.
