BECCLES TOWN RESERVES 1 WOODBRIDGE TOWN RESERVES 2 (HT 0-1)
Woodbridge Town Reserves retained the Senior Reserves Cup with a 2-1 win to repeat last season's result against the same well organised Beccles side. Jack Newman scored the winner in injury time and Ryan Keeble the other just before the break in entertaining match at Bungay Town Fc.
Ryan Keeble's cross found Mallett after 2 minutes but his shot was blocked and Newman's effort from the rebound went wide of the post. The Woodpeckers came close after 10 minutes when Liam Silver's shot hit the post with Beccles keeper Tom Wickham beaten and a minute later Captain Wickham punched clear from Mallett's cross to keep the scoreline blank. Keeble's effort from 20 years tested Wickham after 14 minutes and Keeble's pass to Mallett after 16 minutes resulted in another Wickham save from Mallett. Beccles' Rob Bishop was brought down when clean through by Woodpeckers keeper Ben Maidens after 21 minutes, the striker stepped up with the Penalty and Maidens saved well to his left with the spot kick retaken and again the keeper saved well to his right with the retake. Bishop's shot on the half hour missed the target but after 41 minutes after Mallett's one two from Silver's pass, Keeble slotted past Wickham from an acute angle to open the scoring. Lewis Holland came close to equalising after 43 minutes but his effort went inches wide of the post.
The dangerous Bishop shot wide after 51 minutes from close range and Callum Grimmer's effort was well blocked by Maidens after 53 minutes but after 61 minutes from Lewis Smy's accurate cross Substitute James Hubbard's header was cleared off the line by the Beccles defence. Ethan Broom's through ball after 70 minutes found Mallett but he was thwarted by the Beccles defence and after 72 minutes Finley Boreham headed over for Beecles but after 75 minutes they equalised from Ewan Gallagher's cross a Woodbridge defensive mistake and Grimmer was first to the rebound to make it 1-1. Bishop's header was on target after 80 minutes and Nathan Wood's free kick was punched clear by Maidens and from Substitute Jake Hughes' (who scored twice in last year's final) cross found Mallett but his goal was ruled out for offside. Beccles Sub Callum Holmes' shot from 20 yards was parried by Maidens and after Mallett's shot was blocked, Hubbard missed the target from the rebound but in the 4th minute of injury time from Mallett's cross with Hubbard causing problems in a crowded penalty area, Newman made no mistake with a first time shot to retain the cup for the Woodpeckers.
