@jasminebenfreha Hi Jasmine. I am a huge fan of Daniel and I have learned many moves from him. But, today, I have a question for you. What do you look for in a salsa dance partner? That is, what does a leader do well that makes you want to dance with him every chance you get? When I began dancing six years ago, I was a struggling beginner. Then, I learned many moves and wanted to do them every dance (regardless of the song). I thought I could "wow" the woman with what I knew. But, now, I am becoming very comfortable with my salsa dancing and want to be the salsa dancer that women "want" to dance with every chance they get. So, Jasmine, what tips do you suggest for a man so that he can "wow" a lady on the dance floor? Perhaps you can make a video about this. Thanks in advance. Michael

You asked a really good question and I'd like to answer from my experience as a dancer. 1) Being mindful of anatomy of the shoulders and not to throwing or flinging my arms hard when he turns. One of my best friends is a phenomenal dancer, but when he leads he gets really enthusiastic and throws his arms really hard (I think it's because he does big movements and catches momentum). This is fine, but it doesn't take into account the parts of the follower's body that are vulnerable (rotator cuffs and etc). It can be easy to tear or end up soar. Good leaders somehow find a way not to jerk my arms around or use momentum from their weight to overturn. (I think its because they have more control over their own bodies?) 2) Leading with firm or deliberate enough cues. Good followers don't anticipate and I won't know a guys moves if we haven't learned at the same studios. I love followers who clearly communicate what they want by following through or not signaling too lightly. 3) Smiling while we dance. I loveeeeeee when the lead is beaming because we're dancing to his favorite song, or I'm following well. 4) Trying new things. When a lead sees that I follow well, I love when he is willing to try new moves with me that he has been wanting to learn for a while, even if he messes it up. It's nice when they say "I've never done this one before, but let's try it". My answer is always "yes!". 4) Dancing with intentional style, and knowing his own. I love leads that look like they are floating on clouds, and I love leads that dance in a grounded way with more Afro sort of movements, and anything in between. The beautiful part about it is when he knows his dance and styles it his way. I see him having fun and I match that style and go on that journey to feel and express the music the way he is. 5) Asking me to dance. I love men who are willing to ask me to dance. I personally never want to be sitting and I enjoy when men see me get off the dance floor and are not afraid to ask me right back onto it politely. And yes- ask me multiple times in one night! Lol 6) Not making a big deal if either of us gets off a step, and even adjusting to the same step in style, maybe adding a shoulder movement, extra hop, or etc. Let me know your thoughts and hope this helps!

Trust the lead and don’t anticipate the moves. If you can’t trust the lead it’s ok to stop dancing, it’s your body and you have a right to protect yourself from getting injured.
