As a year 12 student trying to do her A-levels and also find a uni course without any guidance due to the pandemic, this video has answered all my questions. I went from just knowing that I want to be a primary school teacher to knowing all the ins and outs of the uni course. Thank you so much Connie, you've really helped me! :)
Did you have an interview to get onto this course? I’ve had interviews for my nursing and they went really well I just don’t know what to expect from an interview for Primary Ed which is very nerve wracking! If you can let me know that would be amazing thank you x
Yes - we did have to have an interview. From what I can remember there was a small writing numeracy assessment (not a test though) do more just to see how you are. Then there were discussions about some education articles and questions about teaching etc, there were group elements and independent too xx
Hey great video. Just had a question when creating lessons, PowerPoints, and adapted worksheets for different abilities, what websites do you use with created lessons.
This is super helpful so glad I found i am in year 12 and just trying to figger out options and I was confused but what website where telling me and this has really helped and give me so much more insite
Hi, was just wondering if you could help as I’m stuck between 2 unis for this year to do primary ed, bgu being one of them! I’m really torn, and main thing holding me back is whether bgu is almost too small? I’m not a massive party goer so that side of it doesn’t bother me but was just wondering what your thoughts were on this? Thank you! x
Thank you for the great video, it was so helpful! I am planning to apply for this course as an international student, but scared ill be rejected because I only have general volunteer experience such as reading with children and thats about it. Is it complusory to have work exprience to put on your personal statement?
Thank you! Glad I could help! I would say it is great to include all experience you have had with children in your personal statement as it highlights why you know you want to do that course and why you would be such a great teacher! However, I have a feeling that they will become more lenient with the experience you have due to the pandemic etc. Any experience you have is great and any more you can get is even better!x
Same here (international student)! I've applied to early years education with QTS at five different universities and got interview responses from two of them. Quite nervous because I dont know what to expect but also looking forward at the same time😫😂
@@aria6709 Hi, They surprisingly went quite well!! Three of the five universities came back to me with an offer and the other two are yet to give me an interview date. I still remember how I could hear my voice shaking in the first interview that I did and remember feeling so nervous😂 Are you applying to the same course? How did it go for you?
Aisha Sack hey girl, i'm so glad it went well for you!! I think i'm planning on going to uni of hertfordshire to study primary education w qts as that was my first choice, lmk if you applied here too x
Hi! I am currently on a gap year ands wondering if doing a degree in education would still help me become a primary school teacher as don't fancy anything else. All my grades are high but was wondering what the negatives were. Thank you
Hi Connie. I have received an offer letter for PGCE 5-11 Years from Bishop Grosseteste University. I want to know more about this university in terms of location, approach of the area, job placements, any traveling and overall expenses for an international student. Since you have already studied there, can guide me better. Please suggest!
That’s amazing - congratulations! So, the city of Lincoln mostly has uphill and downhill (a steep hill separating them). The high street and shopping is downhill and BGU is at the top of the hill, around a 20 minute walk. It’s in a lovely quiet area, lots of green space and lovely walks - most of my placements have been within half an hour, either driving or public transport and I believe if it is over a certain amount, the university cover more of the costs. I’m not sure of any additional expenses for international students but please let me know if you have any more questions! X
@@connietaylor6602 Hi hope you are good. How are the part time jobs availability near Bishop Grosseteste University as I am an international student and will need to work part time to support my expenses. Is it easy to get a part time work nearby uni?
Hi, I’m good thank you and hope you are too. I do have some friends that have had part-time jobs throughout university, these could be in the shops in town or supermarkets nearby. The University does have a student scheme, I can’t remember what it’s called, but where students can get involved and do things for the University and get paid a little bit of money too! X
Hi Connie I have 7 to 8 years of teaching experience at primary level but i am not living in uk can i apply for this course to enhance my skills Kindly reply me for an international teacher what is the process to get admission in this course Thanxs
Hi there, yes - you can do this course and the experience should be very helpful. In order to apply for university in UK you need to apply through UCAs - this will include a personal statement where you can talk about all of your skills and experience! Hope this helps!
As far as assessment is concerned, there are essays and practical assignments (no written exams). To pass the course (especially when courses like these offer QTS), you have to be observed teaching a wide range of lessons (English, Phonics, Maths, Science, etc) which is basically all of them. Usually, the teacher who you work with (or School Based Mentor; SBM for short) will observe your lessons but there will be a few occasions where a University Based Mentor (UBM for short) may carry out a joint observation. But if you're feeling anxious about it, please don't let that stop you from applying. BGU will support you in every step of the way.
Just to follow up on what I've said. I am an ex BGU Student who attempted the Primary PGCE (5-11) last year. I dropped out less than 3 weeks before the lockdown. That's how I know what prospective trainees like yourselves will have to go through whether it's Primary Education with QTS or a PGCE.
Hi! So in order to get everything, you have to pass the course (which is the degree) and then the QTS which allows you to become qualified and have a class of your own. You pass the course by completing a variety of assignments - as stated below - there are no exams! There are written essays, presentations, online discussions and more. For the QTS, someone does watch you teach but this really isn't as much pressure as it sounds. On the block placements you are given a school based mentor (SBM, who is normally your class teacher) who will observe you weekly to guide and support your practice, the feedback they offer you is not to critique your teaching but to help you improve. You will also have a university mentor who will visit you twice, they will also observe you and speak to you class teacher about how you are getting on and see how they can support you. Please do not let your anxiety hold you back, it might be the best choice you make!! x
I’m a Masters degree holder from a university in the UK and I want to become a teacher in the UK.. Do I need to apply for the QTS or PGCE ? Or what should I Do? Kindly help me out. Thanks
Hi! Yes, you still need to gain the QTS (qualified teacher status). The easiest way for you to do this, if you already have a degree is completing a PGCE as it is only one year x
Very helpful thank you! I got a question I didn't pass GCSE science but I have 2 and a half years working as a TA and with sen children will unis still accept me?
It’s definitely worth applying! Although science is still a foundation subject - English & maths knowledge are better to come in with. You will do science work etc on the course so there is definitely opportunity to grow that knowledge and your experience too will be a great asset! X
On the website it does say GCSE English, mags and science required but they make exceptions in other areas and people sometimes don’t meet every entry requirement! It’s worth applying / contacting the university for more information xo
@@relaxing0130 definitely! I think some are a lot stricter but others are lenient because it’s a lot more about who you are to become a teacher - as well as having knowledge too! That’s why I think it’s always worth to email or ring as it could be worth it x
Good question!! I would say because it’s quite small, everything is on one campus and quite easy to navigate. Also when I went to the open days, the lecturers were really interesting, and they are really interested in you as well which was nice ☺️
@@connietaylor6602 thank you! I found the lecturers really nice too but I've only been able to meet them online and because I haven’t seen the campus in person I keep panicking and second guessing 😂but bgu is my firm choice and I’m so excited to be able to have a proper look around😊
I’m sure it’ll be worth it when you’re there and experiencing it all in real life! Lincoln is a lovelyyy city and you’re a great distance away from everything - hope you love it as much as I do 💖
@@connietaylor6602 No no, am just asking whether the eligibility criteria is a high school degree or can a GPA in bachelor's degree will work out or not if u have one?
