BEAUTIFUL WILHELM KEMPFF ...one of the best Beethoven Interpreters all over the world!

Kempff is active listening to the orchestra at each moment and he is one of the musicians who communicates with them instead of maintain or dominate everything. That's how it should sound! Great job!

Prof. Kempff's live recordings are very rare. Thank you for uploading ! Great love and respect to Prof. Kempff ! He was / is respected here in Japan very much. He visited Japan altogether ten times, including the one before the war. I would be happy if you could upload other live recordings by Prof. Kempff.

For me no one interprets Beethoven like Kempff does. I think he excelled with the romantics in general (Schumann, Schubert, Chopin etc ) , but he seems to have some particular gift for interpreting Beethoven. Thank you for posting this.

Definitely!!! He does!!!! It's Beethoven not Chopin not Schumannn ...maybe a little bit of Brahms...lol but it is Brahms' fault...lol......

Undoubtedly. One feels how infinitely dear Beethoven is to him, and how generously he shares his treasure with us. And the performance is absolute perfection.

Perfect ‘interpretation ‘ for Beethoven’s music. Today’s pianists have too much tone from Chopin.

As I get older Kempff's recordings mean more . Wonderful to see him on Italian t.v. in one of his own cadenzas . There must be some French and German broadcasts also ? The piano is far from orchestra one never realizes till they are on a stage .

I feel the exact same way. The older I get, the greater Kempff gets. By now - I'm 61 - I have him at the top for Beethoven and Schubert, and perhaps even more generally.

Remarkable that there was a video footage of his Beethoven concerto. He has performed all 5 many times, but I have only heard the audio versions. And it is the first time I hear his own cadenza on a Beethoven concerto via a video version. By the way, it is interesting that he doesn't play the last broken octaves of the finale in the way Beethoven writes. He plays the non-broken ones just by separating the hands. I know his techniques weren't as brilliant as Lang Lang, Pollini, or Zimerman, at least in his late years, and broken octaves are not easy, of course. But it is still puzzling to me he chose not to play it here. It is not the technique he couldn't have done, IMO, especially if he played all 32 Beethoven sonatas many times and we do see broken octaves in the first movement of the third sonata.

Unorthodox, but it's the same notes. He probably just decided the passage sounded better if he played it this way, having in mind the idea that a pianist should always focus on the sound.

mooriable should mind his own business and not that of kempff,comparing lang lang in the same breath as willi bares the limit of his musical level.lang lang,decent player but a posturing show off come liberace.
@MrInterestingthings
@MrInterestingthings Год назад
He is not a posturing show off. There's a lot you don't know . Film yourself playing an instrument and when you really use effort to get a sound or emotion or attack,etc. you too will find facial expressions. The point is Lang Lang can say anything humanly possible musically . Kempff, Schnabel many oldtimers have qualities but they are not equipped or trained nor know the machine as well as today's virtuoso. If you weren't stuck in some old fogey world you'd know many schools now require students to study building a pianoknowing the weights of the three different regicters,pedals and so many things old playes rarely knew. Josef Hofmann knew a lot and actually had patents on his invention. You non-musicians need to remain QUIET!
@leestamm3187
@leestamm3187 Год назад
@@MrInterestingthingsTo "know the machine" does not automatically endow a pianist with talent or artistic depth of expression. You may not hold the old school pianists in high esteem, but many of us old fogies prefer their efforts to some of today's technically virtuosic but interpretively barren players.
