Well done, Bob. I’m never that lucky at thrift stores hahaha.

I think it depends on the area of where the thrift shop is.

I can’t wait to find treasures like these one day, bob! I just can’t wait.

The single biggest key is stopping in lots and lots of stores. Remember, not every pair I buy fits me, a lot of these “treasures“ wind up being passed on to somebody else.

@@CobblerBobain't that the truth! Plus repeated vistits if I must. I visited this goodwill in Vegas two days ago found nothing, I decided to stop again yesterday and found TWO pairs of Johnson and Murphy size 10 (my size) in Shell cordovan made in USA, sole looks perfect as well as the uppers; my wife looked at me like I was crazy for how happy I was😃

The color looks like cordovan, the deep purple shining through the dark brown, another great vid!

Nice. I see at the end of the video...you show a picture, of a black, burgundy, and tan pair of Sanfords. Nice...all three shades. A Sanford...appears to me...to basically be...a "Strand", in Derby mode. Nice find...nice job.

Yes! Although I don’t wear them very often. I seem to gravitate to the Oxfords.

Man, you found these less than an hour for me. Never really found any decent dress shoes at my local thrift stores though.

You inspired me to attempt a rubber half sole on a new pair of Bally suede loafers. Definitively took longer than I thought to skive the leather to allow the rubber to sit flush, but learned a lot just from the 1st shoe and finished the 2nd shoe in half the time. I used a metal bowl to trace a curve on the sole and used calipers to transfer the same positioning to the other shoe, and masked up the whole shoe to transfer the shape to the rubber mat. Def not professional but pretty happy with the results! Thanks for guidance!

Robert you are for sure so fun to watch. You are a Pro in my book. I picked up the same shoes today at my local St. Vincent de Paul store. They are a gold mine for vintage Allen Edmond shoes and many other top makers. I payed $4.29 for this pair and would like to know if you know of a way to repair "Toe bridge Crease" I so wish I could send you a pic. Thank you for all the info you share.

Thank you! My apolgies for missing your comment!! Please feel free to email to robertpowers1972 at gmail dot com. I'm assuming you mean the creasing across the vamp? Note that even a proper fitting shoe will always have creasing there. You'll MINIMIZE it by religeously using proper fitting cedar shoe trees in the shoes every time you take them off. Also, don't wear them two days in a row. Give them at least one day to let the moisture evaporate out naturally and get back to shape. If you have the wrong size shoe (too long length, too wide width) you will also get significantly more creasing.

Just a question... I saw you used the DAP Weldwood contact cement glue but now You used Masters glue so which is better? Please answer
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 2 года назад
SORRY for missing your comment... I do believe the Masters is better. Also, it does seem to help if you heat up the parts with a heat gun or hair dryer on hot right before applying the parts. Follow the directions on the Master's can. It's available at a good price from www.panhandleleather.com or ebay.

Great find Bob! I have a pair of the Sanfords and they are quite comfortable. I do not see this model with the toe medallion often I don’t think? Do you think this is common on this model? Also, would the color be considered chile (sp ?)? Very beautifully and skillfully done my friend! You should do well with these. The leather is exceptional as note. Cheers!

Hello Al, I’ve always seen the Sanford with the medallion. I think this color is Merlot. The Chili is lighter and browner with less purple.

Hello Robert, I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot! Thank you. My question is off topic of your video. I'm a Florsheim guy but am beginning to shop Allen Edmonds shoes. Do you find their sizes run true with flourshiem? I know you have both brands. Thanks in advance.
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 3 года назад
I don’t know that I can make a blanket statement. I think there’s a difference between the vintage Florsheims sizing and their current ones. 1. I’ve never worn their current Gooodyear Welted imperial line. 2. Their Castellano line in 12D is every bit as wide as an Allen Edmonds 11.5 EE or 3E. They run wide. 3. I think the vintage Florsheim Imperials and Royal Imperials are more true to size. Check www.VCleat.com or the Facebook “Vintage Florsheim and other long lost Vintage Shoe” group.

I just got a pair of these in black at thrift store in pretty nice shape for $7. Cleaned up nice. I don't understand why you put that black thing on bottom of the shoe but looks nice otherwise
@CobblerBob

Nice! The rubber protective half soles are nice here in Northeast Ohio where it's wet a good portion of the year. They are more slip resistant, expecially in icy or snowy conditions, and when they wear out, you can change the rubber half sole out instead of resoling the shoe. You'll actually see me use them less and less as time progresses because as my shoe collection grows, durability of my shoes is less and less important. I know some people really hate them.

@@CobblerBob yeah i live in canada and leather soled shoes are hard to come by. But due to the snow in winter and rain in summer, its impractical as well. Winter they are outright unusable without the rubber sole covers.
@Acemans

would you recommend renomat over straight acetone? ive watched a bit of elegant oxford here on RU-vid and he seems to use Acetone more often than not.
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 3 года назад
Aceman, as a blanket statement, no I would not. There are certain situations where acetone is called for though. I’ve never had Renomat remove the factory finish or the actual shoe color. In this video I was only wanting to remove the black shoe polish, without removing the factory dye. Acetone is MUCH harsher. If I were trying to re-dye the shoes, and I wanted to remove the Merlot color to re-dye them another color, then yes, I would use acetone. Acetone is also going to have a negative effect on the life of the leather so I would only use it once on a shoe. It’s going to break down the fats and oils in the leather, so make sure and nourish the shoes after very well with something like Pure Polish Cleaner Conditioner, Ashland Leather Tanner’s Blend, or Saphir Renovateur. See my “Before & After: Color Change on KF&S Full Grain Oxfords” video, or my “How I Put a Patina on my Old Bostonian Loafers” video. I use acetone on both of those shoes.

Curious why you did the mirror shine prior to putting on the protective half soles. Wouldn't you risk marring the shine?
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 3 года назад
Only because when I was shining them, we still hadn't decided how the rubber half soles were going to be trimmed (curved convex vs concave vs straight). Yes, it would be better to do the mirror shine last, but thankfully it survived in tact, LOL.
