Fun fact, the Netherlands is called Hollandia in polish. The Dutch don't like to be referred as only Holland but that's literally the name for their WHOLE country

in russian and ukrainian we usually call netherlands "niderlandy", which is their official name, but it's not uncommon to hear "gollandia" (from "holland")

The Flemish call the Netherlands Holland. They literally speak Dutch. Although I must say, as a Dutch guy studying in Belgium, this is informal speech. Official, the Flemish call the Netherlands the Netherlands. But informally, everyone calls me a Hollander, even though they know the difference and know I'm not from Holland....

Balkan slavs use the same name for germany/germans as poles do(albeit with more/less letters depending on speaker). Hm, perhaps Spain should employ some authentic slav riot police(suitably armed and armored, serbs call theirs "ninja turtles" for it) as warning AND deterent to unruly tourists. Would be a much cheaper solution than banning brits altogether(possible side effects include: pendrek in kidney(instead of stone, crude translation sry), headaches, bruising, mild to heavy concussion, vertigo(last 2 if recipient has been particularly unruly) etc).

Other Countries/Languages have a lot of different Names for Germany. Beside the Slavic Niemcy there are Names derived from: Old High German Diutisc, as found in the german Name Deutschland, or dutch Duitsland or danish Tyskland Latin Germania, as found in English Germany or Italian Germania Alemanni, a germanic Tribe as in French Allemagne or Turkish Almanya Saxon, a germanic Tribe as in finnish Saksa or Estonian Saksamaa Bavaria as in Sorbian bawory from Prussia as in Limburgish Pruses or Tahitian Purutia

Cue my nationalistic Bulgarian *ss obligatory mention that Bulgaria had the largest army per capita and one of the most successful track records in WW1. We only lost at Dobro Pole right at the end, but even after the war the English lowered their flags in London in respect to General Vazoff when he visited (He won every engagement with a fraction of the casualties at Doiran).
