Jim thanks for taking the time to show how you do this. I have done quite a few oramask signs and my order of operations is different from yours. all prep is the same but my carving steps are different. 1: v carve outline first. this will make clean defined lines. 2: then remove oramask from the areas that will be carved with your different sized end mills. by removing the mask it won't ball up on the end mill. most importantly you can use up cut end mills! 3: then you can seal with sealer and paint. This my standard process for oramask and painting.

That is a good idea. I was trying to figure out a different order for the bits in the combined set of pocketing toolpaths, but I gave up when I couldn't figure out how to put a tolerance on one set of bits. But I think you are saying you just use a profile toolpath to clear the oramask on the edge, and then do a completely separate series of pocketing toolpaths inside with the end mils? That is a great idea I need to try. Thanks!

my goto settings I usually go to the vcarve toolpath select a 60 degree v bit and set a depth cut of .08 and then select clearance end mills 1/4,1/8 & 1/16 up cut. besure to remove the oramask where the end mills will be cutting. that way it won't be rapping around the end mills.

Great video Jim, I appreciate you taking the time to do these videos and showing us your process, and explaining things in-depth. You have been a tremendous help to the community. BTW I sometimes cut my wooden signs wearing flip flops because i am a modern good person.

Great video, as usual. Could you please tell me where I can buy those blue "side" clamps that I see on your table? I've tried searching and cannot find them.

These are the dogs I use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076MGP4F6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and these are those Kreg clamps: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0774WBGPX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you search around you can usually get them for under $20. They really don't wear out (other than me running them over with an end mill), and hold as good as any horizontal metal clamp I have tried. I still use a hold down clamp in conjuntion with these when I need the workpeice held down flat.

Dude, have enjoyed your videos up to now, but I don't want to have your political ideologies crammed down my throat. Take a long look at yourself and ask if what you're doing is really what the american founders or even modern good people would be doing. BTW, I do love and appreciate the final process. Your vids are informative and interesting for the most part. But c'mon, we can enjoy and help each other as Americans without pushing agendas. Hope all of you and yours are well.

I can assure you I was not trying to cram any ideologies down anyone's throat. As I mentioned in the video, the flag project file was literally the one that the person asking for help was trying to use. It also had some tricky machining elements to it, and it was free, so I didn't have to buy it. If it was the shirt that offends you, that was simply the first clean shirt on the rack I grabbed when doing the video intros I did that day. I honestly didn't think about it until I read your comment. I suppose that it seems that it was intentional since they are both on the same video, but you are assuming things that simply aren't true. Have a good day 🙂
