I was so freaking scared to pressure can that my new canner sat untouched for three years. I needed someone to walk my through step by step and you did that for me. You weren’t really in my kitchen but tonight you helped me pressure can my first thing ever, thank you! 💚
@tiffanie hutchins, I was just killing time at Wallyworld today, and walking down aisles, found ONE 16 qt Presto..and I scooped it up quick! The outside plastic wrap was still on. It's like they didn't even bother pulling it off knowing it wouldn't be on shelf for long lol. This is a hot commodity. I've been watching videos here on YT and how it's hard to find pressure canners, so I wasted no time. Now....I'm like, who is going to do this with me. I'm scurred LOL.
Same! I’ve had mine for about 4 years. I used it once but was scared I did everything wrong that I threw everything out! I didn’t want to kill myself or my family! I’m feeling brave again, but also still scared at the same time 😬
Here it is, 3 years after you posted this, and you are still helping novice canners gain confidence! Thank you so much for this extremely clear, thorough, and simple guide to the Presto canner. Your 'walking us through it in real time' guidance is just perfect for the first-timer. Thanks again!
I’ve watched several videos on pressure canning in an effort to become confident enough to actually try out my new 23 qt Presto. Of all those videos, this is by far the most clear and concise demonstration I’ve seen. Even the simple act of removing the knob from your stove to show the setting helped to make things more clear. Thank you! 🙂
I agree with you!!! I can't seem to get the pressure down to the 11 psi I need but now I know how to do that! Thank you SO much for this video. I am about to push the "subscribe" button! ; )
This is the best, easiest to follow, beginner instructional "How to run a canner" vid I have seen on YT. Love how you explain the controlled pressure up. And that you explained why it is so important. Well done sir.
@@TheMudbrooker You explained this much better, in my opinion, than another one I had just finished watching. (I was kinda lost on hers). I will watch yours again when I start. Thank you. :)
WOW ... Great tutorial. I just turned 76 and entering my mid-life crisis. I cannon afford a Corvette or a Harley so I bought a 23 qt Presto Pressure Canner. My maiden voyage with this lovely ship will be next weekend. After watching thins video, I think I can do it. I have gotten everything I need together, except patients. I have never been able to learn that skill.
Sir, I can't thank you enough for this video! Yesterday was my first experience with my new Presto 23 qt pressure canner and I really had no idea how long things actually took in real-time to get the canner up to pressure PROPERLY. I used to have a 16 qt and I always had a problem with keeping the dial where it should be for more than 1 minute. It caused me to give up canning until I decided to give it another try with a new 23 qt. While waiting for it to heat up I just happened upon your video and it helped me immensely. You walked me through the process of slowly letting the pressure climb and adjusting the heat properly. I never saw that before! By the time I was done canning my 7 quarts of Beef Stew yesterday with a minimum of fuss I was happy happy happy!!! My pressure never moved more than a 1/2 point the entire 90 minutes. And here is the best part - for the first time in my canning life - the water in my canner when I removed my jars was crystal clear. I nearly wept with joy! Thank you!!!
I have been canning for about 70 years on my own with a canner for about 60 and I will say you are the best I've seen on teaching an explanation of a pressure canner. 🙋🏼🙏✝️💕
All these women on here that post videos about pressure cooking steps can learn a thing or two from this guy. They don’t even show you what to do. He explains it and also shows you how to use it.
I am from Germany and just imported a new presto pressure canner for myself. We do not have such things for personal use in Germany so I had to get one from the US. I searched a while for the best intro video on one of these things and yours is simply the best one - thank you so much for your introduction and very detailed video with all your tips and tricks. Super helpful. Looking forward to get that thing going now ;)
@@jeanineadele I've been looking for a pressure scanner here in Germany for a long time. I finally found one on Amazon and recently got it delivered. (Thank you dear God for the internet) Why aren't these ingenious things here !? To put it politely: the Germans are a bit strange !!! Anyway. I have now found one and here also a great guide on how to operate the part.
Thanks man - I watch this and pause it.. and continue it along w/ my pressure canning to remind me what to do each time.. lol. I must have watched this a dozen times so far!
too funny!! i did exactly the same thing. Pressure canning chicken this weekend had the video going while i was doing it!!l He has great instructions. This is one of the best I have ever watched
This video is exactly what I needed! I have been a bit intimidated to start canning but I will this weekend with notes from your video. Thanks for sharing 💜
I remember my mom using a much smaller pressure cooker for cooking rather tough cuts of meat or wild game. I remembered some things about canning, but this was so educational and there were so many things that I didn’t know! I’m very thankful that I watch this video before I tried to do the canning because I would’ve made one big mess.
Thank you so much! I've been horrified of a pressure cooker my whole life. My mom wouldn't allow me in the kitchen while she was canning. My son began canning last year and so I had to jump in. Your video was so underwhelming! Simple...easy to follow and completely paralleled my experience. I love your voice and kept expecting you to say "we'll leave the lights on". Whoop! Whoop! First canning is cooling now. I am woman hear me roar!
Thank you so much for this. Grandma died before she could show me. Had a wonderful old neighbor lady teaching me with hers for a year and then the next year when I got my own we had to move so have been too scared to try it without someone there. You've really eased the anxiety and made it feel like I had an extra helping hand. God bless you for teaching other generations ❤
This is by far the best tutorial on how to use a pressure canner! Luckily this is the exact model I bought. Every question I had was answered. You sir, are awesome! Thank you. I'm feeling much more confident now.
I have watched probably a 100 canning videos over the last five years and none has ever given me the confidence I needed to can. You are a wonderful teacher, thank you for making this video. N.ow it is time to get those canners out of the basement storage.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, this is my first time canning and with your help, I now can preserve my Wild caught Alaskan Salmon. I followed your guidance step by step on my glass top stove and the results were perfect. Thank you
Every time I can, not often, I watch this video. The first two times, I wrote down my stove settings and approx. Time to get there. The key is no big fluctuations, to prevent syphoning. This is the BEST video.
This guide is awesome. I have never pressure canned before today & with your help I have success. The pressure went up gradually and once it was at 11 it stayed there the entire time, I did regulate the heat just a little. I had this video on pause & referred to it every few minutes. It was like I had an experienced canner helping me.
This is an AMAZING video, thank you SO much you have no idea. Using a PC for the first few times is indeed a bit scary and this video gave me the confidence to know what I was doing.
This is the absolute best tutorial for canning. Because of this video I was able to start canning immediately. I bought my Presto Pressure Canner 2 weeks ago and started canning my chili and vegetable broth the next day. I wrote down your method. Thank you so much!!! Blessings ✨
Such a great video. Every other video on RU-vid is so confusing. You made it so simple and easy, thank you very much sir! Also I went to Culinary school recently and nobody explained it as good as you did.
I had a bit of symphony get as well. Crushed tomatoes. I did ok on bringing and keeping pressure, but it was about 11.5 lbs pressure instead of the recommended 11. I think next ime I'll be more familiar with where to set my burner temp.
@@Noahsoak For crushed tomatoes, I was told to water bath can them instead of pressure canning. Very easy process! You'll need to add lemon juice because all tomatoes don't have the same acid level, but it's a simple process.
Thank for this demonstration. I did two dry runs, that is water in the canner but no jars to familiarize myself with its operation. Super clear explanation!
This guy is the best teacher ever,I got my new presto 2 years ago ,ive never canned before I was so scared ,I read the direction ,watched videos, but then I came across this guy,and I've been going ever since.i still come back to this video when I get the canner out just to make sure I'm doing it right, last time I used my canner I got in a bit of a hurry taking the lid off, well the steam burnt my index finger very bad,2nd degree burn so yeah let your canner cool completely and wear oven mitts, safety always
Really appreciate this. Great job explaining from the perspective of someone who has never used a pressure cooker while imparting your experience without confusing us with too much information. Thank you!
Oh my goodness yes I am nervous as a cat on hot tin roof! Ha, loved when you said I would probably be nervous for the first time trying out my canner. That actually made me feel better. Your voice is very calming and you explained everything to the T!
I have watched, no joke, 5 videos about pressure canning, and they all left me with questions. This is the first video that leaves no rock unturned. Thank you so much for making this. I feel comfortable giving pressure canning a try now.
May I add to the comments of praise. Thank you thank you for posting this video. It was clear and easy to understand and completely demystified my first pressure canning run.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Nice job. I canned 3.5 years ago with this canner and I've finally run out of the chicken I canned. Forgot the exact process and this video is a great refresher, covering all the important safety points. Much appreciated, from Australia.
I had no instruction manual for my grandma's Maid of Honor 16qt cooker. I found this video and he is so thorough and has such a reassuring voice that is was able to get through my first time. Thank you so much!
THANK YOU! You have answered so many of my questions about adjusting the dial on my stove and how the pressure will be at 11, then it goes to 13 and the reason why. It explains so much and will be very helpful to me. I appreciate this video and the way you've explained how long it can take to get where you need to be and that more jars means more time. SO HELPFUL!! Enjoy your day! Catherine
It has been awhile since I’ve used my pressure cooker. Although I have the book I found your video to be so much more valuable! Thank you for the detailed information step by step. This was assuring! You thoroughly answered all my questions, removed my doubts, and gave me the confidence to do this! Following your method I had no fluctuations with the pressure. Thank you!!
My mother pressure canned various foods including chicken legs, thighs with carrot, onion & potato. I truly and so badly want to learn this and I’m already freaking out before even purchasing one. This so far has given me the best knowledge & advice that beginners make. I’ll be sure to follow you for more tips. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you. These are the best instructions I've seen. I received my 23 qt Presto a few days ago and have trying to get up the nerve to use it. Using your instructions, I think i can do this.
Excellent instructions with no unnecessary chatter..I am new to canning and I live in Australia where very few people do any pressure canning so I have no one to learn from except for RU-vid. Your video has been the best that I have seen to learn, for using my new Presto 23. Thank you 😊
Long time, experienced canner here and I must say that this video answered a couple questions I've had for years that I've never been able to get a reliable answer to. Thankyou!
You sir, are a life saver! I am so glad I took the time to watch all of this! That advice on how to bring pressure up was golden! I have the same presto (and oddly by the way, the same exact counter tops! lol) and all I have done with it is water bath. I've been holding off pressure canning because I'm scared. I've yet to do it ever in my life. Today I was gifted a bunch of produce and now I actually have to pressure can to preserve all this. I am grateful that you took the time to explain this process. You are right the directions are silent on some of these tips. God bless you!
Thank you! I used this method this evening for two canning sessions and it works wonderfully! Every newbee should watch this tutorial. Brining the canner to pressure is what I was missing. A rather important step. God bless and you saved me! Otherwise, I was stressed about the fluctuations. Phew! Processed Italian Chili tonight.
how long did you wait to start the second batch so far I have an hour difference from my water bath canning i started both at the same time and will build up cook and now cool down my wb maybe the winner here
@@maryhollinshead9790 Hello, about 45 minutes in between. Rinse out the canner and cool it down to get a fresh start. It really is all about taking the tortious approach and bring up the pressure slowly. Letting it cool slowly is good too. At least 10 minutes once you remove the weight, crack the lid a bit, and then just lift it a little bit. That gives it another good 30 minutes. Just bring them back to the room better. Fairly successful. I think there’s only been one that didn’t seal properly and I’ve been canning a solid amount of jars since July. When you’re chasing fluctuations in pressure it is exhausting and definitely causes problems, like siphoning. Good luck! I feel like I’ve been doing this for years! I have not water bath canned yet. I’m not a big jam or fruit person I can buy that stuff easily. I’m more of a protein and meal processing person. Just did three types of soups over the weekend!
Hands down absolute BEST video on pressure canning!! Ive had mine sitting for weeks watching hours of "beginner" videos and finally came across your video. Im literally finishing up my very first time pressure canning after coming across your video a couple hours ago and everything went EXACTLY as you stated. No fear, no worries and spot on fail proof instructions!
You are a very gifted man to make anyone at ease!!! I'm 60 and finally pressure canning. You've made this such a pleasurable experience with your gifted personality! I'm excited to get my 3 grandsons to carry this " tradition on. I borrowed my father in law's 40 year old pressure canner. I belive i just inherited it...thanks to you. Praise the Lord Jesus! Thanks! Fish Fisher/ Fish's Antler Art Bozeman Montana
Excellent video!!!! I'm a rookie, searching for my first pressure canner and trying to learn all I can. Can't afford the American, but now know more about what to look for. You've given us a lot of valuable information ... thank you!!!
Thank you! I was so confused when I was waiting 15 min to put my weight on and nothing was happening. I really appreciate you taking your time to show what exactly to do step by step 👍🏽
Thank you very much i can say thats hands down the best no BS Tutorial video on canning i have ever seen you covered every little detail thank you Mr Mud
Your calm clear explanation was so helpful! I’m staring at my pressure gauge as we speak watching closely as this is my first time ever using a pressure canner. I took your advice to adjust the temps slowly and I’m maintaining good constant pressure. Thank you so much for this video!!
This was very helpful, thank you. I bought my Presto canner like a year ago and was too chicken to use it. Then comes today and these weird times we're in and I have a ton of beans that I hate presoaking and how long they take to cook. Oh I know! I'll can them. Go get my canner and ..... now where is that manual? Thank you, Thank you, you explained it very well and clear. Probably more understandable than the manual..... that I don't have. LOL
Thankful for your video, 20 minutes of waiting for my gauge to move thought I had a faulty canner. I didn't realize I didn't have the lid on correctly.
Thank you for such a great video. I was getting apprehensive after reading the owner’s manual but you demystified it for me and now I’m excited to give it a shot!
I just purchased a Presto pressure canner and found your video and it has reassured me that l can use it. The way you have explained step by step on how to use the canner was so informative and educating. When l go to use my canner l will be watching your video at the same time. Thank you for sharing.
Sir, I'm so glad i found your instructional. I went and purchased this pressure cooker. Honestly I was a lil intimidated running it for the first time but with your detailed instructions from start to finish, I was able to run it the first day I got it without worry. Feeling real good. Thank you sir and cheers.
Well Mr Mudbrooker - thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Your explanations on siphoning and taking the temp up slowly is fantastic. Given me some confidence to carry on for sure!
Thank you very much for this video. I wanted to get into pressure canning and this video is going to be very helpful. * * UPDATE * * I followed all the steps and it worked brilliantly. I got to 11psi and stayed there and never had to move the stove dial to adjust. Canned 6 quarts of chicken broth and had no syphoning and all sealed. Thanks again for the video.
Thank you so taking the time to create this tutorial. Today was the 1st time I ever canned using my new 23 quart Presto Pressure cooker. Your information is the clearest I’ve come across, precise and it equipped me to know what to expect when using this canner for the 1st few times.
This is a wonderful video!!!!!!! We have watched it several times! THANK YOU!!!! We especially liked how you compared the Presto and the American functions. We enjoyed you! Thanks again! P.S....this is our VERY first canning experience!
Thank you Sir! I’m new to canning and this video has been by far the best one. Easy to understand and follow. I’m still nervous but I think I can do it. 😊
This was the most thorough explanation I found to use my new 23 Quart Presto Canner. I used this info to safely can 7 quarts of Italian sausage soup with kale and beans without incident.I really appreciate this upload. Thanks!
I know this was 3 years ago, and I have had my canner in the box, UNOPENED and I have watched multiple videos, but for some reason THIS video and YOUR explanation made sense to me. I think this is the year I open my box.
Definitely the best video I've seen. This helped so much, and everything you said worked for us though we had to turn out stove down to 1 finally on our electric stove. Thank you so much for this video from a first time pressure canner. :)
That was a _fantastic_ video! I've watched a lot of how-to videos, on all sorts of topics, and that was probably the best one I've ever seen. You were detailed and precise, thorough and specific ~ you quite simply left me with no questions to ask; but you stayed on-point through the whole thing, and didn't go on with a bunch of irrelevant bullshit. Thank you. And incredibly well done! PS: G'day from Australia.
I just happened to come across your channel and it's what I was looking for in my new Presto canner and how to run it more accurately through the temperature control on the stove. Thank you
I just bought one of these pressure cookers the other day, never done this in my life. But I want to learn, plus I have a garden this year and need to learn! Thank u for the video!
I know this is an older video but thank you for such a detailed video!! This was my first time ever using a pressure canner & I certainly needed a video like this one, basically holding my hand!! I made chicken soup & everything turned out perfect! Thank you!!!
You’re a great teacher! I’ve seen plenty of videos and this is by far the best one and most thorough. Thank you for taking the time for others to learn and fully understand.
Thank you for explaining this clearly and step by step. I'm new to this pressure canning. Now I think I can get my pressure canner out and get canning. It has sat in a box for 3 years. Thank you again !!
One of the best videos I’ve seen. Very thorough. I appreciate the extra explanations about the device and the process. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Hands down the one of my favorite channels on RU-vid! Your "The Company You Keep" series was so amazing and hilarious! I'm subscribing with notifications!
Great tutorial!!! Very informative and easy to follow. I just bought a Presto 16qt and wanted to watch tutorial videos to shorten the learning curve......this was awesome and very helpful. Thank you!!!
Thank you. Especially for the advice on purchasing weights. I've listened to lots of videos and no one has explained everything well enough for it to make sense or, at least enough sense, to allow me to feel right about what to do, when to do it and why.
