The flat top queen rocks. I think ft king wouldn’t be where he is without her support. I think she always asks really good questions when Neil is cooking. I love her. ❤
Thanks Kelly! Neal makes it look so easy when he's in front of the camera... then there's me, the trainwreck. 😂 People always ask us how much footage we have to film for a 10-12 minute video, and honestly, it's only about 15 minutes or so... I think because Neal has such a good base of culinary knowledge and experience to pull from, he can speak and teach very easily when he's in front of the camera... so for him the filming part is a piece of cake. For me, not so much!
@@TheFlatTopKing I’m guessing you do lion’s share of editing? We all have our strengths. Working together as a team is what it’s all about. That comes through loud and clear…. it’s foundation comes from decades of mutual respect. That genuiness can NOT be faked, although folks try.
Amy, never sell yourself short! Except for that small explosion in the beginning, you rocked that! Congratulations on hitting that 50K! Experience is your best teacher! Nicely done! Cheers y’all!
It was great to see a beginner do it. I've learned so much from your videos so far. I've attempted to make smash burgers twice on my grill and recently learned that I didn't do a few things correctly. Hats off to Amy for putting herself out there. Nice work. Mad respect ✌🏻
Thanks Vance...its amazing how for new people they can relate when seeing it ...that is typically the whole goal...try to put ourselves in your shoes and find a fix
As a safety professional, I was watching as she was turning on the knobs and I was like LIGHT IT!! I am glad you all left that in there and then explained the situation afterwards. It’s an innocent mistake that happens all too often. A great learning experience that really could be its own short video in itself.i hope you do do that.
I love that she admits that she doesn't cook. My wife does not cook, when she has to she usually heats up something I have canned like spaghetti, chili, etc. My wife loves Native American culture so I gave her an Indian name, it is "She who doesn't cook".
Great video - fan of Amy as she is so sincere and funny. And she did great on the griddle. Between this and the Mistakes video I am able to correct all the things I was doing wrong and my burgers are getting better. Had some friends over recently and they concluded: GREAT!! They said I am like a Seinfeld episode with the soup guy... " You suffer for your Smashburgers. Yes. That is right." And you guys do too.
My first flattop (Blackstone) will be here Tuesday this week. I bought the “need to haves” and subscribed to your RU-vid channel and joined the Facebook page. I’m watching as much as I can to learn the correct way and hopefully make fewer mistakes. I can’t wait just to season it. I honestly think it’s gunna be more fun and easier than cooking inside on pots and pans. Mess easier to clean (as you go) and hopefully it will make things easier on my amazing wife. I’ll be doing majority of cooking but I can see her wanting to learn. You 2 are a great team, keep it up and thank you for your content. It’s taught me so much and I feel prepared to jump in
I make all the meals for my family of 4, but was starting to get complaints about my burgers, which is like the easiest meal I make. Now my smashburgers are getting rave reviews and honestly my last one was probably the best burger I ever ate! Thank you so much!
Thank you SO much. Much appreciated first attempt and I watched all of your videos. Yours, for beginners and also the mistakes. I think they turned out amazing and all your tips and experience really helped.
I love all the laughing and the banter with each other! Thanks for the video and the good laughs. P.s. I felt the gas blow out on a different level, I did that one time my igniter stopped working and I was trying to light the grill with a match … I lost half of my lashes 😂😂😂
I made smash burgers for the first time yesterday and it does take practice. She’s doing it for the first time and she did 4 patties at once. I think she did great.
Awesome job Amy 😉👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼! You did well for a 2nd timer. Please continue to feel brave enough to jump back on the griddle, would love to see part 3. Neal, my Brotha… i thought it was CURTAINS for ya 💥😳😵💫🙆🏻♂️!! 🤣, i had my wife do the same to me years ago on a propane bbq grill! Anywho Awesome episode Y’all. And you gotta run that idea of making that burger “Neals Way”! Would 💜 to see your twist on it. My 2pennys, Cheers guys.. hope you are enjoying your Labor Day. 🍻Cheers Y’all 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Yes, I definitely want Neal to make that burger... Honestly, his food is SO dang good, and there was absolutely no comparison between my burger and his burger... He actually made us two smash burgers right after we got done filming this, and he made them start to finish in about 90 seconds to 2 minutes... and it took me about 25 minutes. Hahaha! :)
@@TheFlatTopKing lol, but he’s a true Master/Mad Scientist on the flattop! & Forgive me 4 being rude and not addressing you 1st… Thank you Amy for the reply 💜! I agree, “Neal’s Kung Fu” on the griddle is Super quick. 🫡 lol. Hope y’all run that idea back. Cheers 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
You being a newbie is a great teaching opportunity for us. When you’ve been doing it for a while you make it look easy and then when we try we’re wondering what we did wrong. I appreciate this.
Good job Amy! For someone that only "cooks" salad, you did great! My favorite smashburger (or 8 oz. "blackened" burger) is seasoned w/ Sea Salt, Pepper, Garlic & Worchestershire Sauce, topped with carmelized grilled onions and bleu cheese crumble with a slice of gouda to hold it all in place with a little mayo and ketchup. Also, bleu cheese dressing is delicious w/ a steak.
Ok Amy you’re a hit we/me would like to see more videos of you as a beginner griddle cook. It gives the videos more authenticity of a truly beginner cook. CONGRATULATIONS on the 50K I’m now a subscriber
Congratulations on your 50K.I wish Neil would let you (Amy) cook more. Like you (Amy) said, Neil makes it looks so easy to cook on a Griddle. I know when I get mine I'll burn the first smash burgers that I will do. Hopefully I don't. But I'll try not to. Congratulations again on your 50K.
This is what keeps me coming back to you guys videos FAMILY!!! and your not hogging the griddle your teaching real time stuff !! I literally watch and comment on hundreds of videos every day I commend the flat top family for the videos you all put out !! This is AWSOME!! There’s nothing more IMPORTANT than FAMILY COHESIVENESS 👍🏾✌🏾🙏🏾
Amy is doing well, and I hope you smother her with positivity and what she does RIGHT. With time she will learn to be better with cooking. It's just something she's not used to doing. But she's a smart woman, and that cannot be taught. Go, Amy!!
That's great info for newbies and gas cooking appliances. Many accidents happen from that as well on gas grills with the lid closed during start up. Something I like to do is press and hold the igniter before turning the burners on to help prevent that. I'm new to your channel and it's full of great info. Thank you.
Classic! My wife and I are both Navy retirees ('98, '00) and we just retired permanently and a Blackstone was one of many retired gifts for us. Learning a lot from you (I feel better about my first smash burgers as they seemed to stick to the griddle, but now I know that it's normal, haha -- they were still great). Keep up the great content!
God bless her! I can relate with her because I to am new to cooking. I love cooking on my flat top and I’m learning. I recently found your channel and they really help. My son lives beside us and we love cooking together.
One last thing I forgot. I do not have to dig to get crust off. The very first ones I did amd they looked better. Now they just come right up and darker. Again appreciate the help and looking forward to the shake that smash that and que that seasoning I ordered
Thank you! I purchased my black stone 36” original griddle after binge watching your channel. I’m hooked! I also ordered everything in your must have list! I’m stoked to receive it. ❤
We have all done the delayed light and got the shock lighting, it was great you and Neal and went back and covered it as it is very common. Neal she is much better looking in front of the camera. This is great!! A true realistic first try and the quick time is sooo true of all new griddlers and some of us still, well done,
@@TheFlatTopKing BTW, tried the EMU in meat fajitas, they were outstanding in flavor and taste. Tasted just like a great steak. Also found a local meat processor that is stocking EMU so my bride can enjoy. Now if they just had some kinda bacon from that big chicken.
I love watching your channel. I've had my Big green egg since my first fathers day and now 25 years later (still love it!) I got a Weber Slate 36" and am having fun with it too! I tried your hibachi shrimp and it was amazing.(other than I tripped on a rock and spilt half of it). These are on the menu for tonight!
Another great video for the novices out there. I showed my son (who's 18) how to light the griddle and my advice to him was put your thumb on the ignitor first and then turn the burner to light at the same time. The other suggestion to him was getting in a place where you can see the burner ignite (or that it doesn't). If you've been around griddles or grills for years you'd often take things like this for granted - it makes us humble when we try to explain everything to someone who's never done these things before - I joke with my son that he's attending "man school" and it chokes me up a bit when I realize all the things my father taught me as a young man and think about the things I had to learn on my own after he had passed.
Amy, you did a fantastic job! I remember my first smashburger, it felt like a race against time and I almost panicked forgetting about the cheese because I wanted those patties off the grill! LOL Happy 50K to you both and many more to come. Your videos are educational, personable, and fun to watch!
She is absolutely correct. I’ve been cooking for 45 years in a restaurant and home and when you cook on the flattop you better have all your prep work done and everything out that you need because cooking on the flattop races past you so fast and you can cook for 5 people in 10 minutes not including your prep. I think she did a wonderful job and the burgers look great and I love that oowey gooey melted cheese.
No offense Neal, but this is one of my favorite videos. Amy shows how crazy it can be when things get moving so fast....easy to forget things. Great job Amy, looks like at the end it all turned out pretty good. You guys keep up the good work.
Excellent work Amy! I happen to love goat cheese, so I'm all on board for this burger! I think the best part of this video is how perfectly Amy pronounces "Worcestershire"😂
Haha! I didn't even notice how I pronounced it, but I'm going to have to go back and watch... and heck yes to the goat cheese - I put it on everything... eggs, steak, salads, pizza!
Your wife was awesome. She should cook with you more. I actually learned a lot watching her make the smash burgers. I definitely want to try the goat cheese, smash burgers. Great job as always guys keep up the grade videos you guys are awesome.
I was telling my son "He needs to incorporate his wife in his videos" My son said that you have. So here it is I get to watch a video (been taking care of the wife due to hip replacement surgery). The first thing I noticed was over 50,000 followers and growing. Totally Awesome! Then there it is with this Smash Burger Video. I loved everything about this video in it being truly real, with nothing left out. Now I too when it came to the cheese on the grill was like "Girl clean that grill". Other than that she did an awesome job. I loved how she wanted to do her own burger, and I loved how ya'll left the little mess ups in the video. Really appreciated the beginning about the propane and what can happen. (Great Job explaining that) The other three things I took away from this video was her realizing how it's different than holding the camera. You helping her along while holding the camera. I might add I see her doing that for you sometimes when she is holding the camera. The last thing was you wanting to pursue that goat cheese smash burger to your tasting and style. Looking forward to maybe a "Three versions of a Smash Burger Video" Well it was different, but so much fun to watch. Ya'll do more of these as she did a great job. Stay who ya'll are and this channel will continue to grow. I cannot wait for the 100,000 followers cake. Just wondering what flavor that one will be. lol.
I really appreciate you taking time out to comment this..I deeply appreciate it. As far as the cake if she has anything to do with it Im sure its going to be a 3 tiered wedding flavored giant cake....aahahaha just order the biggest one..
You have the sweetest wife possible. Always smiling and with kind words on every video. I wish she could be cloned, many times over. Even if she doesn’t cook.
This was a blast. My wife cooks and bake's. When I became disabled a year ago. Trust me though I can cook. But that was sooooo entertaining. Oh the wife turn's the big 50 IN 4 DAYS ,,,LOVE THE CAKE. You kids keep up the good work. Oh Amy , if you've never been flashed,,,,,,,, you just did. That's what that is called when you light a grill that way. We've all done it at least once.🤣🤣🤣
@@TheFlatTopKing Just bought a Blackstone 22. Seasoned in four cycles of oil let it burn off etc, took over an hour. First cook bacon and all pieces stuck. Don’t believe it was to hot. I then cooked onions and rib-eyes with no problem. Just wondering your opinion on the bacon sticking. I did not put oil on for the bacon cause I didn’t think I had to .
Amy did good! At least she tried! I will surely have to try one with goat cheese after seeing this. I'm the grill cook in our family. My husband does pretty good, but I'm excited to try a smash burger! I saw your smash burger mistake video first. That was great information. Although I didn't know there was so much to making a smash burger! 😊
Hey you would be amazed...literally just answered a question about not getting the crust on a burger...different video but i wish I could screenshot it...people are all over the place in there culinary journey...Thanks for the support
My wife cooks A LOT.....indoors on a stove top. She would be the same way on the Blackstone outside so don't worry Amy, the griddle outdoors is a different beast.
So I am a little late to the game as my wife just bought me my first Blackstone griddle for our new camper. Completely new to cooking as it appears Amy is, AND new to the griddle world. I work third shift and have watched about 20 hours of your videos in the past 3 shifts. I picked this one to comment on as Amy thanked us for watching and supporting you all, Thank YOU guys for an awesome channel that I will use to grow with. Im a golfer, not a good one but I golf. The rule of thumb for you tube student golfers is pick one video coach you like to listen to, not multiple as that may confuse a person. To that I say, I am ready to learn Coach. With that, im going to hunt for a video that gives your secret magical steak seasoning! Take care
ahhaaahha so thats a long story....but as of now no...we only developed 2 with 2 more in mind as we see the initial results....still a secret...for sure
Just got my 28” Blackstone seasoned and for my first cook I did beef fajitas. Everything happened faster than I expected. Fortunately, from watching your videos, I had my ingredients prepped and ready and was somewhat expecting the transitions. Going to try the smash burgers next and then maybe a weekend breakfast. You two make a great team and you two are my instructors on my flat top griddle. Very entertaining and informative.
Late to the party but this video was awesome and real!! She’s a keeper Neil. Always wondered who was the voice behind the camera. Add one more subscriber 👍🏼👍🏼
