Great video Michael. A mate has just got his first 3d printer and this explains the basics very simply (saves me a heap of dodgy unqualified explanation). The calibration page is a game changer having everything in one wiki with the videos linked 🤯... It's as if you're a trained educator 😉
@FranklyPeetoons

Great refresher. It would be nice to see you explain the program/plugin Arc Welder a little better than some of the smaller RU-vid channels have done. I'm sure you know about it. It instructs the printer to make normally linear linear movements as arcs, which can shrink GCode and result in slightly smoother prints. Your presentations often make clear what others muddle a bit.

I've switched to Super Slicer. It's calibration section is outstanding. I started with, and up until yesterday, used Cura. Michael's filmed a lot of videos on such subjects. Look at the link to his website in this video description about retraction. Once on Michael's website look at the top of the page to see all the calibration help available. The various pages have links to Michael's RU-vid videos as well as text setting out what you need to do and why. It is an excellent resource.

Hi, could you continue this with some advanced features, I am having trouble with prints that have very thin parts that stick up. I tried the minimum print time and speed, but they all slowed the prints down and it made things a stringy mess. I found it worked a lot better if they printed this parts faster, but I was having trouble isolating these sections. minimum time or speed did not make any changes and it was only outer perimeter speed that worked. I could also see the thin tubes looked a lot better while other parts are printed and then as soon as it's just the tubes they start to mush like they need more time to cool. This is also like the parts on a benchy when it gets to just the window parts and prints can look rough, I am having much trouble with jessie beige 500 pla on ender printers it just grinds the filament at the same point. I think this is also related to minimum layer time. Thank you so much for all the calibration tools I always recommend to new users.

Can you make a guide on how to make hollow vs solid objects? For example if I want to create an easter egg with 0.5mm walls, or any other awkward shape where it's not as simple as creating a hole like maybe a toy alien blaster or something that has multiple different shapes and sizes that need hollowing out.

I also have and Ender 5 pro... got for Christmas. Started with the included slicer software as it was easy to use and I got good prints. Then as I printed more I tried Cura, it was OK (nearly the same as Ender SW). Then I found Prusa Slicer. It's got a LOT of options and is a really good piece of free software. It takes time to learn all this stuff and I like how Prusa has kind of a control with the lock and key with standard settings vs customized.
