The brightside of getting acne is that you put alot of effort into your diet, skincare and general lifestyle choices. As a guy i had never put any effort whatsoever into skincare so i am givin tretonoin another go with a bit more education rather than just the "use everyday" method from the dermotologist, this caused plenty of irritation. I'm hopeful after watching alot of video's that this medication atleast doesnt have the plethora of side effects that something like accutane includes. Wish me luck!!
It serves a purpose at times although diet and lifestyle is easily the main thing that helps me, i mostly eat a diet centred around pasture raised eggs, grass fed beef and wild caught salmon along with tree nuts and fruits. The key is to keep the glycemic index foods low and omega 3 to 6 ratio as even as possible. Remove dairy, refined carbs and sugars then you are getting somewhere. Yes tretonoin cream serves a purpose although it isnt the main thing that will get rid of acne. Get a decent anount of sun without getting burnt either. Im currently in the greek islands and i have had zero issues even though my diet hasnt been perfect and i have been drinking.
1.Gentle cleansing 2.keep skin care routine 3.Avoid applying tretinoin damp skin 4.Dont use tretinoin every night 2 times a week 5.Find good hydrating cream 6.Apply Sunscreen
@@SarahSaleen Hi Sarah! Greetings from India. I am a TV actress from Mumbai, India. Checked this whole video and found it really apt for all those who have begun using tretinoin for their acne and skin maintenance. I myself introduced tretinoin 0.025 for very mild acne on my face, from May this year with short contact therapy first gradually increasing the duration; and currently in 8th month of tretinoin. Using it every night (throughout ) since last 3 months. I use buffering with Cetaphil cream since I started keeping it overnight. • May I replace it with CeraVe moisturizing cream now? And apply tretinoin over it? My acne issue has gone, just get 2 or 3 very tiny whiteheads thrice a month and go away. Hence, would like to discontinue Tretinoin by Feb'22. •Please advice how to go about with discontinuity? Thanks :)
I have looked at multiple videos for info and this is the most descriptive by far! I also appreciate that you put time stamps for viewers to go directly to the info they need. So thank you for this - I’m very happy to discover your channel! Do you recommend using tretinoin on the neck area, and is it ok to use a tiny amount around the eyes? Fine lines around the eyes are also a concern I’d like to treat long term with this… I’ll be starting tomorrow and sandwiching it between Cerave and Nivea cream (the German formula, which is different from the American one), and finishing it with a bit of rose hip seed oil.
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰 yes you can use a small amount on the neck and under the eyes too. You can buffer those areas with moisturizer first as well. I would start just once a week under the eyes and work your way up since the skin there is much thinner.
Excellent video! I've been using Tretinoin for yearrrrrrs and was looking for a video to show my son who is just starting to use it. This was spot on with everything I was telling him. Thank you!
I’ve been using differing 0.1% for 4 months and was just hating what it was doing to my skin. Recently I tried the sandwich method and decreased the amount of applications per week and it’s been a total game-changer. Still breaking out a bit but at least I’m starting to see more of the benefits of it. This video helped me clear a lot of questions I had in mind. Thank you!!
Should I use a hydrating sleeping mask on the same night when using the tretinion? Like over the moisturizer as you said? Or on diff night. I’m using tretinion twice a week, sandwich method. Using cerve cleaner and moisturizer. But still feeling a lil dry especially when I have makeup on..
This is really helpful for me because I was doing a few things wrong. I was prescribed trention in October 2022 and didn't start using it till December because I had so many thoughts of what it would do to my skin. I've been using it since December 4 and have been taking it slow, it's been a phew times I haven't even used it in a week but I do try to slow it down at times. I really appreciate this, can't wait to get my results. Thank you!😊
I have a weird question. Im starting school in September and its the end of june currently. I have heard tretinion will make skin look terrible for the first 2 to 4 months so should i start now or should i wait coz i dont wonna go to a new school with ugly face
Hi I do have a question there’s a RU-vid influencer saying we can’t use hyaluronic acid with Differin but I’m planning to get cereve moisturizing cream which has hyaluronic in it
I find usually that gentle cleansers don’t do anything for my acne prone oily skin. Do you have a good recommendation for me while using tretinoin? Also I heard using azelaic acid is really good in the morning when using tretinoin so like do you think it’s necessary?
Hey! Yes! You can use a salicylic acid cleanser in the mornings and your tret at night. My favorite is the la roche posay salicylic cleanser. If your acne is very stubborn you can try benzoyl peroxide wash in the mornings. It’s not for everyone since it can get pretty drying but depends on your skin. You can also use those treatment cleansers just as you need them. I’ve seen some people that have already built up a tolerance to tret can tolerate these types of cleansers in the same routine as their tret. But when you’re starting out it can be pretty drying in the same routine. The Naturium Niacinamide cleanser is a gentle cleanser but it actually has an active that will control oil production so it’s a little more than the typical gentle cleanser. I love Azelaic acid it helps with inflammation, congestion, hyperpigmentation, oil control.. I use it all the time when I’m not using my tret am or pm. It’s an acid that can have minimal irritation as well. I would give it a try! Start a couple times a week and work your way up. I’ve tried a few. If you’re looking for a straight forward over the counter option go with the Naturium ones. ❤️❤️
I thought I mentioned in the video that it was my least recommended option, but I knew that people still did it. But honestly I made this so long ago I don’t remember, and probably should have elaborated more on that one and why it’s my least favorite method. It can result in an uneven tret application and I recommend the sandwich method over it.
I just switched to Cetaphil Gentle Clear Clarifying Acne Cream Cleanser & Mattifying Acne Moisturizer. I have used it for 7 days and I do notice a new change in how soft my skin is while preventing future breakouts. However, it isn’t clearing my current acne spots. Can I still use these products while starting Tretinoin? Or should I switch to CeraVe?
This has been SO useful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us ❤ Can I use La roche posay lipikar gel lavant as a cleanser before using tretinoin? Next week I start my journey with 0.025 and that is the only cleanser that claims to be gentle and easy to get in my city. But I don't want to use something that may do more damage than good 😊
Do you have any knowledge on the Healing Pharma Tretiheal Tretinoin? I was using another brand tretinoin and it worked great, was even at a .05 and once in a while I would use the .1 in thar same brand but I received a .1 in this brand (Healing Pharma) and its so gentle I feel like it's not even effective.
I recently started watching your channel and liked the topics because they are the questions that I’m curious about. I am currently on benzol peroxide with adapalene for over 3 months now but haven’t noticed much of a difference. My derm switched me over to retin A-stieva and scared to go through a purging phase once again since I have active breakouts in my jaw and chin. I would like you thoughts other products I can use that are clean since I have sensitive skin while being on Retin A. Thank you 🙏🏼
Hii! Thank you for watching 🥰Personally for me as I got older and continued to deal with hormonal acne tret ended up being much more effective than adapalene. It’s also possible your skin may purge a lot less since you were on adapalene for those months… if the benzoyl peroxide is too drying for you, you could use a salicylic acid cleanser instead sometimes. I use the La roche posay one.. if instead of treatment cleansers you wanted to instead use a mild chemical exfoliant you could use the globiotics probiotic one. It comes in a blue bottle and it’s fine for sensitive acne prone skin. You could also try an azaliac acid serum a couple times a week when you’re not using tret.. but when you first start your tret keep it minimal you can even just use it 1-2 times a week at first to minimize the purge. But since hormonal acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations it’s tricky. Stress, our cycle, and processed/dairy foods can all aggravate it as well. Stick to only drinking water too if you’re not already. I don’t want to make this too long but looking into a high frequency wand can be helpful.. I’ll make a video about this for acne. I also have couple videos coming on my hormonal acne journey.. For me I did take a few supplements that helped in the beginning like probiotics, l- lycine, and b5.. but of course talk to your dr before taking anything like that. I hope that helps a little bit. Tret is the only thing that helped my cystic acne topically at least.. and I hope it does the same for you. Hormonal acne is such a deep topic I’m getting asked about a lot.. I need to do a deep dive on it on my channel soon… I know it can get stressful if you ever wanna talk about it more in here. ❤️
Thank you for your recommendations😊. If you could make those videos on hormonal acne that would be great. I forgot to mentioned I have dehydrated, sensitive acne prone skin. So tired of hormonal cystic acne in my chin and neck😕
Yess I’ll try and get some hormonal acne videos out! alternating between warm compress and ice can help with cysts throughout the day too. Also stick to spf with healing properties only like zinc and titanium dioxide if you’re not already. B5 can help with dehydrated skin too.. I know la roche posay has a b5+hy serum. You may really like the Paulas choice treatment I mentioned in the video too. It can help lock in moisture.
is this routine right for hormonal acne 33 years ade:in the morning 1.cleaan,vit c serum. moistriser and spf evening 2 times per week tretnoin and other nights azelaic acid
1)Should a person with clear skin use tretinoin to get glass skin? 2)Will they still get pimples after starting to use tretinoin if it was not there earlier? 3) I was using retinoid serum for around 4 years, now since 2 weeks I tried tretinoin cream 0.025% once a week using sandwich method, still my skin is flaking near forehead, mouthand nostril area. What needs to be done? Pls reply
You can still use it technically, it’s very gentle though so if you have oily skin you mayyy feel like it’s not doing enough.. you may prefer a gel based cleanser that lathers well if you’re oily like the Naturium niacinamide cleanser, face reality ultra gentle cleanser, dr idriss soft wash
@@SarahSaleenohhh I see. I’m currently using the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for normal to oily skin. I’ve been using that since forever 😅I feel it does a good job and at cleaning my skin and I always make sure to hydrate after with my rice water and moisturize with CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion.💖I was curious about the hydrating version because of your video and a commercial I saw :) thank you for feedback
Love your videos! You explain everything so clearly - thank you! Is it okay if I use l-ascorbic acid in the daytime still while starting tretnoin? Thank you so much! I hope you see this. 🖤
Hey sarah'❤ I used 0.25%tret at night with sandwich method 3x times a week and in morning i used to niacinamide and hyaluronic acid ,ceramides moisturizer with sunscreen. But nowadays my skin is over dry around mouth area please guide me completely skin care routine am n pm at tretinoin treatment. And can i use vaseline petroleum jelly before tretinoin? Note: I have lots of acne since 1 year. TYSM ❤
Hi Sarah, thanks for the detailed video. What’s the main benefit of using this product? And once one starts using it, how long should one continue using it for? Is this like a lifetime deal? lol. If you know what I mean. Thanks in advance! All the best, - A u r o r a ❤️❤️❤️
Hey! ❤️So Tretinoin can help with smoothing out texture, improving dark spots, improving signs of aging, stimulating collagen in the skin. It increases cell turnover so over time it can result in clear clean. Beautiful skin means on going maintenance so I would continue for as long as you want the results as with any skincare product, if that makes sense. Thank you for watching girlie 🥰
@@SarahSaleen Hi Sarah! Thanks for your prompt and detailed response!! 🙏😊 It makes complete sense. I appreciate your time and insights. Hugs from LA! - A u r o r a ♥️♥️♥️
@@SarahSaleen hi Sarah I have started using tretenoin 0.025 since a month twice a week to reduce pore size but go more open pores and larger ones than before thought it would go worse before it gets better but suddenly my hair is shedding like crazy doesn't had this much of hair loss..my hair is not thicker enough before so scared of baldness came to know it is one of the side effects of tretenoin what should I do now to minimize hair loss and how to use tretenoin
Hii dear my face turning into red when I'm going to contact with heat/sun and my cheeks are usually going more red... I'm completing 2 months of tretinoin on 4th Dec... Only using twice in a week... any suggestions for this redness because of I'm don't like it anymore and I not suffer any side effects rather than this only I'm wearing sunscreen on daily basis.. and other night I'm using vit c serum and at day time niacinamide serum...
Yes tret can cause this sensitivity to the sun, and can exasperate redness. this can continue for the first few months. If the spf you’re using is chemical I would switch to a mineral and make sure you’re reapplying every two hours ( most often wil have zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). Also try wearing a hat when you’re outside. You want to do whatever you can do avoid heat or direct sun exposure on your face. I’m sorry there’s no easier fix to it :/..
It’s been a month since my Dermat had advised me to apply tretinion gel for 15 mins and wash it off followed by moisturiser. Now I want to try applying all over my face twice a week. my skin still gets acne here and there and my concern is sandy textured skin. what do I do?
Hey! You can always follow up with your derm about increasing contact time before washing it off. Or moving up to 2x a week is a great place to start too. You could start at one night if you wanted and work your way up. You can always do the sandwich method to start out too. Tretinoin can definitely help with texture and acne over time.
Hi, can I use tretinoin n moisturizer in this order? 1.Cleanse 2.Pat dry n apply hyaluronic acid serum 3. Wait 30 min n apply tretinion 4. Wait 10 min n apply cerave PM moisturizer
Hello, new to your Chanel. If I follow these steps in the night, can I do my regular skin care routine without a problem? AM: 1.Cleanser 2.niacinamid 10%+zinc 1% 3. Hyalironic acid2%+b5 4. Sunscreen. I know you said use the cream 2-3 times a night, when I DONT USE IT CAN I USE IN THE NIGHT PM: 1.CLEANSER 2. Hyaluronic acid 3. Moisturizer?? Also, can I incorporate the GOODMOLECULES overnight exfoliate treatment? The ordinary glycolic acid 7% toning solution?? I have them and idk what shiuld I do. Thank you! My names melissa by the way, just using this RU-vid account❤️☺️
Hi Sarah, I use tretnoin compounded with4% niacinamide cream my dermatologist prescribed, to use every other day to treat my melasma . My question is the day I amd not using tretnoin can I use Paula"s choice clinical discoloration repair serum?.
If your skin is going though retinization I would wait for that to pass. But if your skin is comfortable with the tret then yes go for it! There is a retinoid alternative in the discoloration serum but it’s pretty gentle and shouldn’t cause further irritation in most skin types. However if you have sensitive skin you can incorporate it 2x a week to start, see how your skin does, and gradually increase 🦋
i have been using salicylic ointment for more than a year after completing Accutane course but unfortunately again started getting few pimples, if i switch to tretinoin will i purge again?
@@SarahSaleen second and third night I used this same products but caused lots of burning. Had to wash off immediately. Almost everything I apply to moisturize gives me burning 🔥 sensation. What can I do?
What’s the best thing for blackheads and if you have very sensitive skin can you use tretinion cream or it’s not recommended what’s the best thing for blackheads if you have very sensitive skin
Hii... I want to know if i can use tretenoin cream at night and Clindamycin+Nicotinamide gel in the morning routine... As i have active acne right now..
I feel like my skin is on fire, when i apply moisturizer and im doing sandwich method ie, mositrzr tretnoine moistrizr...i jst wnt to knw is burning sensation normal???
Should we wash it with Plain simple water of mild soap after applying of 20-30 minutes. Plzz answer I couldn't this find answer anywhere on the internet
Yes if you’re doing the short contact method, wash it off with very simple gentle cleanser, like a creamy cleanser. Choose one that typically doesn’t make your skin feel tight or dry.
@@SarahSaleen thx a lot mam. My Dermatologist said you apply it & leave it for 30 minutes. Then wash off. But still confused can I just wash it with simple water or mild face soap I use
Hey! Yes! First aid beauty has a great starters retinol. The retinol serum and cream from Naturium are good starters too. The ordinary granactive retinoid emulsion is a good beginners product for a retinol too. The ordinary also has their retinoids that are mixed with squalane which a lot of people love if you’re into treatment ingredients in oil forms
Hello nice listening to your tips I just started using tretinoin because of acne on my face and all of a sudden my face became dry and fleaky also peeling off Pls what do I do
Tret leads to growth of new skin, which can create more oil in the process. The excessive oiliness is usually temporary. Sometimes using oil free moisturizer in the mornings can help. Adding hydration with humectants can help too.
So 3 times in week like this Sunday Monday Tuesday ? Or random days? ( i am not that’s good at English it’s not my native language i Hope u understand what i mean)
Hi Sarah help me my first time using tretinoin .05% so after i do the cleansing am i going to put the moisturizer first then tretinoin is toner safe to use when im putting tretinoin? Pls reply me ty so much God Bless🙏♥️
I still exfoliate! Just gently with exfoliating cleansers usually. Or sometimes I’ll try masks with exfoliating ingredients. But tret actually doesn’t exfoliate. It pushes new skin cells to the surface but doesn’t work like an aha or bha, which actually cuts through the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. But exfoliating once accustomed to tret will be a personal decision depending on skin since some will need more exfoliation than others and for some just the act of cleansing is enough exfoliation. Hope that makes sense ❤️
Sometimes moisturizers can cause tingling on compromised skin barrier caused from tret, because the moisturizer is acidic (which is good for your skin but on a compromised barrier it can be a bit much. Many products can cause tingling if applied to a compromised barrier. You can try changing the moisturizer. Maybe la roshe posay double repair if you prefer drug store. When i experienced that I personally had luck with dr jart ceremdin cream, and illiyoon ceramide cream.
if you want zero irritation, use an ointment moisturiser at night i.e. vaseline, aquafor, anything labelled ointment means it does not contain water, which is the irritant. Read the ingredients list. You want petrolatum, and the only extras mineral oil and/or glycerin. You will find next morning you don't need another moisturiser.
im thinking of trying the youth to the people green tea+ spinach cleanser, would that be a good cleanser for this ? also my doctor prescribed me 0.1 before 0.05 and this will be my first time starting tretenoin, is it too strong? (i have clearn skin+dry+on bc)
Hey! Yes on the cleanser! Some skin can handle more than others. You can always follow back up with your dr to re discuss concentration if your skin starts to feel too compromised with the .1
I'm really confused why I'm not having any reaction to tretnoin whatsoever. It's been two days (one day just did a patch on my chin and the next day on full face) and I'm just not seeing any reaction/difference. I remember using my mom's Retinyl Palmitate cream a few times last year and wondering if that built up my tolerance.
just started my tretinoin journey, followed the tips mentioned here (0.025%, 2x times a week, applied after moisturizer) and so far i’m only experiencing a bit redness and dryness. it does help stopping my breakouts though! 😁 will try cutting it down to 1x a week to see if it helps ease the redness 🥹
@@mamtaarora7174 3x application since first and so far just a lil bit of purging, but good news is it resolves in just a day! i'd say spacing 4-5 days greatly helps. listen to your skin!
@@Vitamin_Pudding_The_President hello! week 7 now and still doing every third night, no more dryness/redness, less breakouts, smoother skin, and i got that tretinoin glow now 😊 so the key is start slow & low, listen to your skin, it’ll be alright!
hey! How old are you and did your dermatologist recommended or do i have to go and ask my dermatologist for this medcation? Im 19 years old and have a lot of pigmentation.. Can i start so young?
Hi .. I using tretinion for the first time. Can I apply vaseline ( petroleum jelly) on the dryness part or fine line cause by tretinion?? I need your advice .
You can use Vaseline prior to tret to occlude any small areas. Or, After you apply tret and your moisturizer you can apply Vaseline to any dry areas to help prevent moisture loss. I would just keep it to small areas though.
Hey! I would avoid coconut oil on the skin. It’s highly comedogenic so just to stay on the safe side I wouldn’t. Try a rich skin replenishing moisturizer instead.
If I’m being exposed to Uber rays, every 1 & 1/2 hours.. inside, I apply it in the am, but after that just depends on if I’m working in a dark room or sitting next to a window. Generally you want to reapply every two hours
