In this video we install the Barnes 4WD Behind the axle shock brackets. I have taken over 200lb off the back of my Jeep and I need to lower it about 1 1/2" now. This bracket works well on my DIY long arm setup on my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ.

I'd have used a small shim between the shock and the bracket before you welded it up. Same with link mounts.

Nice easy fix! Great that you are able to change the lower link mounts on the frame back to the previous spot now too!

Nice little mod. I am building a 95 YJ 4 link rear 3 link front. Makes me feel better watching you just cut stuff, move it around a bit and go out and try it. I have trouble committing to final welds! I just need to get it done and get it on the trail. Thanks for these videos Kelly.

Thanks man, lots of cutting, grinding and welding. Everything is fixable if it doesn’t work out. You try stuff, learn and make it better every time🤟🏻

Barnes looks like they have killer stuff. I was looking at stuff for my build today. Best part for me is they are 20 miles away.

Nice, they have a ton of cool builder parts and bolt on stuff. Been using there stuff since 2016.

I run those same brackets on the yj, it’s one of the few brackets that actually points the Shock eye the correct direction🤘

Yes, very true

its weird how so many face the wrong direction. I need to do something like this on mine, I just welded a bolt to the diff tube, but I was in a hurry to get into the snow.

curious what your thoughts are on the coilover setup now that you had a chance to hammer on it a bit? pros/ cons?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 2 года назад
It has worked great for years now. A properly setup four link with coil springs and good shocks would work awesome as well. Coilovers work great but are expensive. Just depends on what your goals and budget are.

Since you removed the lower shock mounts, why didn't you move them more outboard so you didn't have to grind out the upper shock tower?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 2 года назад
I can’t move them, the tires rub on the outside of the shock just barely. Any movement either way and it rubs. The only way to fix it, is to back half the frame or run wheel spacers.

Man your builds have gotten me through some real dome scratching projects. Have you found a need for an anti-rock in the rear with your new setup?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 2 года назад
Thanks man🤟🏻 I am interested in trying one out in the rear for sure, but they are very expensive. So maybe in the future.

Are you able to share what anti-squat numbers you have settled on?

Wouldn't it be better to get softer springs since you took weight off?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 2 года назад
That would be one way, but the springs are already very soft, it doesn’t weight much back there.
@rcmike09
@rcmike09 2 года назад
@Muddy Beards 4X4 ok, I was just thinking if the springs was good for the heavier weight, it would be pretty stiff now is all.
