That could be possible since Crisis City is in Sonic Generations

my thoughts on the whole "Bad future" deal is simple, many people seem to forget that in EVERY adventure, Sonic has to collect the Chaos Emeralds... probably because he dispersed them and/or they dispersed themselves. My theory on this notion is such: After the events of Sonic CD (which, according to Sega, takes place between S3&K and Sonic 4 Ep.1, which kinda makes sense, since Sonic is alone in episode 1 instead of with tails, it give a place for Tails Adventure on the Game Gear in the time frame) Sonic, having collected the Time Stones, left them with the Little Planet as he got himself and Amy off of it while it's vanishing (as in the good ending of Sonic CD, whether you got the time stones or destroyed the robot generators, the metallic shell that held it is gone in the ending fmv for SCD). Eggman/Robotnik, whichever you prefer, used the Time Eater in Sonic Generations to remove Sonic from the equation in Sonic 1, which Canonically takes place before sonic CD. No Sonic to complete sonic 1, no Sonic to create a good future in Sonic CD, thus creating the alternate dimension which you noted to. it's noted in Sonic CD that during the bad futures in the game, the Robots that are there are in Disrepair; The same could be said about the Metal Sonic from this alternate dimension (hence why he's sparking and in disarray in Episode Metal). there is no NEED for the Time stones outside of the main timeframe where Sonic wins.

Exactly. It's possible for the future of certain zones to be canon, it doesn't have a say on the entire game.

Nicky Tembo not my place to answer, but my guess would be that sonic fans are a hard group to please. If you try to make a new sonic game, some tell them to go back to the original formula, and making a classic game results in people telling them to be original and stop preying on nostalgia. They had decided that it would be a better idea to keep moving forward with the franchise rather than making a sequel that fans wouldn't be satisfied with. Sonic 4, in their eyes, was a mistake. Few people liked it and those that did still preferred the originals. If I were on sonic team, I would try to do something like what they're doing now with sonic mania; a callback and homage to the classic sonic games, but not making it fit anywhere in canon, or saying that it WAS a classic sonic game.

More than retconning its just a reboot but not actually one, it just created a different timeline with a better Sonic who actually got a good future, but Modern Sonic in the past didnt get to have the good future, getting the bad future which may be the one we see in Forces

They actually don't acknowledge CD in the elevator. And Sonic Mania happens before Sonic 4 so there is no reason for them to acknowledge it in the trailer

They specifically said "Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I picks up right where Sonic and Knuckles™ left off" but there is no reason for the game to take place right after Sonic and Knuckles. They can easily just retcon when the game takes place and move it to after Mania. Another theory I have is that Sonic Mania takes place in the same dimension as the one Classic Sonic comes from in Forces which explains why the drop dash is in both Forces and Mania. In this dimension, Sonic 1, 2, 3, K and CD happened but instead of Sonic 4 they had Sonic Mania instead.

I always kinda found it weird that even after you beat any ver of gens thats not gens 3ds is that you don’t unlock a good future version of the boss fight.

Not to mention that during Sonic Cd's 2011 release Sega said that CD place between &Knuckles and 4E1.

I literally had to check this considering you cannot enter special stages in Scrap Brain Zone in Sonic 1. However, you CAN enter special stages in Metallic Madness in Sonic CD.

Let's a Kickitoldskool it's extremely likely that Sega split the stories of Classic from Modern. Mania is canon to Classic, and Modern is no longer tied to the backstory of Classic. Mania's Sonic is not from the Forces dimension, it's confirmed by Tails. Mania Sonic is the Classic Sonic from 1 to 3 & Knuckles, though. Spoilers for Mania just in case, but... When Knuckles reaches the Master Emerald, he remembers trying to stop Robotnik/Eggman/Whoever from stealing it.

Mania retcons forces, I think. Kinda odd we see the ruby + sonic warping out of the portal in Encore Mode, as they both exited Egg Reverie Zone through a portal in Mania Mode... I dunno. Maybe the timeline splits in two? lets be honest there is no canon in sonic anymore. The wisps are still around despite not being explained, Generations screws over 06 being erased (apparently now it isnt), and nobody knows what the Phantom ruby even does anymore. The canon has gotten too complex, I think. I mean, it's a fucking blue anthropomorphic hedgehog that runs fast alongside a two tailed fox and an echidna that can glide to fight a doctor that goes by the name of Eggman (later down the line at least) and puts woodland creatures in robots to power them. i have a theory. i think eggman found remnants of sonic 06 and undid iblis from being erased. then he undid sonic going back in time causing crisis city to still exist in generations

First2comment in the good ending for Sonic CD, the little planet disappears in a shower of sparkles like fireworks. Sonic still dodges enemies in the ending cutscene and races off. The little planet only sticks around if all the Time Stones weren't collected.

Sonic CD DOES NOT happen after Sonic 2, canonically Sonic CD happens BEFORE Sonic 2, you forgot the Game Gear game as well, which happened before the MD version of Sonic 2.
