Great video, thank you for taking us inside the service bay. I was told the first service is free. Did you have to pay for that service or not?

Thanks!!! And you are correct! No Charge for the oil change and filter plus the tranny filter. And my Chevy Dealer went the extra mile by letting me into the service area to videotape the work done.

Hi Bob! Thanks for the great info. I have one question. The shop manual states very specifically to clean the 4 transmission filter housing bolt holes before installing NEW bolts. Do you know if the tech did this? Thanks

Thanks Bob, I enjoyed your trip to the dealership. I have a 2007 Jaguar XK convertible that I bought after a 2 year search on-line.I now have 43,000 miles on it.The car went from CT. to Palm Beach to Atlanta.I had it delivered to me on a flatbed here in Tn. It's porcelain w/camel int.and walnut trim.The best car I have ever owned...I love cars, car shows, and car people.Thanks Bob for sharing your passion for all the car people out there.

I bet the reason it was down 1/2 quart is before he didn’t pre-fill the oil filter prior to installing it. It actually hold 1/2 qt of oil. And it’s a BIG MISTAKE not to prefill the filter because it actually takes a few seconds for the fluid to cycle through a dry trans filter which it not good.

Good info. Just had my first service done. Told them to do the DCT filter as well. I’m learning that if you don’t ask for it many dealers will not swap that filter out. You definitely want that done during the first servicing, otherwise you pay for it in a future service.

I'm waiting to see what the analysis shows about the sample tranny oil i send out a few days ago. I looked really close at the tranny filter and could not find anything foreign. I might cut it open and look some more.

@@RobertMacCready please post the outcome. I had mine done at about 1600 miles. I know that’s not a lot but I don’t think I’ll get anywhere near 7500 miles before year one ends. I didn’t want the first free servicing to pass me by.

Had my first service done recently. A lot of dealers are keeping the DCT filters and analyzing them the same way you are in order to make sure the trannys are operating to specs.

I still am a little bit nervous about the DCT. And with the torque so low on the new Z06 I have to wonder if they're still using the C8 DCT in the new Z06.

Yes, that was very kind of the Service Manager. And Brian, the Corvette Tech, was great too. Never met either of them till I did the video. I really like their service dept. too. Have bought my last couple of Corvettes there for service and the service was always very good.

Very informative. How generous Nahas Chevy was. The tech who worked on the car was very knowledgeable. This may be the only inside view with the bottom panels removed!!! My guess---35 to 50 screws to remove that sucker.

Wait a minute here. You didn't add the tranny fluid after the filter change??!?!??? Is that all Chevy will do as part of the first service?

I came back later on after the filter change. After GM said that you could add the 2 qts and your tranny will be fine. And just leave it in there. You don't have to drain the 2 qts after each event.

I sure do appreciate you taking the time and trouble putting up this video. It was very informative. One question if you have time. Where or how do we check the transmission oil level? You spoke about it in the video when you said the engine isn't running to check the transmission but we do run it to check the engine oil. I have looked everywhere for the transmission dip stick but haven't seen it. If you have time and can say how the transmission oil level is checked it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the video.

Forgot to type an answer...sorry. When you go to the dealer for an oil change you can have the tech check your transmission level. There is no dipstick for the tranny. It's a screw type round plug on the side of the transmission. I think it's described in the owner's manual.

So why did you change the DTC filter and oil when you had 90% life left on it? Iv'e only had 2 oil changes on my 2020. They were free. Now I have to start art paying. I heard the tranny fluid change is expensive. I don't know if they will talk me into changing it or not. I only have 4500 miles on the car. It's in storage until spring because we get lots od snow in the winter here in Canada.

I was concerned about stories going around of pieces of the castings for the housing getting into the transmission oil and I wanted to add the 2 qts. And since the 1st tranny oil and filter were free, and the Chevy dealer said I could video tape it all, Why not! Had the oil, that I took out, analyzed and all was ok. And later added the 2 extra qts.

You must had done many “launch controls” on your C8, tires worn out more than ~>1 year. 😂

Actually, they're still in good shape. Using launch control you don't get but a little chirp out of the tires. Not like doing a burn out. So, the tires are still quite good.

You'd have to check with the dealer as I'm not sure. I changed mine after about 10 months. Also had them add the extra 2qts of tranny oil. Transmission runs sweet. No problems whatsoever.

Hi James, No, I don't do enough track days so I will skip the 2 extra qts. If I find that I want to do more track events, I'll add the 2 but for now I'll just keep the regular amount.

What is the added cost of the oil change on the c8 Vs a reg car? I know the added oil cost, but do they charge extra time for panel removal and installation?

Not sure on that one Justin. The 1st oil change/filter and transmission filter change are free with the C8. And no extra charge for the removal of the panels. My bill was $ 000.00.

@@RobertMacCready nice, keep up the great videos I subbed and liked, hope my 2022, C8 gets delivered in spring/early summer next year, I’m lucky, live in Canada, my province has a law not allowing dealer markups, funny thing is, a Ford dealer has 2 vettes, with 100 and 350km, marked up 45000, makes a person sick, again, keep up the great videos, congrats on the 2.8 0-60 in Mexico 😉

so when he changed the transmission filter he lost a bit of oil....did he put the oil back in ?? and how ??? also did u also added the extra 2 quarts of transmission oil that most people do ??

He didn't have to add any oil to the transmission. Oil level actually was fine even though some splashed out when he changed the filter. And I'm waiting on the 2 extra quarts. Still not totally convinced.

I've been street racing high performance cars since 1968. I guess I went to a different older school than you did because we always made sure everything was filled to the top when I'm pushing a car hard. Regards to the transmission, if it takes two more quarts, then in my opinion it should be put in. If it didn't need two more quarts they wouldn't have the space for it and they wouldn't tell you would need two more quarts for track use or spirited driving. I think they just found another way to save a few million dollars here and they probably figure most people won't either street race or track their car. Just my two cents.

@@salvatorecerniglia696 IF the extra 2 quarts is that important why would they not include the 2 quarts? We're talking a 60 to 100K car. I can't imagine they're selling these cars with tranny oil that's down 2 quarts!!! I think if you're tracking your car 20 times a year, go for the 2 qts. Anything less and I would not bother. Even the Corvette Tech agrees.

@@RobertMacCready There is two different levels to set the transmission at. One is the normal street use which is what it is set too. The second is for track use in which you set the fluid level to the level plug then ........when you take out the "trunk compartment" there will be another plug which you can add the 2 qts there. Then when done racing on the track set to normal street use level.
