Dear Kriksis, I want you to know that you are not alone and that we have all been through this. I wasn't able to make art my full-time career/business/income until I was 33 years old, and even then it was a huge struggle with lots of financial (and other) worries along the way. But eventually I managed to get to a more comfortable place, and I hope that this gives you hope! It takes a while. Don't ever beat yourself up or feel despondent. You have talent and a kind heart, and I know that it will all work out fine for you. Just concentrate on what you love, share your passion, make your beautiful work, and the stability will come. :) x

I think we are all feeling the squeeze lately ): Please know that you are a wonderful artist, and if you're not able to support yourself solely with your artwork right now - it is not a sign to just stop creating. There is a balance to be found (and your wellbeing should still be kept in mind there too!)

Kriksis - you are so talented! I'm glad I waited to the end of the video to comment because it seems like you may have found some work. (YAY!) I was going to suggest offering one-on-one instruction to people that want to learn illustration. You could even do one hour sessions online where you review someone's work, offer feedback, they could ask questions, etc. Charge by the session / hour. I also love your characters - I'm not sure if you'd like to do this but you could illustrate characters for people that look like them. I think it would be so cool to have an illustrated character of myself. I could use it on my website, profile pictures etc. I also remember a podcast I listened to a while back that had 100 different ways artists could earn money beyond selling their art. If you're interesting and I can find it I'll send the link your way. Those are just some random ideas. Hope it helps or inspires.

Hello Michael! First of all thank you for taking your time and writing this comment. Your suggestions are really brilliant! I have thought about creating illustrated custom portraits, that would be great practice! Might actually create this as an option on my store and draw few examples. :) Have a great day!

I am in the same place with my art and trying to make it more full time. Right now I also work a design job too. We will get there! Have you thought of doing live drawing sessions with patrons? You would provide images and then we all draw from them and chat! I have done this on other patreon and it is very fun. It could be cool to do picture books themed drawing dates too where we all create a book! These are just some thoughts. Love the video!

Your work is lovely, I’m sure you will be successful, its difficult trying to go freelance, marketing is the best way apparently, I have been painting for years and still work part time, having an online presense gets more viewers. I’m in Cornwall too, enjoy your videos. Xxx

Yes, I enjoyed this video 🦋 You’re an excellent illustrator. I hope you can fulfil your wish to get a job (teaching preferably ) one or two days a week to supplement being a full time artist. You’d make a very good teacher because you explain things clearly. I hope you also get to publish a children's book. I like the tip from your lecturer about trying to say your story in one simply sentence. Looking at your drawings, I was thinking the one sentence could be, ‘Lost then found.’, or ‘‘Ran Away then returned home.’, or ‘Sick then healed.’ or ‘Lonely then found connection by helping an abandoned/stray dog.’ Animals can be so healing. I was wondering have you looked into the meaning of a white dog/fox/Woolf (as some Indigenous cultures attach a meaning to an animal), or about the research into animals as companions for those who are lonely, sad, or anxious. This information may help with your storyline. Also, building a vision board of images may be helpful. I’m not an interior designer or a fashion designer but I’ve seen them build vision boards for inspiration (by sticking pictures and photos on a wall) to guide them with designing a room, or the next fashion collection. Anyway, this was just a thought (and you may already do this). Look forward to your next video 🌻
