30th December will be etched in the memory of MVL fans. The French GM played some of the best chess of his life and managed to win the World Blitz title 2021. What was extremely impressive is that Maxime beat Magnus Carlsen in the final round in order to tie the scores with Duda and Firouzja and force the playoffs. In the playoff match with Duda, there was a lot of pressure all around. But Maxime handled in better and after two draws, managed to strike the first blood!
With this victory MVL won the first World Championship title of his chess career. He has become the World Blitz Champion 2021.
