Myles Goodwyn of April Wine sat down to talk about his song "Rock and Roll is a Vicious Game" and how ruthless the rock and roll lifestyle can be. Without naming the "greats" who were the victims of the industry in the song, Myles gives us more insight about who he was thinking of when he wrote it.

One of the best live shows I have ever seen in my 35 years was Myles, Jim, Jerry, Brian and Steve at the 86 Street Club (Expo 86 Venue) in 1992. What a Venue to see one of Canada's loudest and proudest bands! They have so many hits! Keep on Going!

April Wine was and is , one of the very finest bands to come from Canada. It is impossible to make any negative comment about them, they were as good, if not better, than any band on this planet!! Simply, THE BEST!!!!

I grew up in Canada hearing them and digging them. Moved to the States in1980 when they then broke down here along with Triumph. Fun to watch. Great band.

Myles, I’ve seen you and the band many times throughout your career. You’ve written some of the best rock songs ever. Jerry was always one of the best Canadian rock drummers around. Such a great discography. Thanks for all the music Myles.

April Wine was one of my favorite bands in the 70's... It's pretty sad they didn't explode around the world, they got hit after hit.

The thing here in Canada back in the 70’s and 80’s, music critics usually disliked the rock music being created by Canadian bands. And they would be very vocal about it. Instead of helping new Canadian talent grow and make it outside of Canada, they pretty much did the opposite. Very sad actually. We’d have more and better Canadian bands and musicians if it wasn’t for those douche bags

April Wine truly surprised me, they had Eddie Money open for them and I thought going in the bill was reversed, and NO WAY would they be able to follow Eddies truly amazing set. But with all due respect to the great Eddie Money... April Wine OWNED the stage that night.

I was a musician. Guess I still am even though I am retired now. I am 60. Met Myles when I was 12. He was the reason I chose this career path. Myles is right. Its a hard job. Rock and Roll is a vicious game. But I made it through. Own a house. My kids have college degrees. Stay sober and shut up and play your guitar. It worked for me. I love you Myles. I miss you.

Edit. Addendum. I am in Peterborough watching a James Bond movie. Not sue witch movie. I think the lady was belly dancing and had a diamond in her belly button. Then the movie was cut off to announce Elvis' death. My Mom loved Elvis. So did I. I know its only rock and roll but I like it. I love you Myles. With all my heart.

Hey Miles….any critic who says ‘sour grapes’ etc is a fucking idiot and means nothing to nobody. You however are a songwriting genius who’s brought a lot of joy to a great many people. Thanks man.👊🏿

Love April Wine...so many great songs. Electric Jewels has possibly the best one-two punch to lead off an album ever with "Weeping Widow" followed by "Just Like That". The closest competitor is Road Apples by The Tragically Hip with "Little Bones" and "Twist My Arm". Canadiana at it's best!

My band opened for AW in the early ‘90’s. I remember our guitarist had a book with Myles in it. Myles took the book and showed all his bandmates before signing it. Apparently the guitar in the pic had been stolen years before. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses though...they we’re pissed because we drank all their beer backstage while they were onstage 😀

I don't expect music "critics" (more like parasites in too many instances) to be sycophants of the bands they are writing about. That would be transparent and uninteresting. However, could they consider the following perspective? If I was a fan of this type of music, how would I interpret this performance? Also, if you have "sour grapes" (I know it's the opposite of the story Myles told) about the success of certain performers, try writing and performing a song of your own. Then come back and comment... parasite, on the work of successful artists.
