When I was still a fetus metalhead, I thought swedish chainsaw was just like an exaggeration and that it wouldn't actually sound like a chainsaw, but then I found out it actually sounds like a literal chainsaw.

I love mine and that fact that its pink is a plus.

Distortion all the way off; all the distortion knob on this and the original HM2 does is just add a ridiculous amount of noise. I had to put a noise gate set to 85 % in front of it just to make it usable with that setting. The signature HM2 chainsaw sound doesn't come from the distortion this pedal provides, which is pretty weak and just not good. It comes from the ridiculous High Mid boost from diming the Mid knob (Hi on the original Boss one) and the Low Knob (more the former). Best way to run this thing is into an already distorted amp with the Distortion off and the rest on 10. Something like a Marshall is ideal. Best sound I ever got out of it was putting it into the gain channel of my JCM900 with the Distortion off. A clean boost with a tube screamer makes an interesting sound also, maybe good for leads. I tried putting a tube screamer (Gain -0 Level 10) after it, with the Lows on the HM300/HM2 turned down to noon and the Mids and Level on 10 and it sounded almost.....djenty. So that's another use for it, getting some evil Vildjharta sounds out of your British tube amp that does everything but doesn't djent.

The pedal sounds like total shite. I’ve had nothing but success with Behringer pedals with the exception of this particular one. You want actual metal distortion from a budget pedal? Grab a Donner Giant Metal. It is maybe 5 bucks more and provides substantially better distortion. Ranging anywhere from black metal to metalcore. Sooooo much better.
