A comparison of the Pro-1, Model D and K2. A very basic one oscillator bass patch. Let's see how they differ when compared solo and in a mix. A non-scientific comparison in a lofi(ish) track.
that moog saw alone sounds different from vintage mini , more buzzy mid frequencies , i guess its smd tech and youtube compression, the pro one seems to be less drifty in tone , stable without the beating osc of the model d, and the k2 doesnt sound at all like an ms20 :) , but i still like k2 as it sits better than the other two like you say
con fuzz I think the K2 sounds pretty identical to my MS-20 FS. Also my Model D sound just like my Minimoog D reissue, even in isolation. Maybe the original vintage units are different? In a musical context, nobody cares. In a heavy radio pop mix you can just use any random vanilla soft synth, it will sound like everything else anyway.
@@thomaskolb8785 depends fullsize original or fs reissue , I'm sure k2 sounds almost identical to the korg reissue ( I bet behringer just copied the smd substitutes korg used) but k2 really sounds different from an original ms in both versions as been heard on several videos , I also don't buy into the worn component thing that it may have sounded same 30 years ago and it changed due to use , not so that it would drastically change tone except it it had faulty component
@@thomaskolb8785 what i understandedold synths there is huge differencies beetween different machines. and indeed k-2 sounds best ths and maybe even my own uses. saddly i dont know if i have budget and room even such small machine.
I have a model d, voyager, and a ms20. The basic waves sound very similar, it’s the filters that really set them apart for me. Two resonant filters of the ms20 allow you to select a more specific bandwidth for your sound, and the separate peak controls on each filter can react in very unexpected ways.
You know the Model D is just more refined in its sound. The K-2 is raw and immediate. The Pro 1 is also very immediate. May be its the envelopes but its probably more of the filter. It is the same on the originals from my experience. I used them on many projects so pretty familiar of the tones. That is actually the great thing about these Beringer versions. The design follows very closley the original synths. really enjoying your videos. Cheers
I just saw the video by Electric cafe, he’s got an original and a B pro1. Sounds basically identical to me. Good stuff! Will do the firmware update somewhere this week.
Got all three of these. They each have their comfort zones, though the k2 & Model D are in closer ballparks. Would have been interesting designing similar sounds on each machine and comparing, using more advanced programming than just open filtered single saws. My personal fave varies depending on the day, song and mood. All are worth the money.
Thanks! Would I be able to get a Moog-like smooth buttery sound from patching the K2 into the Crave (which has the Model D filter)? I love the Model D sound for bass and leads but think a K2 and Crave would be more versatile overall.
For anyone interested, I ended up trying it but it didn't work out too well (at least the way I set them up). Ifrc, for the best results I had to go from the main output into the ESP in then go from the ESP amp output into Crave's external input, but the mix still had to be at about 75 for a good balance. Also having the resonance all the way produced a loud feedback and not a nice sine peak you would expect, so the filter can't be straightforwardly used with external oscillators as I thought. The sounds were not bad but not nearly as smooth as the tones Crave or the Model D itself, so I ended up returning both and going with just the Model D for now.
Thanks for checking. I kind of like the combination of the Neutron and the D. Both quite different and very complimentary. Those two plus something like a Digitone (I do have) or Peak (don't own one) and you really have a nice set. And for the drums, maybe a Digitakt ;-)
@@RobertIverMusic I agree! After a long look at the options, I'm working towards almost exactly that setup: the Model D, a Neutron and a Microfreak (rather than a Digitone) for synths and for drums my MFB Tanzbär paired with a Digitakt for sequencing and sampling. Just waiting for a good deal on a Neutron and a Digitakt in my area.
Awesome comparison. The K-2 sounds a little noisier and might emphasize odd-harmonics a bit more compared to the others, but I’m just using my ears and have no clue if that’s actually the case. That said, I’d probably get the K-2 out of these three since I have the PolyD and am waiting for their Pro-800.
Hello good Sir, I was almost sold on the K-2, but after watching your (incredibly skillful) showcases of the other budget friendly behringer synths they all seem like a great option. One of them (K-2/Modell D,/ Pro-1/Neutron) will hopefully be my very first synth. I intend to use it mostly for indie/electronica/techno. I would like it to be a versatile one with decent depth to it, which lead me to the k-2 in the first place. However, I also liked the sound of the Neutron in your demo, even though the patch bay looks a bit intimidating for someone who has only used soft synths so far. I also really liked the weight of the sound the pro-1 had in this video, but I would really like to get a synth that can do a wide spectrum of sounds and the pro-1 seems to be kinda limited in that regard. Which one do you think would be the best option here ? And is there any reason to go for the Modell D (I could get an used one on ebay for ~ 220 euros)? Please keep on doing great videos and have a nice day
Thanks a lot for the compliment. I must say it’s quite difficult to choose one. Somehow they all miss something. De D is really the standard. You can’t go without but I personally love the Neutron. And the K2 is a real angry synth. But that’s something you can achieve with the Neutron to. But for 220 a model. Yes please;-)
@@RobertIverMusic Thank you very much for your opinion ! I guess I will give the Modell D a try, if I feel I need something more versatile then there´s always the possibility to sell it and get something else I guess ;) . You´ve earned yourself a sub btw !
I’d say your mix presented the bass a little more upfront than normal. But also you could make an entire song randomly switching between these and no one would notice. 🤣
Depends, but if one the D and two add the Neutron. But it’s personal. I just really love that 24db Moog filter. And the neutron is so nice and experimental.
You should get a Yamaha reface CP if you want EP stuff. Everything sounds amazing and the Effects section is solid. Go from Funky all the way to old western movie twang (Clav, Drive Max, Tremolo, Phaser, heavy reverb). It sounds killer with the Gritty model D. The Rhodes MK1, MK2 and Wurli are dead on and have all the Barks and chimes. Toy Piano makes killer Bell Sounds (Arp, Seq is crazy) the CP bring you back to the 80s. Bonus has a hidden Piano that is really good.
Great demo. Nice to hear the 3 running side by side in a track. Pro 1 wins for me...and the Mod D comes last (😯) The filter on the D (minimoog) always makes it cook in a mix though...I don't have a D but I have an SE-1 (Midimoog) which always cuts through a mix..here it is in action ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VhOVMs0SC5o.html Glad I found your chan...I'm subbing.👍🏻😎
