I use this pedal on my Bassman 50 amp with one repeat. Sounds better than reverb. I have a second one with the repeat rate at 1:00 the echo at just shy of 1:00 and the intensity set at 11:00 and that gives me the vibrato sound of 50's style music. Love this pedal.
@JoshDaveJones
@JoshDaveJones 10 лет назад
Got this as I saw one going cheap on eBay - and I don't regret a single penny paid - It's fun as hell, playing with the intensity to get a feedback signal then playing with the repeat rate makes for some strange Star Wars-esque spaceship sounds. Not to mention a nice reverb/echo with milder settings.

Dude same, I bought this pedal and found myself making Airplane Fly-by sounds, Spaceship Alarm Sounds and the deep droning, rumbling sounds of Ventilation Ducts.

Thank chance I clicked on this vid, the few top others on the VD400 weren't helpful at all as to what the pedal can do, this helped me decide that I want it. Thank you, dear sir.

I really love mine ! It's not overly dark and mushy like other so-called vintage delays. It's simple, nice sounding and weigh less than a can of soda (without batteries).

Good demo dude. I think the best thing is that this delay isn't too noisy considering its price. If you want expensive tone buy an expensive effect. But remember, expensive tone doesn't always equal great tone.

So if I wanted an 8 repeat per second rate, fading out over 1 second, would I set repeat rate at around 3 o'clock and the intensity at around 12 o'clock? That's what my slap echo pedal sounds like, and I'm trying to figure out how to get that sound with a delay pedal

Mine behaves a little strangely - If I put the intensity at anything past say 8 o'clock it just starts feeding back uncontrollably (echo increasing in volume and feeding back on itself endlessly). Anyone else hit that problem?

I'll let you know that Behringer own and run a company called Cool Audio which at the moment is the only producer of 'analog' BBD chips used commonly in analog delays and chorus pedals. I'm sure elsewhere the curcuit of the vd400 has been verified to be a true bbd delay pedal.
@skooterdavis

Do you have this in front of the amp or in the loop?
@ThamMalaysia
@ThamMalaysia 7 лет назад
You would do well to turn off the Reverb on your amp, so you can demonstrate the Delay pedal properly. The key to a good delay sound is to set the Delay time high, Repeat low and Depth/Intensity low. I remember during the 80s, the guitarists in this local disco usually set the Boss DM-2 at Echo 7 o'clock (max delay), Intensity 10 o'clock and Repeat 10 o'clock.

I'm thinking about buying one of these. What I really want is to be able to manipulate it in real time with no sound clipping (many digital pedals clip when you turn their knobs). I know that the Boss DM-3 does what I want and I believe this is a copy of the DM-3. If you turn the repeat rate knob while sound is being generated, does the pitch change? Can you hear the sound clipping or is it a smooth change? Thanks!

+gabriel monticello definitely will, analogue delays will do that for sure even dirt cheap ones. definitely go look at the behringer VM1, it's a memory man clone and it's amazing. very versatile and warm sounding too. i've owned a lot of them, they're sturdy and excellent for live shows and you can do all the fiddling sounds like you want to do with it too. (:
@Ston247

+gabriel monticello These are actually very good. Dirt cheap, juicey sounding and simple. I don't take my DM-2 into the field anymore. I'll use the VD 400 or Ibanez DE-7.

@lawrencegenereux8567

Rhys Jackson No. Reverb is random reflections, so the sound is continuous as it dies out. If you speed up the echo, it will still pulse, only very fast. Not a good reverb simulation at all.

If you are even a real musician and you hear the sound at 2:27and 4:21, it does a pretty good echo/ delay to my ears. Oh, and yes, I can hear how it can sound sterile especially at the end of the video when he starts strumming. But considering the fact that its a twenty dollar pedal...not bad. I do see myself using this just for the echo, so I give it 3 thumbs up two for the pedal and one for "deadbirdsings".

Delay Time?
@AndyPanda9
@AndyPanda9 4 года назад
I like your playing a lot! I have the same pedal and I wish they had labeled the controls differently. Rate=delay time (but it turns backwards - all the way clockwise is zero delay time and full counter clockwise is the max delay time - I guess they're thinking of a tape echo and rate being how fast the tape is running) Echo= wet/dry blend and Intensity=feedback or how many repeats. Just isn't intuitive control labeling compared to most delays -- but probably the same as whatever Boss pedal this is a copy of.

Boss had a similar high frequency noise issue with the PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay when it was first issued. They later corrected it. I wouldn't like to play the Behringer at high volumes. In this price range, I recommend the Chord DL-50 delay pedal. It is made of die cast metal.

I bought it as a delay pedal, but I don't use or mess around with a lot of delay when I play guitar. So it's been serving almost as a reverb pedal... gives a nice little bounce-back on top of a little reverb from the amp.

Katie Farrant I'll confirm this, I've taken Behringer and equivalent Boss Pedals apart only to find the internals are almost exactly the same (with minor differences, they like to change where they toss the 9v input jack and stuff). I'm pretty sure the internals are literally made in the same factory. FYI, I have never had a plastic behringer pedal break on me, and I've gigged the fuck out of them.

You can get the same effect with a RV-7 Hardwire brand. But the RV-7 Hardwire brand give dozens of other effects, including this one. This one sounds more like a limited reverb pedal. I do not mean this as an insult. It's just how i see and hear it. Look for youtube demo's on the Hardwire RV-7 and see how it matches this one and many others... Yet the RV-7 is a superior reverb pedal in accordance to it's intent of design and classification. I realize the price difference is a lot.
