I've seen this argument come up again lately, probably will for years.
So here's my comparison, not using saw vs saw etc. But a little tune you may have heard before. The other synth was added, to give more of a 'mix', as that's also mentioned in every debate.

Same sound, one costs 300€ the other 5000€ No brainer. Having said that, I’d like to see Moog output an eurorack synth with 2 or 3 vco and classic synth functions.

Yet … have you noticed there are ZERO demos or comparison videos where someone is playing a Behringer musically, like playing with the filter and doing the full Moog funk or jazz thing ala Stevie Wonder or Bernie Worrell? These Behringer shootouts pretty much always feature basic wave forms or standard sounds that are actually also pretty much fully achievable via high end VST’s as well. Yet … have you noticed there are no demo’s or comparison videos of high end musicians playing complex musical lines on Moog VST’s in the style of those 70’s and 80’s iconic lines? And it’s always basic, vanilla sounds played one at a time or via midi? I wonder why that is?

Also, you can get the classic Moog tones-but with a lot of modern features, a software editor, etc.-for just a little more than a Bodel D … in the form of a Minitaur, used Sub Phatty, and a few others. I got a Sub 25 for a little over $500 dollars, after it was initially rejected as an ugly step child during the wave of the Sub 37, GM, and Matriarch … which was also the period that coincided with Behringer hype at an all time high with the Poly D and RD-8 coming out. Not only is the Sub 25 fatter and heftier in the low end bass department than anything Behringer has made, it sings the high leads better, has a complex and unrivaled distortion circuit (true for all Moog gear, really) is a full musical instrument, has more presets and patch memory than I’ll ever need, has a software editor, etc. There’s nothing wrong with toys, cheap gear for beginners, etc. But don’t fool yourself into thinking you are getting the real thing. And for just a little more, or in some cases less (Poly D is more than the Moog’s I mentioned above), you can get the real thing. It’s a no brainer.

The sound might be close enough for Jazz but when its time to maintain it though...

That's the thing I agree. Hopefully, neither of mine require anything major in my remaining years! Thanks for your input.

@@MusicZeroOne I think what we will see though is the young folks who are using the clones will eventually move on to the originals when they get older and can afford them. If they went through what I went through in my 20s, I thought "I can never afford 3k for a musical instrument"

@@Rhythmicons 100% There's something about the originals and higher tier gear, that simply doesn't translate over RU-vid. I done a paper delivery round for 8 month for my first guitar, it wasn't even that expensive either! Was years before I got another.

@@MusicZeroOne Some of that is the FEEL of those Pratt-Read keys with their imperfect contact assemblies. The short travel of the clavinet keys coupled with the anvil is something that can't be replicated on a Nord.

They don't sound exactly the same, Moog as subtile better dynamic feel and classic tune character, while the Model D is more in your face modern sounding, but I wonder if Model D with aged components would make it the same ? As it can make big differences.
@DarkTrapStudio

But Its pretty subtile.

Its sound a bit like a vintage 1073 compare to a modern 1073 clone haha sound less expensive

Well spotted. Yes, the Moog is slightly softer and gentle. The pots are more precise, maybe the D’s little pots don’t help. I generally leave the D on 1 bass setting and use the Moog for everything else. Thanks for watching 👍

What about tuning destabilization. Do you have to tune it when you first get it?
@MusicZeroOne
@MusicZeroOne 9 месяцев назад
The Boog? Mine was fine. I did have one a few years ago, and I had to tune that. My Moog needed a slight tune this year. Neither are an issue though.

@@MusicZeroOne I should have been more specific. Yes, the "boog".

@@analogsynthplayer I've had to open up and calibrate my Behringer Model D a couple of times (owned it for over four years). I use the information from the Behringer video on doing it (not the Marshall Arnold video). It is easy to do, but you need a sequencer or keyboard that can send it the notes A2 and A5. I used a Keystep Pro for that. I also let my analog synths (Prologue 16, Behringer Model D and K2). warm up for 20 minutes before playing them. That helps keep them in tune.

It really boils down to money (doesn’t it always!). If you’ve got it, the Moog is excellent. If not, the Behringer is brilliant. Would fit in a Behringer rack above your new synth just nicely 😃 Fwiw I didn’t pay the recent price as mine is the older model. 5k is too much in my opinion.
