If you don't get off the bike in good time you'll keep going until you fall off and possibly do yourself an injury. Get off the bike to take a break and re evaluate whilst you still can.
I think this is exactly the right thing to do. I often say that my happiest times have followed my toughest times - because when things go well, you just plot along while when things don't quite work, you stop, change and try something new. Maybe you find a path that is easier to get to the top of the hill on. While you were struggling up and up you didn't notice it on the side. Enjoy the summer, do something really different!
