subarna chatterjee that monk is Ven.Sampasadana (Sampa) who’s wisdom blows our mind when we have discussions with him. He is a beautiful product of Ajahn Brahm’s monk factory, Bodhinyana monastery. :) When we get to interact with these monks we understand that Ajahn Brahm is doing something right. 🙏🏽

True. I would like to praise the monk/nun (?) sitting next to him for patiently listening to his talk👍🏼 I am so glad you pointed that out. I would have never thought of that. Hope the nun/monk on left would gradually do some talks of her own!!

I love Ajahn Brahm´s approach to life and his method in teaching. It´s so wonderful that he is joking and laughing. There are so many boring teachers, who takes everything way to serious.

How does someone move forward in life, when their past could come back and effect their future ?
@richardfuchs3690
@richardfuchs3690 6 лет назад
The same way we drive our cars, by focussing on what's right in front of and not where we were an hour ago, or where we'll be tomorrow. We can't change the past, or control much into the future. The present is the only thing we can control.

Forgiveness. Forgive yourself. Forgiveness is giving up on the hope of having a better past. Let it go. The past does not exist. Ajahn Brahm has an excellent talk labeled "I don't own my past". Check it out, it's excellent.

Sarah Jessica Parker has no training or understand Buddhism. Reading your book does not make her a Buddhist. Come now monk your info. 🤔 sometimes I wonder
@ceylonss
@ceylonss 6 лет назад
Well, I can understand you trying to find something that you believe is right, but you still on your way. So as all these monks n nuns , they are no different from you except for the yellow robe. My question is how do they know they have achieved certain state? According to Buddhism which I believe transformed by monks that you are so entangled to believe , for their survival, there are few steps before attain nirvana but how do they know if they have gotten them? Ask your monk teachers n analyse with your common sense. I think truth is you , its not in word call "metta" or "sadu" or Buddhism, and for the note , Buddha or Siddhartha Gauthama wasn't a Buddhist.
@kalixseyr1145
@kalixseyr1145 6 лет назад
: D ofc Sidd wasn't a buddhist, and Jesus was a jew. Also: are you serious?.. Do you think monks are just doing magic tricks? Give that brain a rest. That being the whole point, and all. ; )
@elisenieuwe4649
@elisenieuwe4649 5 лет назад
In monks with a lot of meditation experience and those that act quite egoless, scientists/ docters can see brain differences with MRI compared to other people. They can also measure brain waves with an ECG. When they start meditating or do some other assignments, there brain waves are different/ stronger. Ofcourse you still don't know 'where' the person is on the path, / how 'enlightened' they are, but there is definitely something going on if you get further. It's not 100% subjective.
@ceylonss
@ceylonss 6 лет назад
he does a good social service by soothing weak minds , everyone seek for happiness so as him, if nothing is permanent why bother happiness and peace? I think all these monks are like doctors, they try to heal others but they cant heal themselves.

Thank you for your opinion! May be you should keep it to yourself because most people in the world, just love and totally respect Venerable Ajahn Brahm who has nothing to lose, nothing to gain, just so good at explaining Buddhism in simple English in such a loving, interesting way so people like us can understand! He has the ability to teach how to live your life as a practicing Buddhist, to follow the 8 fold path, and that is what brings lasting happiness and peace to people like us who believe in Buddhism! May you be not so judgemental, negative in your life and be happy and content! Metta to you!
@ceylonss
@ceylonss 6 лет назад
have you met anyone who have fulfilled those 8 paths and found profound happiness? Or are they still trying? What about you deep down arent you still a human with weaknesses n strengths? You sit n listen to this preaching then for a day or two you think different n again back in the saddle again this is a continuous journey isn't it? So where's eternal happiness? Its not anywhere but inside you find it .

You ask good questions so I decided to give you answers even though at first I didn't want to waste my energy and time here, in case you cannot understand what these talks are about! I see Buddhist monks and nuns who are so happy the ones who practice what they preach! so yes to the first question. They are on the path ,one day they will reach the end depending on the level of their practice. As for me, I am a lay person who believe in 1) Buddhism 2) Non self (no self) 3) the fact that generosity, right conduct( keeping the 5 precepts) and meditation bring lasting happiness, peace and contentment in this life. I do my best to practice and live my life accordingly (a Buddhist way of life) even though I am not perfect. Since I changed my life style, others have noticed I am nicer, happier, and very rare for me to get angry. And guess what I smile more like never before! I still enjoy good things in life as a lay person, without too much attachment to anything with the understanding that everything changes! With Metta!
@jnixi2
@jnixi2 6 лет назад
He doesn't have to be perfect to be on a beneficial path to enlightenment. It's like most teachers teaching other subjects. They may not know everything about a subject, but they know more than me and therefore have some knowledge to share. We can take what's useful and leave what isn't.

Trish Traynor you are free to comment! Please try not to judge Ajahn Brahm and or stop judging others!, just because you don't get his point or the message in the talk. It is not the story line, it is not the joke, it is the pearl of wisdom that comes with it that matters and so many people out there in the world who are smart enough to get the point of these talks have found peace and happiness. I have much gratitude and respect for Ajahn Brahm who is so kind and selfless, for all he does to make this world a better place for all living beings! May you be happy and content!

I took a week to reply because initially I was disappointed about the inaccurate information Ajahn Brahm made in his talk. I remember the SARS epidemic. The world literally sat on the edge of a pandemic unseen in modern times. So many of the people that died were doctors and nurses caring for the afflicted. The disease spread very quickly worldwide with many deaths from Singapore spreading to distant places like Toronto in mere days. It was the quarantine that he ridiculed that saved untold lives. I was disappointed in the way Ajahn Brahm spoke of it in such a flippant manner. I knew the family of one nurse who died. She gave her life for her patients and is a true hero. She knew the dangers and still remained to help her patients and would not leave them. In any sense of the word she is a hero. She deserves a greater honour to her memory. Now, that being said, I still want to learn from him about the way of Dharma. No teacher is perfect, no holy person is without defect, but he has an inner peace, a view of life, and attitudes that I generally (but not always) derive benefit. As far as ego, he has adopted for almost his entire adult life, the Thai forest tradition, that is one of the most spartan lifestyles on the planet. I find it impossible to reconcile your comment about ego to the way he actually lives. I believe you are in error. Ultimately it is what I do with the knowledge that he passes on, and how I live my life following those principles. Whether he is right or wrong matters very little compared to my own actions towards others. That is the greater benefit that I must strive for everyday, how can I assist others and lighten their burdens, without the need to criticise or create poor karma. You spoke honestly about how you view something, that should never be discouraged, even if I do not agree completely with what you said. Sincerely all the best to you Ms. Traynor.
