nope, you are totally right. I think the same. His version and voice are ok. No shame there but it is the rest... it would have been cooler in a racing suit. The huge cape is just... weird. why not have dressed in a racing suit and with the Magritte hat with the belgian colours. the "show" looked like an amateur display while the guy can really sing.

Everyone, absolutely everyone, from the FIA officials, to the drivers, to the fans were on the verge of bursting the deepest laughter known to mankind, including myself. Embarassing performance, like there was no one else who could sing the national anthem but this clown. Thanks god I'm not Belgian, I'm embarrassed for them though.
All respect to the singer... though it doesn't make it any less cringey. What the fuck happened to bringing proper orchestras to perform the national anthems at sporting events? Damn, it's the song representing your COUNTRY, don't try to copy the Americans, they too have stopped caring for as long as I can remember. The Middle Eastern nations still do use orchestras, however off-key they sound at times. Azerbaijan doesn't, but their performances kick ass.

Plus the fact that they’re outside on a windy day yet the music sounds like it’s coming from a studio mic with a sound guard on and he is frolicking about like god knows what but is not out of breath once 😂
