Man I’m glad I caught you before you blew up. Amazing video editing and picture/audio quality! Thanks for all the useful information- I was wondering why my Rogers internet was so unreliable at times, it must be a broken cable somewhere. Luckily Bell is installing fibre in my area as we speak and should be available within the month. With work from home due to covid, the unreliable internet from Rogers was severely impacting my workflow! Can’t wait for fibre and I’m glad it has your approval!

No worries at all! In my case I was counting it down like crazy for when I could order 🤣 - but even now, having had it since September and using it for massive uploads, it still amazes me. Things are uploading in mere minutes or seconds vs 10’s of minutes or hours in some cases. And that was coming from Rogers at its optimal performance. That comment about me blowing up made my day 🙏🏾🙏🏾. I’d love to do this as a career. Lots to improve upon, but one step at a time. Thank you!!

Great video! You described the exact issues we've been dealing with Cogeco high speed. Every fall the drops would start. I so wanted to changed, but there was no other option. Then Bell brought in FFTH and after another round of crap internet from Cogeco I made the switch. Super happy so far.

Bro, first of all as a fellow content creator, I appreciate the value you give here, very well done! You really should have more subs but as you know, it will take time. With that being said, I just signed up for Rogers from Bell because there is no fibre available in my area, they keep telling me it's coming and I can no longer wait. The fastest as I can get with Bell is 50Mbs down and 1-3 up. What is this 2000? So, for now I'm very happy with Rogers and the 30up is good enough for me as I rarely upload anything more than 3gigs. Great to know all the points you mention for when Fibre is finally available, I can easily switch back. Keep up the great content bro, your homie from Ajax.

Nice video! I found that with Rogers, we had various issues that went unresolved. First, video chat calls frequently pause and reconnect....... we tested calling a few different people, which also included using fiber cable connection on the other side to confirm it was Rogers, which was the 500u package at the time. While the download boost appears GREAT on the surface, the quality and latency of the line was garbage... While we don't have Bell FTTH and using DSL, our video calls no longer freeze and the internet is just fast enough to meet our needs. A tradeoff that is well worth it until FTTH is here. Thanks for the video.. Looking like a fellow west indian :D
@TechMixr

Thanks for the love on the video! It seems that stability over coax is a challenge Rogers deals with more often than not. Bell's coaxial service seems to be more stable, but all of it needs to be updated for sure. The latency and quality-loss associated with inconsistent service is usually associated with damaged cables somewhere. Sidenote, there's another video that expands on this video coming in the next few days (all filmed and mostly edited) - it also addresses an error I made in this video - well ... an error that wasn't necessarily my fault. Hint: Bell's internet is better than the shortcoming I cited in this video. And you're right, definitely a fellow West Indian ;)

You have great style in the way you deliver your message, Shawn! Thank you!! I enjoyed watching. Here in Bath (near Kingston), Bell just finished installing fibre to the home and I was super pleased to say goodbye to Cogeco. The Cogeco service became unbearable as it would go down all the time (although I think a lot of that had to do with the Bell install interrupting Cogeco service; they cut my Cogeco cable when they ran their fibre to my house. I questioned a bell tech working on my street and he allowed that it happens all the time). I was watching your vid to see if you had anything to say about throttling by Bell on their 1.5 gig service. That's what I'm paying for but youtube videos start to freeze and timeout from time to time and I am wondering if they are throttling as they don't like us using an average of 10-15gb/day on their unlimited plan.
@TechMixr

Hmmmm that’s odd. I never got throttled with mine and I’ve moved from 1.5 to 3 gigabit and now 8 gigabit. Sorry for the super delay in responding. Apparently I missed a boat load of comments because RU-vid studio seems a touch broken. How has your service been lately?

Thanks for watching! So I’ve been on Bell Fibre To The Home since September 2021 and as of writing this, I have no reason to ever switch back to Rogers. Rogers was decent for stability but can’t even touch this connection at all. If I were you, switch to FTTH if it is true FTTH in your area!

Thanks for the informative video. Or local rural cable ISP was bought out by Rogers so they are the only choice unless you want to go wireless. They sent email that they will be offering 1.5 Gig downloads and they were doing work on it today, so expect outages. Your video froze at about the 6:30 mark. At first I thought it was clever editing at the "I hate cable" meme video. Nope, it was my connection dropping for maintenance, perfect timing!

Good old Rogers. Sorry I took so long to respond- life is kind of insane in my world. I wish Rogers would get it together. There was another big outage the other day near where I live, and considering how unstable the network seems to be, I can’t fathom not getting a lot of bill credits because I don’t know if I’d continue to pay for it. Hopefully as time goes on, we get more options to everyone. Bell has been flawless in terms of stability. Great video! Love your explanation and unbiased opinion. , you forgot to mention is the Fibe to the Node vs FTTH, when everyone is on at the same time, Rogers expose there weakness. If Bell can upgrade the protocol from 4 to 6 it will be perfect! With the Home Hub 4000 you can achieve Gigabit speed not just take advantage of bandwidth with multiple devices. Also Rogers is announcing FTTH now although it will be limited to what areas. Bell also offers Wireless Home internet(like Xplorenet technology)
@TechMixr
@TechMixr Год назад
I purposely didn’t mention it as now the marketing is “hybrid fibre” which is super annoying 😂 - we need Bell to get on IPV6 ASAP. I’m curious to see how Rogers is going to do this. They have fibre to the home in areas like Aurora Ontario…………. But they convert it with a media converter back to coaxial cable and then offer the end user the same cable packages they offer everyone else. My assumption is that when they flip the switch on a large area that has this type of setup, a tech will come with a new modem, remove the media converter and coaxial cable and plug the XGS-PON cable (presumably) into their new modem and voila, fibre package. But Rogers needed to do this switch like 5 years ago to even be taken seriously.

Great video! I subscribed :) I just switched from Rogers Ignite 500u to Bell Fibe Gigabit 1.5 FTTH. There's much lower latency and much less packet loss. The one downside is that the Bell fibre jack installation was pretty ugly -- it wraps around the front of my house and has exposed cables. Do you have any ideas of getting around this? Are there any services in the GTA that I could pay to do a cleaner installation? Also -- do you have experience connecting a router to the HomeHub 4000? Having difficulties with that

Thanks for the compliment! So Rogers offers fibre to the home in certain areas- and here’s a weird fact, when I moved in my house back in 2019, they installed a ton of fibre cables spooled up at the end of my small street. It’s been sitting there since. So I’m guessing they may have done this in quite a few areas and then they’ll just deploy their contractors to run it down the street. As it stands right now, my understanding is that Rogers does fibre to the node now (thus the 8-10 ms ping for most people with decent installations) but then coaxial to each house as it was easier. It will be exciting to see how price competitive they get once there’s competition. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been able to get around 110 megabytes a second upload to Dropbox so it’s been great. Being on 3 gig now, I notice it doesn’t get any higher than 110 MB/sec on Dropbox but Google Drive allowed me to upload around 250 megs a second. I don’t use google often (outside of uploading to RU-vid) so I’m not sure if it’s always like that. I found a lot of servers don’t support beyond gigabit - but if you’re trying to do gigabit upload, lots of services seem to offer it now. Bell still doesn’t have the Fibre in my area for maybe into 2024 to 2025 so still only running 50Mbps for download and my son kept telling me it’s lagging and now Dec 2022 Rogers offers Fibre 1.5Gbit Would that make a huge difference to go with Roger Fibre ?
@TechMixr

If it’s actually fibre and not fibre to coaxial / copper, then yes you’ll see a massive difference. But- I BELIEVE the 1.5 plans are still just copper cable internet plans. From what I’ve seen, true Rogers fibre deployments offer 2.5 gigabit to your home. The ones offering 1.5 are the same as the original 1 gigabit with a speed bump.

I know this video is a bit old but keep in mind that Rogers does offer symmetrical speeds as well as they're upgrading their FTTH from RFoG to GPON in select neighbourhoods. Previously I was on their RFoG service as they don't do copper cabling on new builds within the past 5 years or so in the GTA. They recently upgraded my neighbourhood to GPON and their new network can do symmetrical speeds and can even do speeds of up to 8 gbps (not that most people can take advantage of). So one can't say Rogers suck because it can't do symmetrical speeds, they can but the rollout isn't as fast as Bell, especially in the neighbourhoods that are FTTN and not wired for FTTH. It sounds like Rogers never upgraded your neighbourhood to FTTH yet, thus you were still stuck on FTTN while Bell started to offer FTTH first. Comparing GPON FTTH in neighbourhoods that both offer GPON FTTH, comparing the two Bell and Rogers is basically a wash as both can offer symmetric speeds and are both highly stable.

Well that's a tough one. In the video, match-making on Xbox Live was definitely an issue. If I were in your shoes, I'd honestly wait until they officially support IPV6. It can't be much longer. Eventually everybody has to move to it and also, as Rogers has IPV6, if their Fibre-To-The-Home implementation also has IPV6, it would be in Bell's best interest to get ahead of it. I'm assuming Gigabit Fibe is available in your area right? I'll say this much, match-making and overall connecting into the game is troubling and I wouldn't switch YET because of that. BUT, when you're in a game, it's, well, STUPID-good LOL.

I would try Bell for a little if you’re playing games as DSL through Bell MIGHT not bad terrible for gaming at 100mbit. But there’s a high likelihood you’ll switch to Rogers or TechSaavy because the overall speed will definitely be a pain point at 100mbit. That being said, if you switch to Rogers, try to get the technician to replace all the coaxial cables at your new address. Just to avoid issues later on (or at least have them verify that the existing cables are good before they leave)

Had to have rogers in the house I just moved from in a very populated urban area for almost 18 years…. Almost dead middle of the city bell couldn’t even get close to what we wanted. I remember getting a flier advertising fast internet and tv from bell and reading into it started at 512kbps and the max speed (if possible) was 5Mbps and bell express tv…. We had to originally switch from bell to rogers at that house when we moved cause of it, how in 18 years did the internet from bell in an urban area not get better? I don’t know Another interesting notice about 3 years ago in my friends new complex…. He wanted rogers I can’t remember his upload speed but, they took fibre into his house and then converted it to coaxial, like 2 feed into his modem… but the ping was amazing. I do agree I don’t know why the upload is so terrible.
@TechMixr
@TechMixr 2 года назад
So new Rogers fibre drops use a GPON to coaxial media converter to their current Hitron equipment, and when they eventually go straight fibre with Rogers, customers will be able to plug that fibre into a different modem and return the older cable equipment. As for why the upload is terrible, those modems are programmed to use Rogers’ old DOCSIS implementation. So symmetrical upload and download isn’t possible. Now, there IS an updated spec of DOCSIS that allows it to do better upload and download over cable. But consider how high of a frequency you’d need to be clean for it to work well. I feel like Rogers realizes they can’t afford even more complaints and bad PR when Bell is aggressively deploying fibre everywhere. So they’re skipping that DOCSIS version and just rolling fibre where they can (or at least that’s how it seems). All this is best guess scenarios so take it with a grain of salt, I could and may be way off base. But it looks like it’s going that way.

I have been using bell since the first time I got internet in Canada in 2001. I been very happy with the service even though my townhouse condo uses Rogers I still use bell internet. The only issue I had with bell was not offering anything more than their 100mbps speed, but that would make sense since our whole townhouse complex is serviced by rogers maybe they don’t see the point of developing the area with fibre optics. Now I’m in a dilemma because now our condo board negotiated internet into our condo fees and now in addition to cable tv we also get 1gbps Rogers ignite included. I have decided to install the internet for now and run both Rogers and bell to compare, but was wondering what do you think? I’m just worried about reliability. Even though the speeds are way different but Rogers I have heard those speeds fluctuate.
@TechMixr
@TechMixr 2 года назад
I honestly believe that fluctuation is going to solely depend on how good the cabling is into your house and also how well it is connected to the Rogers boxes on the street. In my experience, the only fluctuation for me when I was on Rogers was when we had bad weather (severe rainfall / heavy snowfall). That’s the issue with older coax solutions. Fibe can still cut out, but the method it’s installed with makes it unlikely. A lot of the existing coaxial cable that’s buried underground is just older. You may luck out overall. Your condo board should really consider doing Bell if they can, or, hopefully, Rogers rolls out fibre to the home in your area soon and then you could switch to that. Here’s to hoping you get some good news soon! Sorry for the lateness of this reply btw, thanks for watching!

There were three providers: Rogers, Bell, and Shaw. As of April 2023, Shaw has now been bought by Rogers. Fibre is fast until it hits the massive bottleneck: copper wiring in all non-provider electronics. Shaw and Rogers are on the node system which means a locale is divided into sections and each section is allowed a maximum number of subscribers so that the nodes do not slow down excessively to user numbers. Allegedly, Bell lines are autonomous per user so they do not have the same speed issues due to user traffic.
