Yo @TechMixr ! Can you Give me the stuff i need to buy to get my bell 3go reach the actually 3go that would be mich appreciated . Keep up the good work!
@@jonathanfuoco I did a video on this (part 2) Your mileage may vary though. Just avoid Ubiquiti stuff as it’s been documented everywhere that it doesn’t accelerate PPPoE. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iVROIfxi1oI.htmlsi=baIV3OpOAX55ICI4 Also, right after I shot this video, ASUS released a firmware update that helps with NAT acceleration in the switch control settings (under the LAN tab)- in this video I said “avoid PPPoE” - since then, PPPoE is the way to connect it using the newest ASUS firmware. Advanced DMZ will work everywhere, BUT, sometimes it just won’t stay connected and you risk doing double NAT (network address translation) which is really bad for gaming. I can’t give anymore support on this method, so again. Your mileage may vary.
Some of us have been mostly lucky. But they’re such a mess with so many questions we ask like “why” when it comes to Apple Apple: “because f**k you that’s why” 🤦🏾♂️
Why not put both ASUS routers into AP mode, disable wifi on the Bell router, but keep your wired back haul? Just upgraded from Bell Fibe 1Gbps to 3Gbps, they made me also get the Giga modem, previously had the HH4000. Purchased a TP-Link AXE11000 2-pack from Amazon (Prime Day deal), going to try to connect one to the Bell Giga Hub via CAT8 and then connect the other one via WIFI 6GHz backhaul - it's difficult for me to run wired between the two Deco units.
Yep there are lots of people that I respect as content creators and as an overally honest person myself I assume others are the same sometimes and I get the stuff and alot of times it is mediocre
@@NumberOneBlitz yeah it’s super annoying when some RU-vidrs promise the world and then you get the mentioned product to only find out they had a bias and the product is nothing spectacular.
@@TechMixr Autofocus in one of the cameras works strangely, it blurs for up to 1-2 seconds. Sometimes the exposure goes crazy, it brightens the entire frame to maximum exposure and returns to normal after 3 seconds. there was no problem before.
@@efilmowopl the focus can be adjusted, but are you in auto white balance? I’d check your sensor doesn’t need to be cleaned. I’ve seen a little spec of dust cause this in a friend’s camera and it drove him insane until he cleaned it. My 2 S5 II’s are fine (both are now updated to 3.0)
Please, please do a video, video series on the CRTC. I’d be riveted to what you have to say! I don’t find their website helpful with regards to Internet pricing, and I would like to hear about other issues as well. I just subscribed and rang the bell. Thank you for your videos, TechMixr!
Bell recently came by my area and offered $55 for the 1.5gb plan. I decided to take the offer as Rogers has been the only option for the longest time. Bell's offer was also slightly cheaper than what I am currently paying with Rogers (also a 1.5Gb plan). So this will be the first time I'll have access to FTTH. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of bridge mode. I currently use a Unifi UDR with my current Rogers setup and was planning on expanding into the Unifi ecosystem by getting an AP and POE camera. I am struggling to understand how I can bypass the Gigahub and use the UDR instead? I also realize the UDR isn't capable of 1gb speeds but I plan on upgrading at some point soon. Was wondering if anyone can chime in to help out or has had experience with this hardware already? Thanks
I know the Ubiquiti stuff doesn’t accelerate PPPoE well so the speeds aren’t great with it. Some people blame Ubiquiti, I blame Bell because PPPoE is awful. Rogers (and almost every other provider for that matter) uses DHCP which allows for a true bridge mode - PPPoE frames take a lot of CPU to process where DHCP is a cleaner way. I wish I had answers for you. Maybe someone in the comments can help you. But from what I’ve read, it’s a huge leap to get Ubiquiti stuff to cooperate and give you full speed. Maybe Bell will switch to DHCP (or even DHCPV6 if they can stop being lazy about IPV6 implementation) - sadly we have to hurry up and wait for that. Hope the service is more stable than Rogers for you (it should be)
Asus just came up with more powerful routers be98 or be98 pro it has quad core 2.6 Ghz, more powerful than your ax89x i think yours has quad core 2.2 Ghz, they also have wifi 7, they have 10g base t ethernet ports but no sfp+ cage
It’s been out for a while. To be honest - I’m only running wifi 6 at home and it’s been fine. I’ll wait until these first gen wifi 7 routers are gone and we see prices come down and better features show up. (By then, I may actually have wifi 7 devices)
Boss man i have the asus gt-ac5300 at home i believe is a wifi 5 but super powerful had it for 3 years so far no issues, i am expecting to receive my bell 3gbps next week with its gigahub, do you think my asus will be stronger than the gigahub or the gigahub will be stronger due to wifi 6E ?
So something to consider That router I don’t believe has acceleration for PPPoE- so you may barely even hit gigabit speeds with a wired client. The Homehub 4000 is a decent router, I think the gigahub is good too but I’ve heard issues with it. Going beyond wifi 5, you’ll see an improvement. But experiment. If you find you’re having issues with the ASUS, maybe remove it from the equation entirely. Also, if you’re going to use the ASUS, if you notice the speeds are really bad, you can do advanced DMZ- which can be problematic to get going the first time but you’ll get your speeds back. Unfortunately- it’s like a weird double NAT’d wannabe bridge mode. Just my 2 cents. Hope it works though!
Amen. I’m bundled with 2 phones and the reception is AWFUL. Like I actually miss Fido. I will say having 155 gigs per line shared is nice and data speeds are faster than Fido ever was ……. But it loses connectivity a lot and the call quality is AWFUL. I even have wifi calling issues on both phones in 2 separate households and based on my network, it’s definitely not my wifi. Bell needs to do better in a LOT of ways.
@@TechMixr The reception is always awful with bell, they should’ve participated in the 700 mhz auction for “rural coverage” but they decided to pass on that. Coverage is spotty whenever you walk into any building with Bell and nothing loads while it does with Fido.
@@TechMixr They offer FTTH in Scarborough yet they only go up to 50mbps. Residential ISPs other than Bell only advertise download speeds at gigabit+ and put the upload speed in the fine print. Usually capped at 50-100mbps.
Great video brother! I recently got Bell 3Gbps and wanted to bypass the hub to use my own router. Is it safe bypassing the hub and which router are you using?
Few years back, Bell started expanding in my area... never really got a good chance to join. This year I had a door knocker, happened to get 1.5gb for approximately the same price ($55) as what I was paying ($50ish) 50mb with my cable package from a 3rd party service provider. This doesn't appear to be under a ~2 year contract. The giga modem was also paid outright with a setup credit. So I guess I won't need to return it to Bell or have rental fees later in life.
Yeah they’re super aggressive in the pricing which is awesome. Hopefully you don’t get hit with fees down the road. But with the CRTC forcing them to share their networks, they have to remain competitive. Great deal you got!
Subbed. I'm going through the same thing in the Car Detailing youtube-sphere, except the opposite events. Poorly performed tests, undisclosed products (you technically have to disclose a "free product" - one you get to keep as paid promotion, as it has a monetary value), and not standing behind what would be in the best interest for the consumer. I am trying to mix a bit if Gerald Undone and Gamers Nexus into my channel now that it's monetized and some products are rolling in (which I have to disclose as paid promotion as I don't give them back).
It really is the Wild West here on RU-vid differentiating between TRUE VALUE and people who just want to win the click / appease a sponsor. I’m with you entirely. Subbed back 💪🏾🙏🏾
I followed just in time as I was getting my Bell Internet upgraded. Thank you for that insightful 'thoughts on the road' video. Please keep up the great -and very Canadian- content! Don't burn yourself out and keep it true. :)
Just an update (June 2024): I upgraded to Bell 3gb and received the Giga Hub modem. To get the B1 user ID you can get it from clicking "Internet" once logging into your modem. For the password you can do 2 ways: 1. Log into MyBell and check your services and scroll down to your Internet (or One Bill) and you shuold see a "change modem access password", click that and change it. 2. If like me Bell hasn't added the internet services to your account yet, CALL TECH SUPPORT, tell them "My technician just setup my modem but I forgot to ask for the B1 password, can you provide it" and they'll get it for you. If the person doesn't know what you're talking about (they should they're tech support) just ask be transferred to manager/supervisor and that person can definitely help you. Log into your modem before they change your password so you're on the modem screen. After they change it, click on "Internet" then you'll see on the left the B1 user ID and password, click "change" and enter the new password the support gives you then click connect. Your status will go from "down" to "up" and you'll be connected again. Then follow the rest of TechMixr's instructions to setup PPPoE with Asus. Just remember to CHANGE YOUR B1 PASSWORD TO SOMETHING SECURE LATER ONCE THE SERVICE IS ADDED TO YOUR ACCOUNT. I came back to this video to re-setup my Asus mesh network lol Ok bye
Appreciate this a lot. Maybe I’ll earn more subs based on total honesty. I will take sponsorships, but sponsors I actually believe in. Want to keep it super transparent here 👌🏾💪🏾🙏🏾
I waited and bought the Panasonic S5IIX and sold it because the autofocus was not reliable enough. I had to reshoot several times to get a professional result. I finally bought a ZV-E1 and I no longer have any focusing problems. On principle and since Gerald Undone's video, I no longer trust RU-vidrs because of the conflict of interest with the manufacturers and the lack of respect for their audience.
This is THE REASON I made this video. I want my audience to trust me. Just because a brand throws money / products / opportunities at me, shouldn't mean that I compromise the value. Which is the viewer watching. (You know I agree with you given the first 6 seconds of this video 😂) My thought is that, the MOMENT I take sponsorships, I'm going to get lumped in with creators who aren't the most forthcoming about their actual experience- or even worse, the ones who don't disclose correctly their relationship with the brand. So I made this video hoping to make it abundantly clear that I'm going to do my absolute best to keep it 100% in my content. Appreciate your honesty.
Fired up.100k may drop the bucket of my investment rant in 2 years w no return on YT. Thought 🎉 🤮def could relate on whatz good n false.im def gonna 🤮if i try to tell the story on video if i can😀Thank You
I hardly, if ever, comment on videos. But I really like this decision on your part. It is honourable and a huge step in the right direction. And you're 100% right when you say "if you're just good at what you do and you just try to put your best into it and make good content it will work and it will take time, but you'll get there". I believe you will make it big and there will come a time where people will be able to blindly take your word for a product when it has your "Seal of Approval (TM)". Hope that comes for you soon!
So fun fact ….. I don’t expect this video to do well in terms of metrics. But I said to myself: “If even one person can understand and empathize with this video, goal achieved” The fact that you don’t comment on videos typically made this comment extra special. I appreciate you and the sentiment. Thank you so much ❤️🙏🏾
You're gonna make it big on RU-vid. Good choice on taking this more seriously and I am honoured to know you and to see this grow in real time. Thanks for the honesty as well.
FYI, my suspicion is that the hub uses a realtek r8125 or derived chipset for the 2.5GB/s driver. This behavior is really common with those devices and also manifests on Linux drivers for USB dongles that use this. I am not sure if the problem also occurs on windows boxes at all, but at least for Linux and MacOS, 1.1GB up, and 2.5GB down is about as good as you can do with the hardware and heat envelope.
I would agree,.... except I can sustain 2.5 gigabit within the local network at home and there's no throttling whatsoever. I was able to send 300 gigs of data within my network from one computer to another at 285 megabytes a second (sustained) which is around 2280 without issue. The hub didn't get hot at all. And the fact that even after stressing the hub on the 2012 Macbook Pro, the Ookla Speedtest could still achieve 2300 on the upload side invalidates this as a hub issue. It's most likely some weird Apple driver issue with newer MacOS versions. Also, I tried this on my 2020 Macbook Pro (the DJ computer with the Intel i9 running MacOS Ventura) with the same results, so that rules out Apple Silicon being an issue.
I was just testing the network speeds from my MBP with the M2 and I've been dealing with inconsistent uploads as well. My thought is that when the changed to the arm architecture that the drivers for that iteration of the network controller are at fault for this. Good video.
Unfortunately I wish this was the case. I have a 2020 i9 MacBook Pro. (The DJ computer). The hub behaves exactly the same on that machine as well. (It’s running Ventura where the M3 Max is obviously on Sonoma as it shipped with it)- it’s the one thing I forgot to mention in the video. You are right that it’s probably driver related, but it’s the same story on both Intel and Apple silicon in my experience. I find it hilarious that the 2012 beats both of them 🤦🏾♂️ Thank you so much for the compliment.
I’m going to respectfully disagree 😂 There is a LOT it does well- not to say your preference is wrong, but different things for different people. I spend a lot of time in terminal and I find a lot of things work for my workflow better with it- even without using terminal. Some can say the same about any OS, it’s really personal preference. Not an Apple apologist by any means because they do things that annoy me, but the things they get right are outstanding. Going from something like Windows has a huge amount of friction to overcome, so I get the opinion.
