Great vid and argument with the break down of price! Despite knowing the wear & tear this type of equipment will suffer, it is still unacceptable for the finish issues you displayed on any NEW equipment, IMO. We’ve seen better finishes from refurbished plates all over the net, so this should not leave their warehouse looking like that.

Always trust a company way more when they do not offer 35’s with their bundles and even more so if they don’t offer them at all. 😀

To add on to the value of the rogue deep dish plates, I saved shipping costs by driving all the way to Ohio from NC in my VW Passat and picked up all 710lbs of plates, gas costed me less than 100bucks for the 16hour round trip. If I lived in Texas still I’d still take the drive, traveling is so worth it when it comes to big purchases

At least they are better from those grey plates. The deep dish set is nice! All smaller plates have the three spoke like the bigger plates.

For me because I’m Canadian my best and most realistic choice if I were to order plates would be Bells of Steel regardless of blemishes. It ridiculous how expensive rogue is in Canada with the exchange rate, shipping etc.

I am building my bedroom gym and just got a 175lbs set from Strength Co. Bells of Steele and Rougue Deep dish were out of stock / limited availability but were actually more expensive with shipping to southern california, especially Rogue (they were not even in the ballpark), so a no brainer for me to go with Strength Co.

I purchased plates from the strength company and could not be happier. Glad I spent the extra cash on a quality American made product that supports a veteran owned company. Great video as always

That grease stain looking area would drive me crazy. Hopefully they can tweak their manufacturing to fix those issues. That said, I’m taking strength Co plates or THE Rogue Deep Dishes over these every day of the week.

I recently purchased new plates after 20 years of my rusty ones. I looked at these but went with Rogue Deep Dish, goes with my vintage gym theme, picked up 100's as well so no problems with fitting enough weight.

Yeah looks like the StrengthCo Shipping has gone up a little. When I bought mine when they first had east coast shipping it was $221 for a pair of 45s to TN but today it’s $240.99 looks the shipping cost has went back up about $20. But thats still much better than 2020 when the shipping from California only was actually more than the plates

Bells of steel have a good pulley system for your power racks if you need one for pull downs or tricep stuff.

’m just now creating a home gym out of years in the gym,and I’ve spent the last probably 25 hours in four days researching just plates. I am very OCD and wanted accuracy more than anything. I had been leaning from rogue, Rep fitness, the strength, co, York, Bells of steel and a few others. I’m at the point now where I’m just overwhelmed and frustrated and I’m actually going to start leaning towards Cap plates or other low budget. I figure with my budget I’m going to only end up being able to afford maybe 175 pounds worth from either of the above companies. This is going to put a negative association with trying to increase my lifts by realizing I’m going to have to buy more plates of the same brand later on and just cannot justify these prices at this point. I think what I’m gonna do now is invest in a digital scale, and just go to local sporting goods places and weigh each weight out from 45’s,25’s,15’s,10’s and 5’s and buy the ones that are the most accurate in pairs. If the finish starts to come off in a later date, I think I’d rather invest in some decent spray paint. Anyway, this is more of a rant, and I just needed to vent. The difference I think that I will save, I’m going with cheap we will be. I can increase my budget for the bar.

Funny part of this is Bellsofsteel charge for shipping in Canada … they actually come out more expensive than rogue USA made Olympic plates with shipping charge. I contacted them about this and no response yet.

if you were buying multiple 45s at the same time, wouldn’t it be cheaper to purchase StrengthCo or Rogue? Unless I’m mistaken but the shipping cost won’t change and will be more distributed across the cost of the weights.

My e coat Rogue DD are already showing wear, in the spots where the plates touch each other. Solid ring from 25s and 10s on the 45s. Luckily most of my DD are BY, which is a great deal. And I don’t feel bad since they arrived with character already.

Pretty much the only good thing about living in Indiana is the BOS American headquarters and the $0.68 per pound pickup discount. Unfortunately these plates have been out of stock for at least 3 months. I was lucky enough to get 4 pairs of 45’s when they first came out. One of them had the scratched out number on it as well. But for the price after the discount, was still quite a bargain.

I started changing over to the strength co plates little by little. I can get these plates CRAZY discounted since I live in Indiana, so it's verrrrry tempting....

Yup, definitely agree with your opinion to pay a tiny bit more for the Strength Co plates. I would definitely like to see a full candy line-up of the different plates. Loves you second appearance on the Massenomics podcast, was like listening to 3 buddies busitng chops...reminded me of me and my silly goose crew.

Hate to say this since you're not a fan but Titan black grip plates are $180 before tax for 45s and $200 for 55s and look like a great value in this field. I know it's titan but they're rubber coated and are looking attractive at that price point.

It’s insane how many people are for this. And “happy” to pay this much tax.

My boneyard 45’s have less blemishes than these and were shipped to Illinois for about $185 a pair.

For a crossover what would you choose between Rogue CC1 and Elitefts custom functional trainer? Both have a 250lbs weight stack. Rogue has 11 gauge steel, elitefts 7 gauge steel. Excluding the low rows and other things, just the cross over, which one would you choose?

I would be mad if they sent me that garbage. I would bet that mark on the back was grease pen written on the steal. I use to see it all the time in my friends welding shop in bare steal. Its how they mark it. Then the wax was just wiped and not cleaned properly so the paint adhesion is poor at that spot. I wouldnt be surprised in a few years if those spots started to lift. I owned a body shop for many years and that would be a huge issue in automotive finishes.

It’s a shame as I feel they may have largely considered e coat after your review on the originals! I will run the numbers to compare for Canadian pricing. Might make a difference here as shipping is ASStronomical for at least rogue and strengthco, getting their plates here.
