Yes. And nearly every trainer is prepared to jump on the ice in such an event, play be damned. Ray Berellie, the Blues trainer, has done this a couple times this year in the middle of a play to help a player off the ice and help them ASAP. But that didn’t stop the play. The refs didn’t blow the play dead just because a guy got hurt. And I find it weird that so many people are focusing on the goal being disallowed, rather than actually getting Bish the medical help that he apparently didn’t need.

@@disapprovingcosby If you move a certain way, the chest pad may not cover the collarbone for a second. So he may have received a slapshot on the collarbone with zero protection. It can hurt a lot, more than a slapshot on a shin, even with the padding on. All in all, I'm surprised that the refs let the play go on, considering how close to the neck it was. How could they be sure it wasn't a serious injury?

People overreacted too much about it. It looked bad but the guys fine. He stayed in the game. Let in another goal. Then said after the game that he was fine. The NHL should implement a radar behind the net, or in the net, to register speed of a shot. Like they do in the MLB, but only if it goes over 95 or something. I’m always curious to know, especially a one timer.
@pigs6486
@pigs6486 5 лет назад
I’ve been complaining about this for some years now. Absolutely need a “stat-cast” on slappers and hits and even players skating. On replays (not even challenges, just simple tv replays) we need to have a gps tracker thing in the puck so when it’s covered, you can figure out exactly where it is or see the flight path so we can see the puck’s line and every ricochet and who it exactly it deflected off. Kinda similar to the ball trackers in golf. I don’t understand why tennis has the best replay system. We love that tennis ball shadow graphic...
@BigBudduh
@BigBudduh 5 лет назад
@@pigs6486 Damn homie, I mean you didn't have to one-up me that much lmao. The stat-cast option is exactly what I was talking about; and the hits, and player speed I honestly didn't think about but completely on board and could help with the popularity of the sport. On top of that, thank you for bringing another topic to the light. Although I don't think it's necessarily as important as the "stat-cast", it could help with determining goals/assist on plays where there is multiple deflections in front of the net. Not to mention viewer quality especially to people who don't really follow the game as die-hard. 100% agree, as long the "tracking" of the puck (the second part of your statement) is not revertible after the call is made. ie Puck may have been loose but whistled dead but than scored.

Just because it's a rule it doesn't make it right. Bishop can do nothing to stop that puck, giving the Blues an unfair advantage. It is not Bishop's fault he got injured and by not stopping the play the ref is basically saying you and your team should be punished for something that isn't your fault. Not to mention it's in the playoffs with the stars 3-2 up in the series. They ended up losing the game meaning the series is tied. I understand not stopping the play with skaters but there has to be more leeway with goalies

Dead Man's Revenge actually in the case of a goalie being injured they are supposed to blow the call anytime the puck is in the offensive/defensive zone. Not a blues or stars fan but that goal should have not counted, that's really dumb why the play wasn't blown dead immediately when a goalie goes down like that. How ironic is it that a goalie can be brushed in the slightest way, not enough to even affect him from saving the damn puck but... NO GOAL! GOALIE INTERFERENCE! But when a goalie gets hit by a 90mph puck in the collarbone/neck area, goes down in an insane moment of pain and actually can't do anything to stop the puck at that moment and it's a good goal?! That's a joke.

And this is why an NHL goaltender is the most difficult position in all of sports. It takes a level of talent that is not seen in any other positions in any other SPORTS. As a former goalie that played at a professional level and having been drilled in the exact same spot, I can say that is a pain that just sucks the energy out of you. There are spots on goalies that aren't as well protected as others. When you get stung in one of these areas it can take awhile to recover. Especially when your adrenaline is pumping and you're doing well. A shot like that can kill your energy and momentum.

He was fine and stayed in the game. The ref saw it and decided in the few seconds that it wasn't life threatening. If the Stars had picked up the rebound and had a 2-1 or breakaway to go for the equalizing goal and the refs blew it dead for "player safety," the Stars fans would have rioted.

No reason they couldn't add a rule to insure that the player is injured. Say, if the injury happens before the 10:00 mark of the period, you can't play the rest of that period. If after, you can't play that period or the next. That way, if you fake it, you can miss close to 30:00 of game time. Few teams would benefit from going to their backup for that long just to take away possession/momentum.

@Rageof4wa
@Rageof4wa 5 лет назад
@Toronto Marlies You are correct that he is a player, however, you are incorrect that play has to stop. Play will stop if your team gets possession or the puck is cleared from your defensive zone. As a goalie, if his mask would have come loose play would have stopped as well. The third way play could have been stopped is if the referee would have determined that it was a serious injury. None of those were the case, so play went on and the Blues scored. You could argue that it was a serious injury but he stayed in the game for a little bit and the Stars coach said after the game he was fine.

Fleury Literally every single player in NHL history has been tagged from a rocket slap shot. It’s literally a strategy, crush bombs from the point and make people think about if they want to get in front of one of those again or not. No different with a goalie, play doesn’t stop until your team controls the puck. And it’s one of the single beauties of hockey. Seeing a guy drop his gloves and limp to the bench on one skate as quick as possible is what separates this sport from every other team sport. Hustling off is the ultimate tough guy thing to do. Ian Broadwater it’s the right call. Refs discretion, if they believe it’s a life threatening or dangerous injury they can blow it dead immediately. They decided it wasn’t. Blues maintained possession of the puck, therefore it’s not blown dead until the stars possess the puck. If Bishops helmet woulda came off, it’s an immediate whistle, but it didn’t. It’s the NHL. Players get hurt all the time, which leads to outcomes that certain fans don’t like. Goalies are not exempt from that. If the injury had been such that he needed immediate medical attention to save his life or if his gear had been compromised to the point where he risked further injury by allowing the play to continue, then the play may be blown dead. Bishop’s gear was fine, he wasn’t in mortal danger, he was just in pain, which is part of the game. This kind of thing happens a lot when a goalie tweaks a hamstring and no one seems to care, but because he got hit by a puck people suddenly think he deserves to have a stoppage of play and deny the offense an opportunity that they’ve earned.
