@@JonO387 What needs explaining? That Adam is a seriously good actor? Or the script he got for Kylo was utter garbage, and could have been *so* much more?
@@exodustimes4266 Agreed, or at least consulted with the George. Problem is, these ultra-woke folk are so arrogant in their execution of their ideals that it overshadows everything else. The actual story and original context is irrelevant to them.
Adam Driver portrays Ben pretty much flawlessly, he is so clearly the son of Han, his gestures, movement, and attitude are spot on. Wish they didnt kill off the one promising thing for this trilogy.
It has been both Rey and Ben's trilogy. I'm referring to Rian Johnson who said that both Rey and Ben are two halves of the protagonist. Made sense since TFA opens with Kylo Ren.
@@hezomelo956 nothing wrong with a redemption story, happened with Darth Vader in the end, the major problem with the new trilogy is the writing, the second film rail roaded the trilogy so hard that the third films pandering (even if this is kinda what they always intended) was not only lost, but it wasn't set up all that well (so much of what happens in this film, force fed to you in that film itself, rather than having well thought out plot points dropped in previous films that were properly built upon). This film is the very definition of damage control. Why Kathleen Kennedy still has a job at Disney, after fucking up a multi billion dollar franchise that could have made wayyyyyy more money for Disney, boggles the mind.
No, that would have been a terrible end for Rey, whose establishing character moment is that she won't let BB8 be hurt even though she's only just met him. It would have just been Daenerys and the bells again. Besides which, Ben rose as a Skywalker when he chose to fight Palpatine, and Rey is a real Skywalker because Luke, Leia and Han were like family to her.
Lets take a moment to appreciate the paraells between Ben Solo and his father. They both shoot a trooper over the shoulder without looking. And both shrug in the face of danger all cocky like. I love it.
Adam Driver did a really good job capturing that patented "Solo cockiness" that makes the family so much fun. I think he would've made a really good Jacen Solo.
One thing about this scene I love that many don't notice is that Ben Solo is fighting so much more clearly and with more finess because he's no longer being held back by the conflict. He's finally free of his pain. The Sith always talked about having their chains broken by the only chains Kylo ever broke were the one's the Sith used to hold him down
The breath that Ben takes at 4:35 shows he is calming his emotions during the fight, before his anger would take over. Sad we didn't get to see more of his turn to the light.
Wish he was the one who defeated Palpatine and finishing what his grandfather ended for good this time. He's the Skywalker we've been looking for but didn't deserve. Feels a bit tragic someone with the blood of Palpatine and heir to the throne of the Sith was the one to do it. Rey should've been the one Palpatine threw at the void wherever Ben was thrown into.
Yeah, but its pretty stupid they killed him. His redemption arc isnt very satisfying because this man has done some truly hideous shit. They shouldve made him live and make him suffer the consequences of his actions. Like they couldve shown him burying the lightsabers of his family, redeeming the skywalker legacy, and building a new Jedi Order
This trilogy was lucky to be blessed with Adam Driver. He carries the whole thing on his back. I love the difference in his body language and facial expressions as Ben Solo compared to Kylo Ren. He just seems so much more free and considerate. It's because he is focused on his goal - to be at Rey's side.
That was fear. They were his personal guard when he was Kylo Ren, and knew what he could do with a lightsaber. They showed him respect at the beginning of the fight when he was unarmed, disgust when they were giving him the beating and fear when they realised that their former boss had a weapon that he was highly skilled at using, and a reason to fight them until one side was dead.
The way Bens style totally changed from when he was Kylo. As Kylo he struck with anger and rushed blows. As ben, he swings it around, just like his grandfather.
Instead of having Rey be a Palpatine, we get Ben do a shrug like his dad. When they turn to face Palpatine imagine we get to see Rey go into an Obi Wan Kenobi stance with the two wingers out. Ugh. So much potential.
I really enjoyed this scene. I liked that we got to spend a couple minutes with Han and Leia's son. Those were our two characters! We watched them almost die in the original trilogy so many times, but here is the proof that they won and had enough peace and time to start a family! He's a little awkward, a little cocky, a bit haunted, but utterly unapologetic and very very brave. Everything a Solo/Skywalker needed to be.
Honestly the shot I loved was when she is about to strike palpatine and then she sees Ben. The acting so good u see the slight change in her demeanor from uncertainty and fear to hope. And Ben’s smile of encouragement
@@simaopinto8521 On the fight on the ship in rise of the skywalker, Kyli had his lightsaber above his head to strike (Leaving his full open sides) and REY AIMED FOR HIS LIGHTSABER, only 0.1% of the star wars community likes rey, and thats generous. Even Mark Hamill (actor of luke) hates rey proof everywhere just search it.
Ben embraces Skywalker and solo Solo: running around one-shoting troopers to save his friends Skywalker: sprinting into battle with little to no plan to help his friends
I know that people don’t like the fact that “ow” is Ben’s only line. But it is kind of cool to hear his voice, especially because he sounds like Han Solo. He definitely does not sound like Kylo. Would Kylo even say “ow”??
Rubberhand that's just not true. KK had litteraly barely anything to do with this movie. Bob Iger got JJ in behind her back and then JJ refused to work with the Lucasfilm Storygroup. We know from Freddie Prinze JR that Dave Filloni is the one who got most of the jedi voice's into that scene. I don't like KK but fs i can admit when something wasn't her fault
@@jackcampbell7898 everything I said has been confirmed. KK is the reason most of the movie had to be reshoot because she didn't agree with the direction the original script was going to take.
niceviewer ugh. Okay. He said Ow, because he does not have his hate to stop the pain from being so potent. So say this then, if chewie shot Ben with his bowcaster at this very second, Ben would more than likely die. As Star Wars is, hate is a hard thing to kill. Like how Anakin lost three limbs and burned annnd crawled up a small hill of burnt ash. He didn’t die because of his hate.
I don't wanna sound like a 60 year old boomer but Rey isn't skilled in anything tbh. She's a Mary sue who is blessed by Disney to have broken amounts of strength without any training/ experience. On the other hand, it makes sense for Kylo to be skilled since he's literally the descendant of the Skywalker bloodline + he has done training before as well. I would say that Kylo >> in terms of both force and actual duelling.
I have a few counter arguments here. 1. Rey IS somewhat trained in the force. Not only does she naturally have a strong bloodline for starters but she has read the jedi book and been trained a by Leia off screen in matters of the Force itself. However Leia could NOT provide Jedi combat training. Only force related things which is why she's so much better at the Force part than combat. 2. A mary sue is "a type of female character who is depicted as unrealistically lacking in flaws or weaknesses." Rey consistently shows weakness. Even as the main protagonist she has found herself both captured and defeated countless times. She lost her 1v1 vs Kylo and failed to protect Finn the first time around. She would have been in trouble with Snoke if not for Ben. She would have been hunted by Kylo successfully if not for Lukes sacrifice. She would have lost the second duel vs Ben had Leia not distracted him. And she would of fulfilled the emperors plans if Ben had not been there. She consistently displayed a lack of fighting skill that was force driven but still unpolished compared to people like Kylo/Ben on screen. And she never pulled off any crazy force feats like Leia or Luke either. Explain to me in detail her "broken amount of strength". Because from where I stand most force sensitive people can at the very least without training use it to run from people or defend themselves in a retreating manner to which she did often at first prior to meeting Leia. If how she acted makes her a mary sue then by default any force sensitive person who uses the force to accomplish any task without training is a mary sue. Which would be a dumb claim.
@@milkshakeguru7118 adding on to this, the fight between her and Ben on the Death Star wreckage clearly showcases who the superior duellist is. For the first little bit, Ben doesn’t even have his lightsaber drawn; he’s essentially just toying with Rey. He continues to do so until Leia’s death breaks his concentration. Likewise, Rey’s strength with the Force is showcased here. A trooper fires a shot at her; she uses the Force to hit him with it, rip it out, and kill a second trooper. Her entire form is based on constantly using the Force.
@@Judge-1964 Tbh she will probably have proper saber training post her initial trilogy. I saw the rumor they want her back in a teacher like role. Which makes sense givin her last ending. She's going to have to speak to a lot of ghosts and read a lot of books to train herself but it's possible lol.
3 best scenes from each movie (IMO) - Ben betraying and killing Han - Ben’s “duel” with Luke - this scene Notice how Ben is in all of them and not Rey lol
Jovalin he just shouldn’t have waited until the last movie of this trilogy to turn good. Imagine if he had switched to the good side in episode 8, then both he and Rey could have had all of episodes 9 to defeat the dark side.
@Dragongamer 7 It was on the Death Star remains during his fight with Rey. He halted, having heard Leia's voice then Rey stabbed him. Then they both felt the Force shudder and they both knew Leia was gone. So, it was Rey's last meeting with him before this part.
I like how he scored the Force leap at 4:41 too, reminds me of Hook haha, makes Ben feel like Peter Pan. Brings out his youthful and lighter rebellious spirit.
@@joeisnothome Nah it's still in minor, it's just decorated differently, starting with the original instrumentation, then repeated on strings and woodwinds for a less villainous sound
1:49 I actually like that shot. A TIE Fighter and an X-Wing parked up next to each other, a sight I don't think we've ever seen. Old enemies with serious history becoming allies. The X-Wing is Luke's, and the TIE is from the Death Star II wreckage.
Better Ending: Rey and Ben defeat Palpatine, together. Rey wants Ben to join her to rebuild the Jedi but Ben fears that the darkness still out there in the Universe and in him, leaves to atone for his sins by seeking out and destroying that darkness using their own dark powers against them as the first "Grey" Jedi since Mace Windu. Hell, there could have been another trilogy or maybe even a television miniseries/series. A merciless Ben Solo protecting the Light with the Darkness within as he struggles to prove to himself that he was indeed worthy of redemption. Would have been pure gold IMHO.
make him go to ach to probably talk to his anceators there rey insisting he kept his grandfathers lightsaber as a reminder of the good man his grandfather was and how many lives he saved with that weapon. also would be a nice touch to rey saying you were right back then. this lightsaber belongs to you.
I don’t think people realize is how similar Ben is to his father. Like okay with a light saber he is his grandfather’s grandchild but Han is all over him the shooting behind his back without looking and the little movement he does with his arms after he brings out the light saber out know where is great.
One thing we never got to see is an antagonist having a redemption arc and then living with the consequences of their actions, Ben should have lived, would have been fascinating
or a better ending is Ben lives, but they both no Ben can never be redeemed by others he caused so much harm too , so he goes off to live in exile but Rey goes with him because she spent her entire existence trying to find her place in the universe waiting for her family to return so instead she goes to start her own. then the whole "Rey Skywalker' thing makes at least some sense since she is going to marry someone who actually has skywalker blood in him. the movie would end with them going to tatooine burying the sabers then they both look into the twinsunset on tatooine with john williams score it wouldnt have fixed the sequels but it wouldve at least been a satisfying ending rather than a bittersweet one
I think I would’ve been interesting and better if it ended before Ben transferred life into Rey. She avenged her parents and killed off the palpatine bloodline (sacrificing herself in the process).
@@greenkidd529 the more i look at the sequels. The more i realize that even if they're very flawed. They are still somewhat enjoyable (effects, scenery, details)
3:42 - you can see how stiff and afraid Rey is by looking at her neck, as soon as she sees Ben you literally see her entire neck relax...just thought that was a nice detail.
He fights so much better & cleaner as a Jedi. Almost like when he was Kylo Ren he wasn’t just fighting his enemy in combat but also himself. Like it literally looks that way in comparing the two
@@vintagescvrlet Reminded me of Padme dying. She's medically fine but just seemed to keel over. Fanon for years has been that her life force was used to save Anakin as he became Vader.

@@sarag6251 *ACTING* chemistry. Get that in your head. It is a thing people talk about when talking about movies. It means they are interesting to watch together.
This is my favorite video rn!! I love how Ben comes to help Rey when she is all alone in the darkest place she's ever been and he ultimately saves her life This is just awesome!!
Even though they get man handled right after, the shot of them raising The skywalker saber and Lea’s together makes me happy. Say what you will about the trilogy, but Rey and Bens relationship was definitely the best part
The bond between Rey and Kylo really is the heart and soul of this trilogy. Despite all of the directorial disagreements and narrative flaws, this is the one element that remains strong throughout. Almost all of the credit goes to the actors.
Yup. I hated many things about this trilogy...especially the way they treated Luke. The way they wasted Fynn, Poe, and Rose's character potentials. Even the way they handled Leia at times was awkward. But the last remnant of Star Wars's heart survived within Rey and Ben. They were the only thing about this trilogy that felt like Star Wars. Star Wars is about family, love, light, dark, and spirituality. All of these things can be found within these two characters. Is it a bit clunky at times? Sure. But regardless of how I feel about the rest of the trilogy, the bond between these two allows me to think a little more fondly of the Sequels.
Indeed. It is beautiful. I also feel Ben will return. They're not going to waste awesome like this and....I confess....they make both a cute and badass Battle-Couple. --- I realize that Ben had to die (temporarily) if you consider all the crap he pulled as Kylo. However, he can still return. He wasn't even among the Force Ghosts in the end and Exegol is a HUGE World Between Worlds portal. --- Nope; He's in the WBW and I have a hunch that he will emerge out of the Force Cave on Ach-To. I think Rey went straight to Ach-To after the last scene on Tatooine, will enter the cave, Ben comes out of that mirror-wall and the two start the new successor to The Jedi Order. Finn will probably be one of their first students.
If Ben was the main character at the end of this trilogy he truly would’ve been the rise of Skywalker and has his own cool lightsaber at the end that wasn’t red
He's a Solo though. It would make no sense for him to take the skywalker name after the episode already showed him loving his father. It is rather odd Rey went with skywalker though as she was closer to both Han and Ben, both Solo's, and Leia, who still answers to Organa. I understand it's for the sake of closure on the skywalker saga. But rey taking on the name Solo would have made most sense, followed by Organa. Or just keeping Palpatine, and turning it into a name of light and inspiration. An amazing final mockery of the last sith.
Would’ve been cooler if the knights only answered to Ben, so when they walked out towards ben, one of them could’ve said something like “We follow you, Ren.” Then Palpatine ends up killing all of them, one by one, so that only Ben remains.
Indeed, at that moment Ben viewed them as his faithful brothers in arms since he became their master. The knights were hyped for an epic battle we never got to see. The knights versus Palp' guards and at the end using all of their power against Palps who kills them one by one would be more fitting I believe
At 4:57 it's crazy how much Ben Solo looks like Anakin. Also, I really wish Rey would have been a Kenobi. Imagine: A Kenobi and a Skywalker both standing together to finally defeat the very evil that tore their families apart. Oh well :(
The music is just incredible. The way John Williams changed the "Bad Guy" Kylo theme into the soaring, heroic "good guy" Ben Solo theme is so simple and subtle, but so impactful. I miss Ben Solo and always will - can't wait for him to come back!
I don’t like how people hate on this movie… it may not be the best, but it certainly had its moments. This scene went from possibly the end of the resistance and the eternal reign of the dark side, to Kyle Ren going “well, now I have my lightsaber, and the dark side is going down”!!!!! Awesome
There are scenes that were good But Ben & Rey should have fought Palpatine together also Ben should have lived There are alot of other things that I hate but Ben's death is just the final nail in the coffin And ofcourse killing all the stormtroopers 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I didn't particularly enjoy this movie but Adam Driver's scenes allowed me to leave the theatre without feeling as though I had completely wasted my time.
Memetastic Vondank no there is not since everyone here knows the truth the movie really was great because of Ben/Kylo indeed the story was very predictable and somtimes a bit cringy but other then that I enjoyed it
Adam Driver was absolutely EVERYTHING in this trilogy. I will NEVER fathom the death of the most popular character in this trilogy. Oh and don't get me started about the last Skywalker thing. I will never get over it. I want Ben Solo back STAT!
his death wasn't in vain. he wouldn't really be good as the last jedi since everyone hated him, no one would believe hes ben solo again. so it makes sense rey is the last jedi
Ben died to save his lover, which Anakin failed to do. If he didn’t bring her back to life, it would be selfishness and would make the Skywalker legacy feel incomplete. And his sacrifice marked the end for the Skywalker family as it’s now complete, which Rey brought back again as she decided to choose her own path.
The moment they reconnect through the force dyad and you see the relief and disbelief in her face as she looks at him. You could tell she was scared. Afraid and alone. But when she saw him the look she gave him was so soft. Loving. She feels safe. Like it’ll all be okay. He came all this way for her. To save her. Even if he knew they wouldn’t live through this at least they’d be together. At least he could spend his final moments with her, and her knowing she was right about him. Two that are one. You know he wish he would’ve made this choice to be with her sooner.
This is exactly it! I don’t know why people were so against them as a pairing romantically or not. Their chemistry was amazing. Everybody who said this pairing was out of place clearly hasn’t got any attention to detail their connection was so clear in the two films before this one. I wasn’t shocked at all by the kiss at the end either
Me duele volver a ver esta escena. Pensar que si lo dejaban vivo, ahora estariamos soñando de otra manera. 😢 Necesitaba ese tipo de redención. El sacrificio ya lo habian realizado otros, él merecía vivir.
If they were insistent on killing anyone it should’ve been Rey. Either way, Ben should’ve lived. If the story was more centred around him than it was, we may have ended up with a very different trilogy. Thank you Adam Driver for delivering the best character of the sequel trilogy by far.
rey felt so stiff and contrived .. and I didn't care for kylo but ben solo is a different deal ... they wasted a great character . I know they have a plant o kind bring him back but .. what a waste .
@@Ninjacob00 I read that they plan to have the wills bring him back to life in the upcoming animated series .. temporarily so he can help rey build a new academy
I've fallen in love with Ben Solo's theme. If you didn't know, it's the whole theme playing since about Ben arrives on Exegol to when Ben and Rey see each other again in front of Palpatine. The theme where Ben and Rey physically stand in front of each other, which has elements of their respective themes playing, first Ben than Rey, was recently stylized by Samuel Kim. It's all very beautiful.

It was the only part of this new trilogy I even enjoyed. Finally, someone expressed something that made direct, correlated sense to the preceding cause. AND it was in character.
2:46 it should have been "We stand behind you boss, to the end." the Knights of Ren vs Palpatine's Royal Guards. Would have been a great action sequence and a test to true loyalty.

Cronic nah, jedi anakin (young vader) is not as good as Jedi Ben overall, sure in terms of sheer force and technique, anakin is way better, but anakin never masted a cool head, as obi-wan have proved a clear head during battle is crucial, but I don’t think anakin ever went into a battle with the clearest mind as he was constantly troubled by the dark side from his trauma and hatred, partly contributed to the fact that he was not a great Jedi to begin with, Jedi ben however, corrected by Han and leia, have solid aim, he knew exactly what he needs to do. Mature Vader however, it’s a completely different story, with his suit made to save him as quick as possible(not for combat, nor mobility, nor comfort), his battle ability were dramatically decreased due to the weight of the suit at the beginning, but because of that and the constant pain the suit brought, it allowed his dark force ability to grow even stronger, hence makes up the lost in fast hand to hand combat. And obviously Vader have a cool head until his son show up, as he thought he got nothing more to lose With mature Vader, all the people in that building could be choked to death in a matter of second

One thing I just noticed : Imagine if Rey and Ben somehow split Anakin's saber hence representing the duo faces of the chosen one : Both Palpatine's side of dark turning good and Luke's side of good going evil, and fundamentally both staying on the pure side.
Things everybody can love about this movie: - Adam Driver (people hate these movies say Kylo Ren was their favorite) - Ian McDiarmid hamming it up as Palpatine. (people like I, who hate the idea itself still like the performance)
Ben makes for a much better hero vs being the villain. This trilogy could have been epic with the right story, better writing and better characters inserted.
I love these scenes of both Rey and Ben. When they look at each other then hold up the light sabers in unison is one of my favourite scenes. Well I have a lot of favourite scenes Bens shrug/the owe/ the inhale of air etc etc etc.
I know the whole idea of "redeem the bad guy and kill them off in doing so" is RotJ inspired, but 1., the action and visuals bring it to a whole new level: and 2, apart from Force Ghost we don't really see Anakin in RotJ (ultimately it was Vader saving his son), but we DO see Ben Solo in action here for the first and only time.
I love how in Episode 7 Kylo ren said "I will finish what you started" to Darth Vader, who only wanted to save the one he loves from certain death. Well Ben Solo/Kylo Ren actually did finish what he started as he saved Rey from certain death. Beautiful ending of an arc.
you got that "i will finish what you started" scene backward. He wanted to finish what vader started by completely wiping out all the jedi and destroying the remnants of the light. Not because he wanted to save rey. He felt nothing towards her during the time of using the mask as a coping mechanism
