Economics in One Lesson is a must read. It should be required reading in school. Very good book. Anyone getting into economics/politics NEEDS to read that. Its a great beginner book. Laymans terms nothing complex. Quick short straight to the point. The other book he talked about, basic economics is amazing as well. 1 of the best. True, its longer at around 400 pages but its in laymans terms and extremely easy to get through. Read those 2 books in that order and your foundation of economics/political knowledge will be decent. Those 2 books will get you to an intermediate knowledge of economics i would say. Maybe an advanced beginner.

Read Ludwig von Mises and understand he would be disgusted by the self-same people that use his name like Hazlitt. Not that I'm supporting Ayn Rand because her philosophies are incomplete and often a bit nutty, based on the false dichotomy of capitalism vs communism, but likewise she spawned a whole generation that she would spit on given the opportunity but fancy themselves as her disciples.

It's a great book. The fundamental premise is based on this thought experiment: "What happens when you throw a brick through a store window (?)" Well . . . the owner hires someone to clean up the glass. Right (?) And he buys a new window. Right (?) And he hires someone to install it. Right (?) So it seems that multiple jobs have been created. Great for the economy -- right (?) No. And Hazlitt demonstrates why . . .

@@QED_ that's "kitchen table economics" bs, pretending global economies function like you do. narratives like that are designed to make you feel empathy for the selfsame people that rob you blind on a daily basis. Ludwig von Mises who Hazlitt claims as mentor would call your pathetic self a "useful innocent". von Mises misquoted is where "useful idiot" comes from, and congratulations, you win.

As an American, it’s good to read the constitution and gain further understanding of your inalienable rights etc. I know it’s not a book but there’s plenty of books written about it.

@Niels Yes haha I've actually read both those books Ben talked about, economics in one lesson and basic economics. 2 great books for beginners. Amazing. If you want to learn you have to read or listen to the audiobook. Just by reading those 2 books you'll have more knowledge in economics than most college kids with bachelors in economics. It will take you to an intermediate level with only those 2.
