#benwhittaker #boxing #boxingprospect Oympic silver medalist Ben "The Surgeon" Whittaker turned pro in 2022 and currently holds a 6-0 record with 5 knockouts.
Absolutely, his style is very reminiscent of the great "Drunken Boxer", Emmanuel Augustus, more so than Prince Nazeem. And with his size and power, he may take it way further than Augustus did. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben took inspiration from Augustus.
Wym? The fighters back in augustus era had way more balls and grit. These new age divas have the technology and financial backing, but are softer. This style absolutely has a chance to carry over. Takes balls to break balls. To have this type of power and style, he can shake things up. the question is his chin.@@davidscaife4312
Nothing like Augustus, terrible style. No trainer would be dumb enough to work with anyone like that, or manager. You'd never get a fight and the fighter would never follow instructions in the corner.
I bet if someone were to test this guy's reaction time it would be ridiculous. I get the feeling he's on a different level. A friend of mine was 3 time muay thai national champ and she said everything happened in slow motion. Someone could throw a kick or punch at her and she could see the decision, the muscle flex before the arm moved. Once the arm was moving towards her, she still had time to plan a counter before she had to start thinking about dodging. She wasn't originally interested in kick boxing until she started dating a pretty serious fighter. She went to the gym with him and to humor him, spared a little. He knew immediately that she had that insanely fast hand eye, reaction time thing and convinced her to train. Besides the speed, she could take a punch. I'm over 6' and over 200lbs and she's this tiny little featherweight girl and she's telling me to go ahead and see for myself by punching her in the face as hard as i can. She sticks her chin out and closes her eyes and tries to convince me to punch her in the face as hard as i can. I don't want to hurt my hand, so i didn't do it but she promised me it wouldn't bother her. She retired undefeated because she felt so bad, messing up those girls. She sent most of them to the hospital. Broken noses, even an arm. She said it didn't seem fair because it was so easy for her to get out of the way of their punches and it seemed like they couldn't see hers coming. I watched one of her fights where she absolutley destroyed this pretty little thing and threw her aside like a bag of garbage until they stopped the fight, at which point her humanity came back and she started freaking out and apologizing to the girl.
Really admirable how after the fights, Whittaker always makes the effort to see if his opponent is alright, shows them respect and love. Assuring them that the showboating is just pure entertainment, a creative expression. Not trying to degrade them. Like a Miles Davis, Eddie Van Halen or Prince with boxing gloves. 🥊
The guy that said Emanuel Augustus is spot on ! I saw him as a kid and also saw the Prince Naseem fight they was not the same! He’s most definitely coping Emanuel Augustus.
He's still a baby in the pro game. Right now it's all about getting his name out there and entertaining the fans. He won't be fighting like this in world title fights.
Can't wait to see more of Ben Whittaker! This guy is incredible! It's scary how he just dissects his opponents piece by piece. That last clip displayed impeccable technique. He really doesn't need all the extra showmanship in the ring, even though it's entertaining. His skills is what shines in my opinion
What blew my mind was when i looked at floyds record. Floyd had a monster reach for his divisions and the only people in his WHOLE career that had more reach than him were mgregory de la and Paul, and you saw how them went. Ducked anyone with reach like lara, margarito, Khan, Williams etc its no coincidence that fighters like floyd, izzy, jj etc hugely succesful, also had huge reach advantages vs their rivals and fought a reach merchant running style. Combat sport is littered with examples of the less skilled rangier fighter using reach to jab and hug and run to wins vs the more skilled smaller fighter. Recently aj vs ruiz, went to war and aj got whooped, then in the return, aj switched to jabbing hugging and running to an easy W. Usyk was too skilled for this. Usyk is goated. Duran vs Leonard 1, went to war, duran won Duran Leonard 2, Leonard used his reach advantage to run 🏃♂ to what was gonna be an easy victory until Duran quit as he wasn't there to play tag these fighters usually have boring fights because they fights a running defensive reach merchant fight, refusing to take any risk hiding behind reach to get the W. Anderson Silva was the same, Jon jones, great against the smaller guys with 85 reach, but when fighting his own size, like reyes gustaffson etc he arguably lost Its easier to fight defensively with a huge reach advantage but its much harder funking someone up taking a few risks. Speed power timing etc can be improved but reach cannot, and it can be decisive when paired with a defensive style. Khamzat was berated by his coach for going to war instead of using his reach adv to make it an easy fight. Smaller fighter needs to be more skilled than the longer fighter to be successful, like a usyk, pac, tank, dc, canelo mike tyson etc Reach advantage combined with a safety first running style is massively overlooked. Not saying fighters should change how they fight, but that we should recognise why some fighters had the success they did. Izzy is elite, but much of his success was due to his reach advantage vs his rivals. Got outstruck by Jan on the feet, Alex landed more than izzy in their fights, one time he abandoned his safety first reach merchant style vs gastelum and nearly got KOd by a B rated fighter. This is why when these type of fighters face someone their own size, they no longer look like the GOAT striker, they end up going life and death, like jj vs reyes, gustaffson, or izzy vs jan and alex. izzy, silva, gane etc usually stay on the end of their reach, refusing to take any risk. Breaking the shorter man down from where there is no threat of retaliation, before going in for the kill. The shorter fighter has to lunge in to connect and so are at a great disadvantage. Many fighters have had the success they had largely due to this advantage they had vs their rivals. The smaller fighter needs to be more skilled than the longer fighter to overcome this, and even then, e.g with Rob vs izzy, its still very hard Thankfully for us fans, not all fighters with reach fight like this, although they would be more successful if they did but the sport would be dead Izzy said it best himself when he said Costa will be easy as he has t rex arms and won't reach😮
@@fuuf7092quite the rant of excuses. Floyd never ducked anybody, never ran from anybody. He always stood right in the face of his opponent and dared him to hit him. Nobody could catch him he moved like a cat. 50-0.
Reminds me of that cocky mug Naseem Hamed who got humbled when he faced a truly elite fighter in Barrera. This kid needs to stop that shit before he gets humbled when he steps in with an elite fighter
Ben won't be doing this against high level opposition. He basically said it himself after the fight. He said he's putting on a show to get his name out there and be entertaining. He's a good fighter. But he's still a rookie in the pro game so we feed him fighters below his level for a couple of years for some reason. Not sure why we do that here in the UK, but we do. Pad their record? Build hype? Yeah, probably that. But he is a good fighter, and he knows he is. So while he's fighting these guys well below his level he's having fun and entertaining the fans. At this point in his career Ben is all about having fun, entertaining the fans and getting his name out there.
@SR1Records that isn't entertaining, it's disrespectful and isn't going to get him any fans. At least not proper boxing fans because they don't like that showboating shit. As I said he needs to stop it, humble himself and concentrate on his craft instead so he can be better prepared for those elite fighters in the future because he does have some talent.
Protect yourself at all times, Dont emulate anyone, keep the hand glued to your face and chin keep your lead hand high. Too many killers out there today, dont waste this amazing talent. Way too much showboatng Ben. Just my opinion. Love to see a fighter from this side of the west become a boxing legend in making. All thevbest Ben. 🇮🇪🇬🇧💙
@@myfavorite997 Too much talent out there mate. Especially those Russians/former Soviet union. That style is unique, theyre so patient and their footwork is different. And hes gotta be aware of the so many switch hitters there are now. Saying that, Whittaker is a head hunting monster too..Id just love to see him become one of the best this side of the pond. 🇮🇪🇬🇧
Im sensing commonwealth level kinda potential from him. I personally don't see world level potential from him yet. He is also 26yo IIRC which is his athletic prime. The only way he becomes world champion is if he gets fast tracked and jumps up multiple levels. On the other hand, fair play to Ben, hes building his brand and bringing new eyes to the sport with his flamboyant style.

You can see and feel his natural talent. If he is not lazy, as is easy to be when it's almost effortless to perform at a high level, he could be among legends.
BEN WHITTAKER IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL CONSUMMATE 'ENTERTAINER' WHO CARRIES OUT SURGICAL PROCEDURES ON HIS PATIENTS TO THE CROWDS DELIGHT AND ENJOYS HIS WORK GREATLY CARRYING OUT THESE ESSENTIAL WORKS-!!! 🙏🏿🥊💤🥊🙏🏿
Difference is 9/10 times prince Nasseem was off balance and soon got found at top level against first class boxer he faced. BEN is 9/10 times is in control and balanced
He's skilled, he's good for boxing, hella entertaining, a fan magnet, BUT he's one punch away from being in a "When Showboating Fighters get Destroyed" compilation.
That ref doesn't need to be allowed in the ring ever again. He totally out classed the last guy and was having fun. Can't wait to see him in the US on a bigger stage and they allow him to do his thing.
People forget that the Prince never defeated any REAL top fighters with his style. Never fought Eric Morales Never fought Pacquiao Never fought Mayweather Never fought Diego Corrales Fought Barrera but lost
What a ridiculous ignorant comment, Naserm was beaten once in his whole career after destroying all before him. He got beat by a great fighter in Barrera, but the fact was, he had lost the hunger required to stay at elite level. Had he trained correctly for the Barrera fight, then it may well have been a different outcome.
Ben Whittaker est effectivement le nouveau prince naseem hamed et il va aller trés loin car il a toutes les qualités pour etre un trés grand champion et il va dominer la catégorie si il ne tombe pas face à Beterbiev qui est vieux maintenant .
The best way to beat these guys are lots of pressure and body shots. Eventually making your way up to head shots. Got to cut them off. Feetwork is key here. But hats off to him. He'll have a great career until he gets beat bad, eventually.
