Benny was one of a kind! Got to meet and interview him in 2001 when I wrote for a small newspaper. Gave me time and treated me just like one of the "big" reporters.

Benny and the broadcast team of Jenkins and Ned Jarrett is one of the keys that built Nascar Cup to what it became. They were the voice of Nascar on TV. Absolute legends. Benny was to Nascar what John Madden was to the NFL. Madden had "boom* Benny had "Look out" or " I'd hate to have my fingers between them" RIP Benny

I started watching NASCAR during Benny's last season so I never really saw much of his racing but he was fantastic as a broadcaster especially when he was teamed up with Bob Jenkins and Ned Jarrett. While there are so many of Benny's moments I can mention the one that sticks out right was in 1991 at Martinsville. Harry Gant was going for 4 wins in a row and considering he was 51 years old at the time there was a lot of excitement about it. Near the end of the race, there was a crash right in front of Gant and he could not avoid it and Benny said "Harry Gant is not going to win 4 in a row". Despite the damage, Gant was able to stay on the lead lap and win the race. At the next race at North Wilkesboro, a cake was made up with it saying "Harry Gant will not win 4 in the row" and Benny had to eat his words literally although I am sure he enjoyed every mouth full. At the same race, Gant almost became the first driver in the modern NASCAR era to win 5 in a row until his brakes gave up but he still finished 2nd.

Pearson and the Wood Brothers were incredible. But a big part of their success according to them was the fact they didn't run the full schedule. 45 races didn't leave you with a lot of time for preparation and development. Running the limited schedule allowed them more time to put into their cars.

Benny, Bob, & Ned were my favorite announcing trio of all time. In a Dinner With Racers podcast with Bob Jenkins (RIP as well), Bob got very emotional talking about Benny and went into detail of what a wonderful person he truly was behind the camera as well. Definitely worth a listen if you haven’t before. His enthusiasm was untouched behind the microphone & he was an outstanding husband as well.

I feel very lucky that I got to see and hear BP calling a race alongside Wally and Allen in the early 2000's. Best broadcast team I had the privilege of getting to experience live. R. I. P. Benny and thanks for the memories

BP was certainly a legend. Never got to see him race or broadcast live but he was a master at both of them. Most underrated Cup Champion of all Time in my opinion.

Benny reminds me of my grandpa who's also no longer with us. A big dude with a big personality. I started watching NASCAR in 2003 when I was 7 and Benny was easily my favorite announcer. Only got to enjoy him for a few short years but I'll never forget that golden era from 2003-2006

I'm going to tell you something you young fans Next month I'll be 38 I've been watching since I was 6 I had the pleasure of listening to Benny during his ESPN TNT NBC days and it was a joy to have him in the booth I was too young to watch him race Benny is a national treasure always was always will be rest in peace buffet Benny

The greatest race announcer ever. I met and talked to BP at many race tracks, what a class man. Everybody leaves out an important part of his life, and that is his time spent working at Detroit Steel Tubing (DST) Ford's "Hobby Shop" in 1963-1964 where he installed and alligned all 100 of the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolts. He told me that his job at DST was one of his most satisfying times. A true legend in motorsports and life itself. R.I.P. Benny, sure miss you.

I remember him from driving and announcing I just remember one time meeting him in Norfolk Virginia at an auto parts store when I was young man starting out at a dealership they used to sponsor him in the early days at Langley and Richmond and even this was in the early 80s he would still stop by & autographs just hang out to see all of his old friends

What an absolute legend. I still will go back and turn on any NBC race from ‘05-‘06 just to hear the crew again. Only got to experience those two years with BP in the booth as a fan, but it’s stuck with me 15+ years later. By far the best to ever do it, in my opinion.

BP was a one of a kind of a driver.... I've heard no bad stories of him as a driver, and a legendary one too.. but whenever you saw him in the.NBC/TNT booth, you knew you were in for something special. Especially, after seeing a big wreck that "Man, Oh Man!", (I get goosebumps, even just thinking about it).... and he always made you feel as if you were at the track, even if, you were at home watching the race on TV.... May you forever rest in peace, Benny Parsons, 1941-2007...

Benny was a true Champion. He was a class act and don't think anyone ever had a bad thing to say about him. I really enjoyed his time up in the booth. NASCAR had a great driver and great champion in BENNY PARSONS. GOD BLESS.

He was such a legend and a great guy. I remember as a little kid being at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I wanted one of those programs which is basically the track's magazine but I didn't have enough and Benny Parsons actually showed up and he bought me one. That's only one of my really fond childhood memories being around NASCAR.

My dad has always said that Benny was one of if not the best commentator in nascar. He unfortunately passed away when I was 2 so I don't remember him. However I've watched a lot of old races where he was a commentator and his knowledge of the sport and his all around attitude was absolutely fantastic!

Still crazy to me that at 46 years old and after sitting out from full time racing for 5 years, ol BP hopped back into a full time cup car and was 16th in points in 1987 for Hendrick. Hell, it’s weird to even think that BP drove for HMS.

BP is and will always be my favorite commentator. The man knew how to keep things light-hearted, but wasn’t over-the-top with it. He was an all around excellent commentator and an even better person. Sure do miss hearing him call a race!

Benny was a wonderful human being who just happened to be a great racecar driver. He touched me as a child when he signed a trading card I sent him. I was young and didn't think to send an envelope to return to. He sent it back signed, wrapped in Nascar on tnt note paper, and in a big huge envelope. It meant the world to me and it still does. Its one of those acts of kindness that keeps a man going his whole life.

Let's not forget that Benny was quite the talent scout he was exposed to many upcoming drivers it Tucson wynterheat and others. Namely Greg Biffle. Benny Parsons definitely had an eye for it

My wife and I through a friend had VIP hot passes for the Oct. 03 cup race at Charolette. While we were walking toward the garage area before qualifying I spotted Bill Elliot in a fire suit walking in front of us along side of a well dressed guy with a white dampened handkerchief on top of his head. It was warm and the afternoon sun was beating down so I could understand the larger well dressed guy's motivation. We caught up to them to get "awesome Bill's" autograph on the bill of my wife's hat, I recognized the handkerchief guy was Benny Parsons. He was so nice and congenial to my wife, he joked about "what about me, can I sign next to the legendary driver of the 9 car," with a big smile on his face. We have the hat with both signatures in our NASCAR glass display case. Thanks your video post brought back personal memories of a very happy day in our life.

I unfortunately wasn’t alive to see Benny race but he was one of the voices of the sport through my childhood along with Bob Jenkins, Mike Joy, Eli Gold, Ken Squire, and Buddy Baker. I also know him from Nascar 99 and my erratic driving leading to many calls of “Man oh man!” My favorite BP line was from a Nascar truck race in 1995 (IIRC) Harry Gant was making a few select starts in the truck series and during the particular race someone felt the need to wreck Handsome Harry. BP exclaimed on commentary “Wrecking Harry Gant, that’s like slapping Santa Claus!” I’ll always think of that line when I hear his iconic voice. I’m glad I got to experience him in some way in my life as a fan racing.

Benny Parsons was a favorite of mine. He was a favorite sports caster of everybody. In the infield with the fans who he often ate with, EVERYBODY LOVED BENNY PARSONS! May he Rest in Peace, and he is surely missed. 😥

there can never be a great broadcaster like good ol B.P., i mean i like D.W. quite a bit, but B.P. had a charm and that charm that makes watching NASCAR races from the 90's to the mid 2000's even more enjoyable

I met him in Augusta Maine at a race car show. I myself owned a local team at that time. I asked him to be a back-up driver for me. When he asked me what the car was I told him a 1985 VW Golf. He fell off his chair laughing his head off saying "Thanks, but I don't think I would fit." I got his autograph, shook hands and went on my way.

I grew up watching nascar every Sunday with my dad and papa usually hearing BP and Wally joking around with each other. I watch old races pretty often and get to hear it all over again. I really miss those days with the dream team up in the booth. I didn’t know he was dead, I figured he was up there in age of course but I hate to hear that. I met him in 2000 after a Busch race at Darlington, I was only 6 but man he treated me like a long time best friend for the 5 minutes he spent with me my dad and papa. Asked me who I liked, told me he liked him too, asked me about school and what sports I played. All around class act! Rip BP

Growing up, Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons & Ned Jarrett were THE guys to listen to while watching a Nascar race. When BP joined Allen Bestwick & Wally Dallenbach, it was another fantastic commentary team. BP was truly one of my favorites in Nascar & after all this time, we'll still miss him...

Since I have only been watching NASCAR since 2015 I didn't really know of Benny Parsons until I started watching old races on youtube. I watched them all in chronological order for the most part. I really started to notice Benny Parsons when he drove for Hendrick as well as when he was in the booth in between rides. He was always really funny and just a cool guy always one of my favorite parts of the old NASCAR broadcast especially when he became a full-time broadcaster. One of my favorite moments of his was in the 2001 Pepsi 400 when after Jr won the way he said yes like he did and just let his emotions out like some broadcasters don't always do I was just so cool to me. I think we were all thinking and saying the same thing the way he was. But yeah Benny Parsons was one of the main reasons I fell in love with old NASCAR and was able to watch so many races I wish I could have listened to him live but I'm glad that his memory will always be preserved especially because of videos like this. This video was a great tribute to him. Rest in peace Benny Parsons

1973 had a pretty odd points format. They counted points by mileage which is why there are decimal points in the points standings for 1973

I grew up watching BP in the booth and enjoyed his broadcasting. My favorite memory with him is that I believe in 03, he used to hand out an award each week (can’t remember exactly what the trophy was for) but every time he gave it to a driver, the following week they’d get in a wreck or some bad luck would strike. So at the end of the year at Homestead, he brought up how it was bad luck and smashed it on the ground 😂

I had watched him as a Driver and the Commentator Booth. Benny was First Class ! He was good at anything that he did period ! It was a very sad day when BP went to the Race Track in the Sky. However, I am sure that there were a lot of Greats that were awaiting his arrival ! Benny was The Man !

BP was great when ABC did the occasional race in the 1990s. He would tell some of his long-form stories including when Sterling Marlin set a cow on fire when he was branding it.

I first saw B.P. race in Mt. Clemons, Michigan when I was stationed at Selfridge AFB in 1964. Fast forward to 1973 I was driving a truck for L.G.DeWitt and he was driving L.G.DeWitt's race car.

I didn't know about the Days Of Thunder bits. When I was a young teen, I had two comic books- one of Davey Allison, the other, Benny. That part about his car being tore up, that was in the comic, and you explaining what happened took me back to that time reading it. Benny was an awesome guy.

Absolutely loved Benny! Had the opportunity to meet him at Riverside Motor Speedway in 1981. I was on the crew of a west coast NASCAR team and just wondering around the garage area when I saw him in his garage. I decided to be bold and tell him that I had been a fan of his for some time. We had a short conversation. He was very polite and friendly and made me feel like he genuinely enjoyed spending that five minutes out of his day with me. Most likely he never thought of that moment in time again, but he gave me a memory that has lasted a lifetime.

A great American, with a great story of ascension from driving a cab to driving in the biggest races in the sport. I believe he didn't even enter his first race until he was about 22 years old. He was magnetic as an announcer. I wasn't even a big Nascar fan, but listening to him call a race was something to look forward to. He was excellent, especially paired with Ned Jarret. Definitely equal to, or exceeding, Madden and Summerall in the NFL booth. RIP Benny. Thanks for the memories.

Watching the Firecracker 400s in person at Daytona with my dad yearly from 1985-2001, I have seen a lot of legends race or even win. I remember Benny Parsons & the Bulls Eye car especially. I miss him & his Nascar commentating, he was a great personality!
