Review of the Beretta 471 Silver Hawk, and my thoughts on a SxS as a clay gun. If you enjoy the channel, please consider becoming a Patron / gunshorts Thanks to Bywell Shooting Ground for the kind support. / gunshorts / lloydyp
Nice to see a SxS getting some review time, they certainly do have their place and are nice to bust a few clays with just for some variety but as a field gun feel so very right.
Very brave of you to venture into the SxS realm, Lloyd! I cut my teeth on one of these at an early age and fell in love with shotguns as a result. There's nothing like the smell of cordite on a cold, foggy winter morn! ;-)
Thank you so much for reviewing a SxS finally. As always a good and honest review, I'm no fan of Beretta in general but a friend of mine got a 471 Silver Hawk and its just so nice and fits like a glove to bad he won't sell it thou. So its extra fun to see a review on that one. Keep up the good work =)
Great vid as always, I really want one to have fun shooting with it especially hunting quail or snipe here in texas. I would trust a beretta as I own 4 of them over n unders. Yes, I’m sure the forearm would get really hot shooting clays or skeet.
Thank, Yeah I am trying to get hold of some Z guns to test but it's proving rather more difficult than I would like to actually lay hands on some guns. Rest assured I will keep trying.
Great review. I think you would like the Fabarm Classis with the prince of wales grip, single trigger and semi beavertail forend. If you get one for a review then I think it would make a good comparison. I'm pretty sure the action on the Fabarm is rated for steel shot on a full choke. Their 20G Classis is delightful too.
My grandfather had one once...........for someone who uses a long, heavy sporting o/u seems like a toy......i can see it does not fit or feel right, even for occasional use. Loyd you seem to be in a the o/u side all the way...........and thats my preference too.
Thanks for your reply, I'm in the states and cant seem to find them. Is that an EU model? how about the 686 Silver Pigeon I Sporting? Thank you for your time!
I'm not a fan of the 686, but you might find a 690/692 under 2k, a Browning 725 would also be a fine choice. really surprised you cant find a 682 in the US?
Strongly suspect the "case hardening" finish is fake hence does not look right. If you see the work that goes in to doing it properly there is no way that gun could be sold at that price. Think there is a renewed interest in S xS with a few game shoots specifying their use. Best bet by a good condition Webley 700 for £1k - £2K, last of the mass producted English made guns.
We have an old boy at our club who shoots a hammer action SxS sitting down, easily hits 40/50 most times out! There are so many cheap British SxS's available it seems a shame not to own one for a bit of a laugh at clays and the odd day out ruff shooting. But, yeah, O/U for clays all the way for me. That Beretta isn't the prettiest, just seems like they've tried too hard. Still a nice gun though.
Everyone needs to shoot over unders, there is no point of owning a side by side of any sort. If you have one sell it... the I can buy it and it will be cheap because no one wants them :) Nothing wrong with a good ole side by side, they dont get as much attention as they deserve, seen a few people absolutely obliterate any competition with them at some competitions.
