I can see that you obviously love and admire these beautiful machines. I have a Bernina Record 730 that I inherited from my Mum and her Mum. The drive belt is worn and I am trying to replace it. I have taken off the washer on the top drive wheel with the three outside wings and the two inside lock bits. It is now obviously that there are two possible ways to this lock washer in and I did not know this when I removed it. Do the two lock bits go deeply into the grooves on the drive axil or the other way where they just sit proud of the grooves. I don't want to get it wrong and have the motor rip its self apart. Thank you for your channel

Fantastic tutorial. But a simple question first. how do you remove the throat casing on these machines?

I know this video is old, but my wife has purchased a second hand bernina artista 180. When she trys to pick up the bobbin cotton it snaps the needle. She's cleaned all the old lint out of it etc, but to no joy. We took a close look, the needle goes the the hook thing then starts to bend the needle, if we carry on turning it snaps the needle. Is the timing out, or are we missing something?. Thanks

Thank you is not good enough for the 6 video tutorials on the 200, 730 and 180. I own the 730 the 180. Every thing was just what I needed help. Thank so much for your help and everything you have freely taught me and thousands of others.. I did learn that my Timing is of my machines is there any way I may buy the timing tool.?? It will cost me $150.00 x 2 !!!! for me to take them both into my diller. I just can not a afford that do to medical expenses. I know I can fix my own machines by watching your video., even though you used your phone it was good!!!! :)

Great video! I have a Bernina 180E (original version) that loses the needle timing with the slightest stress on the machine. I just got it back from being repaired by a professional for needle timing (again) and after sewing on it for less than a few hours it needs needle timing adjustment yet again! Is this common? Is it because the machine is old? Is it my sewing technique? Do you think it is not being repaired properly? The machine is becoming unusable due to this needle timing issue! Thanks for your insight!

Can you please tell me where I can buy the pins to adjust the timing. I have purchased 10 Bernina 1010's and cleaned them all up, but need to time them.

CJ Lee Only dealers can purchase specialty tools. I am not a dealer, just a just a self taught independent seller of used Bernina's. Any special tools I have needed, I have made myself. The pinning tools I made out of solid brass stock that you can pick up at your local hobby shop or on eBay. Pinning always involves the same steps. Keeping the needle in the centered position then locking either the bobbin hook or the lower shaft that runs the bobbin and then pinning the upper shade that operates the take up arm and the needle shaft. It's been the same since grandma's old treadle machine. The relationship between the needle and the bobbin hook. Always inspect the bobbin hook for and sharp burrs caused by a possible needle strike. I have learned by having two of the same model. When you have a known working model and one with a problem. Comparing the two and see what's different like the needle and hook distance or some other adjustment that is different. That's how I have learned.

Do you repair Bernina sewing machines?

Hi I have an artista 180 the feed dogs don't always feed fabric properly what could be the problem? They seem like they are too low. Any reply appreciated. Thanks
@JoeKind1958
@JoeKind1958 6 лет назад
claire goodlet Yes it’s possible that the feed dog height is out off adjustment. This could happen for several reasons. One being wear of the plastic cam that raises and lowers the feed dogs. If your machine has not been serviced in a long time or was not properly serviced with the use of the proper lubricant used on the plastic cam, this could cause your problem. There is also a plastic cam that raises and lowers the sewing foot and this also needs to be greased as it is possible that your foot is not raising high enough to allow the material to advance. Your foot tension adjustment also comes into all this as well. Most often I find it’s the sewing foot that is not failing high enough because most service people do not grease the plastic cam that raises up the sewing foot. Overlooked items like this are why I learned many years ago that I needed to do my own service work as I could not depend on others to get it right.

great video..I would appreciate if you could tell where to obtain technical training for these bernina machines..Thanks Shawn

Only Bernina dealers or their employees are allowed to be trained by Bernina as they are very tight on giving out any technical information. Me, I am self taught. For me and all the mechanical things I've worked on in my lifetime, it's just a sewing machine and it is rather simple. Give me a service manual for anything and I'm good to go.

bill the guy here when I talked to him Monday, asked me to bring the service manual, and then said, oh yeah those have to be pinned.. I just don't think I should take it to him,my only other option now, is to try again to fix it myself tomorrow, their is a bernina dealer in port charlotte, but I am still just not sure which way to go.. lisa ugh !!

A common problem, but it could be one of two things. I will most likely run out of room here so I will email you if I do.. The most likely cause of this message is because your machine has detected some extra drag on the motor. Like if you had a bunch of thread wrapped around the bobbin assembly and it was slowing the machine down. You sometimes just get that message for no apparent reason at all, but if it keeps coming up all the time you need to get your machine checked out. Out of room here.

don't know if you're still checking these comments, but I am a certified sewing machine repair tech, and Bernina won't help me, because I'm not a dealer for them, but I would be interested in getting the pinning tools. Do you know how I could obtain them?
@JoeKind1958
@JoeKind1958 8 лет назад
I made the ones I have out of brass stock I picked up at a hobby shop. If you need a measurement on the thickness at the "step" that is cut into the bottom of the pin that goes into the counterweight, let me know.

+JoeKind1958 Yes, absolutely. That information would be much appreciated. Your video was very helpful to me on a similar Bernina model I had on the bench the other day. I'm somewhat new to the repair field, and I've found a few of your videos to be very informative. Again, much appreciated that you take the time to do them. Thank you.

+Jay Simpson Pinning tools, These measurements are in inches or in thousands of an inch. The pin that goes in the counterweight of the upper shaft is 2 3/8 inches long. It's 0.157 in diameter. When you grind out the small step in the bottom of that pin, the remaining thickness is .107 thousands of an inch. Those measurements are from a actual steel Bernina tool. The brass one I made has a 0.155 diameter. Just 2,000ths less than the Bernina tool. That's not enough to affect the setting. The brass pin I have for the lower shaft is about a inch and a half long (length is not critical on that one) and its .114 in diameter. You can make a short pin from the same 0.155 diameter stock for the top needle centering pin. I don't bother with the pin in that one anymore as you can just eyeball it. But if you bump the needle it will knock it out of center. That should help.. Bill

Thank you so much, sir. Yes, this helps out greatly. Being new in the field of sewing machine repair, I'm noticing that modern machines, especially Bernina, kind of branch off into two entities. On one hand, you have a sewing machine, and on the other you have a computer. I'm curious what your thoughts on that might be. They become increasingly difficult to take apart because of that, too. I prefer machines that are so much simpler, lol.
