I have a Bernina B530. It is my favorite machine to piece with. My machine is not so smart that it overrides what I prefer to do: I piece with #57 foot + straight stitch plate + 1 needle click to the right for a perfect scant. If my machine were smarter, it would sense the plate and not allow this. I have plenty of room on both the foot and the stitch plate...could even go one more click over, but don't need to. The gated foot is an MVP for me. It also works great when sewing HST's...the gate sits out in front and allows you to follow the line so easily.

Wow, I've been doing the "floppy doppy and snuggle butt" for decades and never realized there was a name for those! And, I use the #37 with the seam guide butted up against it, move the needle over one space, then I get my perfect quarter inch seam (I use a Bernina Artista 180)

Hi, just recently found your channel and I love your enthusiasm! One thing I didn't quite understand...I notice you do not use leaders. When you say to line up the fabric at the mark on the foot. Is that the where your seam will begin? Not sure what you meant. I have the B550 QE and I always have to use leaders or I will get a thread nest. Maybe the more expensive machines don't have that problem?? Thanks for any suggestions. I enjoy your videos and learn a lot!!

Thanks for the detailed information you are sharing with us. I bought my machine during Just before Covid hit us, so I was not able to take any new sewing machine lessons. I have a 790B and I love it. I am wondering what stitch plate you are using, and what does it matter what one you use? When I do my piecing like you are doing here I use the single needle hole, instead of the oblong one.
@BERNINAofNaperville

Hi Gayle, just found your videos! Us 770 owners are having problems with the 1/4" seam. I am using the 97D with the side guide and I am getting less than 1/4" seam. It seems to me that the fabric is getting scewed as it goes through the machine. I wonder what stitch you are using? I use the no. 1.
@BERNINAofNaperville
@BERNINAofNaperville 3 года назад
I am using the Straight Stitch with the center need position. In addition, the straight stitch needle plate. I usually do not use the screw on seam guide. You also should make sure that you needle position is calibrated to the actual center, if not, it needs to be taken to your local BERNINA Dealer for sales and service.

@BERNINAofNaperville

Hi Callie, Foot recognition has nothing to do with the benefits of the Dual Feed. However, I personally prefer the #97D with the B 570. Either way, I usually recommend D Feet if they are an option for your machine.

I own a B570QE and was thrilled to just find your channel and especially this video. I have all of the feet you demonstrated, but sometimes my seam just doesn't want to stay at 1/4". I start out fine at the top of my strip but once the end of the strip approaches the foot, the strip tends to veer off, most of the time to the left, leaving me with a 1/4" seam at the top of the strip and 1/8" crooked seam at the bottom of the strip. I have tried the seam attachment that butts up against the foot, guide tape, the lines on the table...you name it. Do you have any other suggestions for me to sew a consistently straight 1/4" seam? Thank you so much.
@BERNINAofNaperville
@BERNINAofNaperville 3 года назад
I think that it’s possible that you maybe cutting your strips not exactly straight. Or it is a normal tends to to start out accurate then space out and by the time you get back to the end you set yourself (back on the right path). The latter just takes practice.
