I was looking for a comment about that moment, I thought the same thing, I’m an alcoholic, 1 year clean, and I used to close my eyes and ignore the world the exact same way for the first shot of the day, I wanted to focus on the feeling, that warmth as long as I could. or they've spiraled so far down and don't even enjoy drinking anymore, but it's become such an uncontrollable addiction and they don't even know what to do about it, so then they go to AA and find out that AA actually kinda sucks and doesn't find help there, and they have no friends or family so the only person to hold themselves accountable is themself, but they find that the city they live in is severely lacking in addiction treatment, so now he's trying to get into therapy again and while he waits for his appointment he's going to try really hard not to drink again tonight, but he doesn't know how the rest of the day will hold up because if there's something that upsets him he'll go back to the drinking to cope.

Truth. His identity is wrapped up in it and like most addicts the idea of navigating his career and life without seems like it is too far from where he is currently. The problem is a lot of people live life the same way and it’s easier to think your on the other side of the goal post. Ignoring the mechanics of addiction applying to him because his life doesn’t appear the way more extreme forms of addiction do.
