Bert trying to explain recovery to Steve-O is like a fish trying to explain aerodynamics to a bird. Steve-O has walked the walk. He knows where his own addiction settles, and isn't comfortable with it. Bert is in a constant state of denial about many things. Alcoholism being one of them.
@brmakl1
@brmakl1 10 месяцев назад
To be fair, both fish and birds are experts with fluid-dynamics, just in different ends of their preferred fluid densities. They’d probably have quite the conversation 😂. My smirky comments aside, I think you’re spot on! Steve-O can see through the Bart BS without a doubt. Very interesting to see how he skirts around the conversation regarding drinking habits. He was even able to keep it lighthearted at the end and make something funny of it, whereas all Brent wanted to know is if he did better than Tom at podcasting. 😢

Alcoholism isn't black and white. The world is filled with drinkers, so if the guy isn't dropping the ball on being productive in his life how can you say he's an alcoholic? Are we defining alcoholism as someone who drinks more than you or I do? I think real alcoholism should be defined by it negatively impacting your life's goals. Doesn't sèm to be the case with Bert.
@X3N0TiC
@X3N0TiC 10 месяцев назад
this 100%, just because you're a functioning alcoholic and have your good periods doesn't mean you aren't still an alcoholic and will always have that demon to deal with, Bert seems to have it under control for now, because in life he's doing pretty great for himself, but his fixation on alcohol has always been a part of him if you've watched his appearances over the years, and I wonder how he would fair with his drinking if he had some real problems to drink about. He's doing so much mental gymnastics here to avoid the issue and minimize the whole thing, but he can't drop the subject while there is still doubt on him being an alcoholic, so he digs himself a neat little hole
@TheRageCage

@GodbreadGilfredBiago 10 месяцев назад
Yeah he has so many things that he uses alcohol or, really, depends on alcohol to cope with. As a fellow alcoholic, you just know by how he uses alcohol that he has a problem. I don't think he's overselling his drinking. I think he's actually underselling how much he drinks. He's probably in a much darker place than he let's on at this point. He's honestly a lost cause at this moment. He's absolutely delusional. EDIT: BTW, I've been sober for a long time.

I really disagree with comedy enforcement on two things: 1. Bert’s drinking is definitely an issue, Shane admits his own is, so using him as a comp makes no sense, and Bert actually has been exposed for lying about drinking less than he really does. 2. If you’re 75 days sober, you should be over whatever withdrawals you would have, he’s not cranky from not drinking, he’s cranky because he doesn’t like having to confront his alcoholism. Doesnt matter if you drink 10 drinks in one night, or 10 drinks over a week. And just fyi, one standard craft tall can of beer is closer to 2 standard drinks than one. Alcohol never affected my life (high functioning) but i drank a few beers every night after work and winded up in the hospital for 5 weeks for heart problems. As a alcoholic myself Bert is somehow still in the faze of denial and doing mental gymnastics to convince himself that he’s not an alcoholic. Every alcoholic goes through this, which is what led to my 2 relapses. If you stop drinking for a period of time and you get over that hump of the physical and mental part your mind starts convincing you “yeah I’ve done this time without alcohol or drugs I must not really be an alcoholic, I’m sure I can just drink socially or hold myself to a few drinks” and then you end up shit face and sometimes blacked out. Many of times have i gone into a social hangout with friends and tell everyone that this time I’m gonna hold myself to a few beers and take it slowly and then I wake up the next day not even remembering how I got home or what even happened last night. Bert is scared to admit it because he doesn’t want to give up that comfort of alcohol. And that’s okay, in the rooms we say if it’s not your time it’s not your time get it outta your system so you can completely commit yourself to sober living.

I'm not at all with Bert on this one. And I like almost all your takes. I will say, what he said about recovering addicts seeing everyone's problem IS a problem, for some. Not only did I have an addict in my family, but I was in a relationship with a recovering alcoholic for a long time. She would do exactly what Bert mentioned, Bert just didn't phrase it eloquently. We would literally be in a mild argument, and then she'd say "you're acting like an addict." And this occurred in many ways in many contexts 'til we split ways. Again. I'm not saying it's super common, but she wasn't the only one. And psychologically it makes sense you'd learn a new way to watch over your own mind and then continue to see it in others. Also Bert said "all they can see is alcoholics" or something similar, generalizing... overzealous. Anyways just wanted to share meh'thoughts. Be well!

It seemed like steve-o was sober and trying to help someone that needs it. Makes me respect and like steve-o so fucking much he's a great dude. I've been to AA type stuff and there's always people like him trying to help others and show the way its legit. Bert Krashler is just like brendan schaub in most ways not funny and makes it all about him in the worst ways and just annoying with nothing truly interesting to say. I'm so happy he got called out on fucking it up lmao great episode as usual
