Everything was going so well.....and then life kicks you in the nuts 😵. That engine was running beautifully. Despite the mishap the Bertram is coming along really well. 👍

Thanks Randie. It's all sorted now. Will have a video out on the water soon!

The Bertram 20 is still a great boat over 50 years since it was first designed. Ripping the cleat off before the first run certainly would have been a let down after all the good work. You did well by getting one that already had the engine fitted with a closed cooling system; this is a great benefit for engine longevity and reduced laitance. I noticed in the earlier video with the engine running on the ground that the cooling water was going into the exhaust as normal yet when it was running in the boat there appears to be a water outlet through the transom, something I have never seen on a Mercruiser before only on a Yanmar diesel sterndrive. The bulk head on these boats was usually made of Teak so there was the option of refinishing it by rubbing it down and re-oiling with Teak oil. I would be interested to know the capacity of the fuel tank and the material it is made out of. I am looking forward to the next video when it goes for a run and you can post all the performance figures.

why people don't use fenders to protect the gel-coat from scratches on their boats I will never know. I am also doing a pride 20 Bahia Mar 20 which is a Betram 20 and had to fix all the scratches but my has a 170 merc 4 cylinder

Looking at doing something very similar with a Bertram v20 im looking to buy. I would be very keen to know the extent of the work that went into the floor etc done by your shipwright as thats my main concern with the boat im looking at. Thanks

Not sure if this help..... I spoke with a guy a few months ago and he was telling me about his Bertram that would get stuck in gear. The only way it would disengage was to switch motor off.... apparently there is a k8nd of kill switch relay that kills the motor for very short moment letting the motor and gearbox disengaged. Hope this helps!!
