Thanks Gary! I changed out my filter but had water pouring out of the pressure relief button on top. I was able to clear it out by pushing it up and down like you showed in the video. I was starting to panic. Thanks again for your help.

Very helpful! My father and I changed out the water filter and when we put it back we found out that the air release valve was leaking water. Was afraid it would be a whole project to have to replace the entire water filter fixture, but thankfully (because of this video) all we had to do was unfasten the screw in the base of the cover. Turns out the O-ring had completely disintegrated (which of course meant there was no air tight seal) put a reserve one in and now we're all set! Could've been so much worse without that info.

Thanks for this video. I had a problem with the pressure release button. I'm still seeing a bit of a drip oozing out but it isn't as bad as it was before and I'll monitor it to see if it clears up in the next day or two. I had to deal with the screw. I was scared to tighten it too much for fear of stripping something.

Loved the video! The top of my housing has 4 screws that attach the unit to the bracket. It's leaking from the front right screw. I tried tightening it (not too tight as to cross thread/strip the screw hole), but it still leaks. Any idea as to why?

I have seen that happen a couple of times, either the screw is ever so slightly too long or there is a fine crack. You can temporarily fix it by taking everything apart, drying it all and put the screw back in with epoxy but at some point in the future it will leak again.

Hi Gary - thanks for the video. We have to change our filters regularly due to sediment. We have the 4.5 x 20 Viqua filter housing units with the small drain. I would like to swap out the drain screw for something easier to use - like small drain valve. Do you happen to know the thread size of the drain screw?

I find it best to “hand tight” also use 111 lube for o-ring, not chapstick or coconut oil. Good video.

If hand tight doesn't leak, that's great but I often find you need to give it a little more. If the silicone lubricant is food grade, that's what I would suggest. This is what we use waterestore.com/products/hum-plumbers-secret-clear-silicone-grease-food-grade-5-gram

I was going to replace the o-ring but find that replacement o-rings for the AP801 housing seem to large...thoughts?

House has a GE GXWH35F filter. Started dripping around the o-ring after about a year undisturbed. With the filter element removed from the canister there was no leak. Insuring there was no foreign matter in the canister I replaced the filter element now my leak is back and worse. I suspect the replacement is longer. What have I missed? What can I do? I think the replacement unit you recommend is an excellent design. I don't see any like that here in the states. Thank you for your video.

Yes, it could be the new filter is likely longer, but it's rare that it would cause a leak. Did you check all the other suggestions I made in the video? I had same issue with the 4.5 inch filter housing the the cause was that the O ring had slipped down to the bottom "shoulder" of sump - it fits, but it is supposed to be a quarter inch up on the next shoulder molding.

So it looks like we have a some sort of puncture hole or crack on the top as the top is squirting out a tiny stream of water. I’m trying to stop at temporarily by hitting that pressure button over and over but it just seems like water just keeps on coming out and it’s never ending. Do you think at this point is it’s time to just replace the water filter?

Can i just permanently close the red pressure release button if its still leaking? Because the other 2 filtering housing still has it to release pressure.

What about a leak from the 2 filters connected to each other. There's a little length hose that connects the filters. I have 3 total filters 20 by 2.5. From Express Water. Thank you. Blessings.

In that situation, you need to remove the system from the plumbing. Remove the filters from the manifold, unscrew the filter housing from the leaking nipple, reapply the teflon tape and reassemble the whole thing. Quite a bit of work.

once a month our filter leaks from the top. It happened again this morning, but we had just changed our filter 2 weeks ago. Could it be that our filter needed to be changed again? I have no idea what could be the issue.

Food greade and silicone based, yes. Non food greade and pertroleum based, no.

Great question! Ideally yes, but I've found over the last 5 years or so they need a little bit more tightening than hand tight or they leak. Or maybe I'm just getting weaker as I get older.

Sometimes you just have a POS for a filter housing. I tried every bit of that and it still leaks from between the housing and the top. I even tried Teflon tape on the threads.

My filter housing calls for no pipe dope. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to stop it from micro leaking? Three wraps of Teflon doesn't seem to be doing the trick

Plumber here- Great video, but NO pipe compound on the threads- Teflon only!! Some of the chemicals in some of the pipe components will make the plastic disintegrate into a soft mess. Best practice is to NEVER use any brand of pipe dope!!!
