Not just war dance also celebration, farewell, welcoming, honoring, mourning etc. Each haka has its own meaning.

I still think Fiji's Haka before facing Wales in 2007 RWC messed with Wales so much that Fiji straight up out played Wales with The Torpedo Shane Williams who was like a nuclear missile heaing for the try line.

Love your energy man. Your reactions to the Maori Haka are awe--some. The opposition know what's coming for them: no mistaking that! The opening chant, "It is life, it is death" still makes the hairs on my neck and head lift. 'No quarter asked; non given. Stay safe fella.

The Haka in the 2003 world Cup vs Tonga was the best Haka I've seen... Tonga have their own tribal dance and they were performing against eachother in an epic prematch showdown 👌🏻

If you like Rugby traditions you should react to the Welsh singing their national anthem at rugby matches against the English. Wales and England rugby have a massive rivalry. As someone who has both English and Welsh blood there are arguments in the house when Wales play England.

The Haka is a war dance, a show of strength when tribal warriors once met eachother, then it became a symbol used instead of war when tribal chiefs and their warriors met with them showing off to one another their strengths with each tribes having their own traditional Haka. It was used instead of fighting and in the end became a symbol of respect to be used, replacing fighting with peaceful mediation which both side would perform to the anothers by showing the Haka when meeting for special reasons like discussing important matters between tribal nations leaders, for eg, if a man from one tribe had relations with a girl from another tribe without consent, then they'd meet, perform the Haka then aid down to discuss the matter, probably ending in a marriage or maybe punishment depending on the people involved and their position within their particular tribal culture and hierarchy. Loving your subject matter brother.

I love your reaction to this. Rugby is not a sport for wimps. My cousin-in-law played rugby in college until he received a head injury, and my dad played for several teams in the UK when he was backpacking in the late 70s. He roomed with some Irishmen, Aussies and Kiwis (New Zealand), and is still friends with them to this day. One story he told me was when he was playing for Wales. It started to hail during one of the games, but the hail was so tiny it was mistaken for as rain. After the game when they went to the showers, blood just started pouring on the floor because they got cut up from the hail.

Haka is used for so many things and you need all your passion when you perform it or else it doesn't look that great. In New Zealand most of us learn some type of Haka at like Primary school and theres even a club for it. Theres also Womens Haka that is just as intense, I remember a few months ago I had to perform one for a ceremony and our head girl lost her voice from practicing

You should watch the one of RWC 2007 quarter final against France. The 10m rule did not exist by this time. Both team were head to head at the end. The one from RWC 2011 final is a really good one too, with the French standing in V and walk towards them.

Theses men in the all blacks are raised from a child and trained in there collage they must show respect through life, there's an haka for death, there are wedding hakas, but on the rugby field a thousand years ago this was there war dance to kill

There is the flip side, in that this performance pre-match gives NZ an unfair advantage. Its the psychology of the opposing team having to stand and 'take it'. They are not allowed to turn their backs or respond to this. Which gives NZ huge psychological boost denied to the other team. National squads wanted it either stopped, or let NZ do the Haka while the other team stays in the changing rooms. But Rugbys governing officials refused any changes, as it brings in the crowds.... Putting match profits before sporting fairness.
