@@h8evil685 yep that's a famous quote from Rommel, and it varies depending on who you talk to. There's a version that quotes him as saying "If I'd had one division of Māori, I would have taken the canal in a week. If I'd had three, I'd have taken Baghdad."

The Maori Battalion featured in the battle of 42nd street in Crete. Out of ammo along with other NZ and commonwealth battalions they fixed bayonets. The Maori battalion started a haka. The leader without his traditional patu (greenstone or bone flat bladed club) would jump out of cover and do the haka in full view of the Germans waving a Bren gun magazine. He would jump Down out Of sight to reappear elsewhere and continue. It’s not known which unit started the bayonet charge but no doubt they were all whipped into a frenzy by the haka. When the charge came the Germans intimidated by the haka ran. I seem to recall of that charge the commonwealth forces only lost two or three men? The charge was the one of the few victories they had in Crete before they were forced to retreat and be evacuated to Egypt. My wife’s grandfather served in the Maori Battalion in Africa. Despite the fierce warrior spirit He came home Damaged. He died before I came along. I would have loved to have met him.

D McN just a footnote to that, all of the schools and teams etc. we’ve been involved with over the years, particularly with our son playing rugby, especially in Māori rep teams, there is a real emphasis on teaching them the meaning of every action and word that is spoken. This is why it holds so much power, it actually has meaning to them so they can perform it with the passion and respect it deserves.

You just attempt to score a try until they take the ball or something illegal happens? I hope to learn all I can about the sport, it’s very intriguing.

@@KurtyFloLive It depends on what you are watching, there's Rugby Union, the oldest form of the sport, then there's Rugby League, very similar, but both with different play structure. The basic similarity is to get the ball into the opposing teams in-goal area (end zone), which is between the Try Line (where the posts are) and before the Dead-Ball Line. A player cannot touch the Touch-Lines whilst holding the ball doing so will result in a Line-Out and a member from the opposing team wil then throw it from the line back into play, which consists of members from both teams standing in line 1m apart, the ball must be thrown straight down the middle, which they can both go for. There's fair few other things similar, such as run time, which is 80mins split into two halves and a short break between the two and only the ball carrier can be tackled, but things do deviate from there. In Union the team consists of 15 men on the pitch and 8 substitutes, whereas in League, it's just 13 players and 4 substitutes. With Union, once your team is in possession of the ball, the team keeps going until they score a try, or until the ball is captured by the other team, though if you are tackled, they play still goes on in the form of a Ruck or Maul, depending on the tackle result. However in League, the attacking team has just 6 attempts at a Try, after each confirmed tackle, the tackled player must be let up to their feet, who then passes the ball backwards with his foot to his teammate standing behind him and the next attempt to score begins, until all 6 attempts have been used, after which possession There's a lot more to each of the two sports, far more than I can put into a comment, but are a few videos on RU-vid that go into depth about them both... you'll be seriously confused at first, though it all makes sense once you watch a few games for each.
