For me, (age 45) vitamin C serum + sunscreen in AM, peptides + retin-A in PM. Fave sunscreen = Colorscience sunforgettable classic Fave peptide products = Ordinary brand buffet + copper peptides serum and DRMTLGY peptide night cream (They also make an AMAZING neck cream!)

I’m so happy I started on a good skin care regimen, but a little late to the game when I did in my late 40s, I’m now 59. My go-to’s are tretinoin and I’ve worked up to the 1%, Maelove’s the glow maker for the vitamin C, Hylamide’s niacinamide, but I believe Deciem is doing away with the Hylamide line. I do love the ordinary AHA/BHA exfoliant acids. I have a little routine that I do every week and I know my dermatologist had told me several years back to only do the Tretinoin twice a week due to the black box warning’s.

This is a wonderful video - all these skincare terms get advertised to us, but it's really helpful to understand the specific benefits of each in the way you've laid this out. But the follow-up would be: how do you combine these into an actual skincare regime? For example, I've heard that you shouldn't mix peptides and retinoids within a certain time window. Additionally, if you are layering all these product types in one go, won't they lose their effectiveness - or worse, overwhelm the skin and actually cause damage?
@DrSamEllis
@DrSamEllis 2 года назад
Thank you! You don’t need to combine them all and retinoids and peptides can usually be used together. Copper peptides and vitamin c could possibly interfere with one another so I wouldn’t use them at the same time. Sample regimen for mature skin that isn’t too sensitive: AM: Gentle cleanse or AHA cleanser for more exfoliation/glow if skin isn’t sensitive (optional), antioxidant serum, growth serum, moisturizer (optional, could be a peptide moisturizer), spf PM: Gentle cleanse, peptide serum, retinoid, moisturizer But also most people don’t need to do everything! It’s just that some people won’t be able to tolerate some actives, like AHAs or retinoids so it’s nice to have other options. Hope this helps!

The Shiseido serum is full of denatured alcohol (2nd ingredient) and is slammed by reviewers because of the lack of interesting/beneficial ingredients (ie they are way down the list after standard inclusions like glycerin, silicones etc). I'd love your take on this Dr Sam, so I can stand corrected if need be.
@DrSamEllis
@DrSamEllis 2 года назад
So denatured alcohol is not an evil skincare ingredient and is often used to enhance the texture and application of serums. Of course, like any ingredient, if someone is particularly sensitive to it then they should avoid it. Also when it comes to active ingredients, it’s not always about the amount/quantity of an active because even very small percentages of certain ingredients can be effective. An ingredient list is just a guide (the same way a recipe is just a guide but doesn’t necessarily tell you how the final product will taste). Hope that makes sense! 💕

I would love to hear more about retinaid use around the eyes regarding safety. I have been using retanoid eye creams but I do have chronic dry eye and was looking into if it was safe for around the eyes and apparently a lot of eye doctors do not like the use of retinoids on the face period especially around the eye because it can affect the oil glands in the eye from producing oil correctly (or something like that haha) which is a big problem for me as that is already my issue and I don’t want to exasperate it. I think I’m going to move to a peptide Eye Cream but I would love to hear your thoughts.

But when well taken care of, my skin looks and feels great! I've been hearing sooo many benefits about retinol and I would love to incorporate it so I can slow down the effects of aging and help with skin firmness, plumpness, texture, etc. as I go into my 30s and beyond, but I'm scared I'm gonna mess up my skin (from irritation or the "retinol uglies") because right now I've perfected my skincare routine to the point where my skin looks the best it's ever been. I saw a special with MaeLove. What do you think of the package of Glowmaker, Moonlight Retinal Serum, The Night Renewer Glycolic Acid Cream? I'm 66 years old with dry to normal skin. I am getting some age spots and want to do everything I can to keep my skin as nice as possible. I currently use Glowmaker every morning but wondered what you thought of incorporating the other 2 at night. I just want what's best to keep my skin as nice as I possibly can ❤️ And what's your thoughts on using The Ordinary 5% lactic acid with MaeLove Glowmaker in the mornings before moisturizer?

Dr. Ellis, thank you for your helpful, informative videos. Question: I have a few dark spots on my face and several on my hands. Most of them are from photodamage, but one on my face and one on my hand are suborrheic keratoses. Will consistent use of topicals (retinols, acids, CE Ferulic, etc) eventually get rid of them? Or do I need a procedure and if so, which one? VI Peel? IPL laser? Other??? Thanks!

With Anti Aging dermalmd My complexion looks and feels better than ever. It's so smooth and soft, looks younger. I've received a number of complements, one person wanting to know what I'm doing to my face, there's definitely a change. I'm very pleased.

Thank you for all your knowledge ! Is an eye cream really necessary. I hear alot of people don't use one ? Do you recommend red light or any other home device for anti-aging ?

Great information. Thank you. I have tried three different regimens. I love Lancer exfoliation, cleanser and moisturizer for sensitive skin. Sometimes I will add in the lift serum. The second regimen I like is ZO by Dr. Obagi. I use his anti aging pack. I tried Cureology but wasn’t a huge fan. I rarely get breakouts but seemed to get them when using their products. No matter which regimen I always use my Timeless Vitamin C.

I ADORE the Nightly Serum by Dr Sam Bunting. It's just so easy. Double cleanse, tone, serum, cream.

I've had rosacea for years now. I used Mirvaso for a few years until I had to switch insurance and they unfortunately didn't cover Mirvaso. So my dermatologist prescribed me Brimonidine 0.2% eye drops. Been working great for my rosacea cheeks and so much CHEAPER! Do you ever prescribe that for your patients with rosacea? Is it okay to use Brimonidine on the skin long term??
