The Mindf*ck series is an experience that I gladly went through well in the beach during the summertime. It was one of my favorite reads along with Butcher and Blackbird. 🍎
I had no intention of reading the book of night because I didn’t care for the folk of the air trilogy (don’t come for me, internet!) but I picked it up after your first review. I LOVED IT! 🍎
I read a lot of these books this year because of your recommendations and I have to say that Part Of Your World is my favorite romance of all time!! It’s absolutely perfect in every way
Yesss, so obsessed with The Last Tale of the Flower Bride! It was my top read of the year, along with Happy Place, of course hehehe. Silver Under Nightfall was recommended to me on that secret santa exchange and I didn't want a big book at the time but I definitely added it to my TBR for later!
I just finished Silver Under Nightfall and the ARC of Court of Wanderers this weekend! CoW is so good, the reveals just kept coming. Rin Chupeco is def on my favorite authors list after last year
My favorites of the year were Dear Medusa by Olivia A. Cole (YA), They Never Learn by Layne Fargo, Tilly in Technicolor by Mazey Eddings (YA), Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon, & Know My Name by Chanel Miller!
i read "born darkly" when you posted your video on it months ago and i LOVED IT. it's on my top 10 of the year, i'm so glad it's also in your top 10, it was soooo good!!!!
our book tastes are so different, but your mannerisms when speaking r so engaging that you could talk about rocks for 2 hours and i wouldn’t be bored. literally feels like i’m on ft with a friend when i watch u💀💀 plus ur so funny HELLO i’ve already recommended u to all my book friends !!
🍎 my favorite book of this year was by far A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson. As soon as I finished reading, I immediately wanted to pick it back up and read it again
my favourite book of the year is emily wilde 🥰🥰🥰 i love it soooo much i am obsessed with emily and wendell together and how emily will do batshit crazy dangerous stuff for research but also she knows how to get out of it like yes application of knowledge to the real world thats my girllll. also for some reason i thought it was a duology but then the end of the second book is like read more in the next book like ahhhhh it's a series i would fr read about them forever 🍎
so excited for the series! if you like their dynamic you might enjoy the veronica speedwell series - the main characters have a similar vibe except that the books are cozy mysteries!
Noooo I'm sorry, but Holly Black wrote Book of Night for *me* 😄 I can't wait for the sequel. And the covers of the Mindfck series are truly awful, I very nearly didn't read it because of them! I'm so glad I did because it's one of the best books I've ever read. Although it's the first 'good for her' I've ever read and I don't think anything is ever going to beat it, may have ruined myself for this trope already 😄
Minor spoilers but idk if they could even be called that. Still, proceed with caution. The Mindf*ck Series was literally so entertaining but there were some glaring red flags about the author that I picked up on, which made it a simultaneously awesome and frustrating read. If yall love stuff where it's a really awesome thought-out plan (Oceans movies, Knives out, etc) you will love this book. However, the author kind of has weird things about queer people and the bisexual representation wasn't great. I literally closed the book when I had 3 pages left because the author straight up wrote that the bisexual couple had threesomes bimonthly and cited their bisexuality as the reason for it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with what consenting adults do with their own lives in the bedroom, but the way the author went about this played into the stereotype of bisexual people not being satisfied with one partner and also the stereotype of bisexual people being particularly promiscuous. I couldn't even finish the book after that because it put such a sour taste in my mouth. Also, one of the characters was described as having a "touch of oriental" in their features, which was outdated and not an acceptable way to describe someone. Besides that, there were grammatical and spelling issues that completely took me out of the story for a second (the author did not have a good grasp on their/there/they're) but other than that I really did enjoy the book. I just want to put out there for any of my fellow bisexuals that the representation in this book is horrendous and the author said some stuff that probably wasn't great.
Yes agree about this! It was written in 2016 so I kinda chalked it up to it being another time. Obviously still a little late for those kinds of comments/stereotypes but I have noticed that self published romance from that time has these issues. Also, the author died so we don't really have a way of knowing if she would address the issues today.
@@sarawithoutanH Yes, I was super sad to hear she passed away, because I think that she would have developed into an even better author with time. I'd like to think that she would have addressed this at some point if she received criticism because in other parts of the book she demonstrated that she accepts gay people. Also, I still very much enjoyed the book. I always go off of your recommendations and I'm never disappointed (In My Dreams I Hold The Knife is literally the best book I've ever read).
🍎 I heard the words "toxic friendship" and immediately went and requested The Last Tale of the Flower Bride for purchase at my library! My top two of the year (because I also couldn't choose one) are Vicious by VE Schwab, and Interview with the Vampire by the iconic Anne Rice
Ninth House was so good!! I'm hoping to give Silver Under Nightfall another go and to read so many other books on your list this year like Emily WIlde and Book of Night!🍎My favorite books were Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe and A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft!
I also had the Mindf*ck series in my top 5. My top top books were In Memoriam by Alice Winn, the Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton, and You & Me by Tal Bauer.
🍎My absolute favorite books this year were The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer, Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, and the Clocktaur War duology by T. Kingfisher. But Emily Wilde was solidly in my top 10 and I am so excited for the next one!
You had already convinced me to read the Mind Fuck series when you initially read it, but then I kinda forgot about it. Now I have been reminded and will be reading it asap! 🍎
The way I knew about every book in this top 10 because I watched the hell out of your channel this year. You've been such a joy and delight, and I hope your 2024 will be filled with 5⭐ reads 😂 and yes, that MF cover 🍎 deserves jail time for sure !
I loved Book of Night, and will never understand why it's not more loved 😂I understand maybe being indifferent, but for it to be a "worst book" is crazy to me. To each their own in the book world!
