I agree with your picks and would add Still Austin CS, Rebecca Creek Double Oaked, New Riff Single Barrels, Sagamore Barrel Strength, and Smoke Wagon Uncut and Unfiltered.
Agree with pretty much all of the whiskeys you mentioned. I would add Sagamore Barrel Strength and finishes are great buys at the price and I really enjoyed the Smoke Wagon Blenders Select.
Heaven Hill 7 year BIB, $41 here in So Cal. Can't be beat for that price. Old Grand Dad 114 for $30. Redwood Empire "Lost Monarch" for $35, yes I know it technically isn't a pure bourbon, but it favors those flavors over the rye and is just damn delicious.
1792 full proof (especially the store picks) is my best value for bourbon. 62.5%, quintessential bourbon taste, and I found it for $50! Was also able to find JD single barrel barrel proof on sale for $55!
FWIW, if you know where your dryer vent exits the house, it may be easier to pull the cover off outside and clean it from there. A shop vac can help. The dryer vent hose is usually a little thin and fragile, so be careful of using sharp things to poke around (like the tip of a wire coat hanger); tape the tip up or put in a bend so they don't snag. If it is a really long vent, you may need to approach it from both ends anyway. Good luck. Blocked dryer vents can be a cause of fires, so definitely worth the trouble, whatever you have to do.
What about McKenna BiB? One of my favorites. Spot on with your selections. However, where I live the EC and Larceny BPs are about $100. Love the video! Not gonna lie, love all your videos. Very entertaining and, more importantly, very educational. Incidentally, I live about a half hour from the JD distillery.
I’m a big fan of the Bardstown Bottled In Bond. Also, the New Riff Single Barrel, especially at the higher proofs. I’ve had a couple bottles over 110 proof, tasty tasty!
I’m a big fan of the Ben Holladay BIB. Their Soft Red Wheated BIB 6yr is another solid choice, and they recently released their Barrel Proof which is awesome.
I’m only less than a minute into the video but before I watch, I just want to throw my “Shelf Staples” list I keep on my Reminders App on my phone. It’s 20 bottles deep but I’ll shorten it to 8 since half are either batches/single-barrels or whiskey from across the pond. WT Rare Breed, Knob Creek 12, OF1920, Pikesville Rye, Sagamore Double Oak, Cooper’s 100, and both Maker’s 46 CS and Maker’s CS.
P/U a Nelson Bros Reserve at a CA Total Wine for $39.99 + tx really good IMO. I know there are a lot of Belle Meade folks hatin' on it, so good, leave the Nelson's for the rest of us.
Great list Matt. My last pickup was a finesse buy of Knob Creek 12 for $49.97!!! Would’ve bought two, BUT I also picked up Sagamore DO for $49.97 as well. I’m well prepared for the rest of autumn 🤌🏾
A few i think that are notable but missing. All readily available. + Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon + Penelop Architech + Still Austin Cask strength many ryes but leaving them off this list.
How about ASW Georgia Heartwood call strength, Redwood Empire Pipe Dreams cask strength, Smoke Wagon uncut unfiltered, Old Forester Single Barrell Store pick, or Penelope Toasted Barrel?
Bakers 7 Heaven Hill BIB are bottles that are very good for the money may not be everyone’s jam but that’s the way bourbon work’s different strokes for different folks. Great list some seriously heavy hitters here for a great price usually.
Nice list! I recently had to unclog my dryer hose. If your dryer is next to an external wall it may pay to attack it from the outside. The clog I had was at the vent flaps on the outside wall.
So glad to see Rebel 10 in the mix. Absolutely crushable. Was one of my favorite bottles last year and stoked to have been able to pick up another this year!
Solid List through and through. Seeing everyone in the comments bring up Sagamore, and they are not wrong. But, maybe you can follow this up with your favorite Barrel Proof Ryes for under $100? And maybe Bottled In Bond for under $75?? Come on, this is content gold! :D
Love the picks. Would definitely add Penelope to the list especially the toasted and barrel strength. Also if you can find any of the 2XO b blends. Saw the newest for 98$ in Louisville.
I know you're not a Maker's Mark fan but any and all of their limited releases (Wood Finishing Series), Private Release store picks, and the Maker's 46 Cask Strength are all winners. I have had many bourbons from Barrell Craft Spirits and everyone of them is worth their price!
I keep trying to get people into the Jack BP but they see jack and aren't convinced but it's so so good. Old Ezra 7 is one I've been enjoying a lot too and Sagamore
I have most you mentioned plus about 5 or 6 specials I have over $100, I can come up with a dozen more. But with my Scotch, Rum, Irish,Tequila with a few Brandy's I have I don't spend more than $75 on a pour. WIth 85+ bottles at my bar that I like, I don't I want to spend the money on weeding out the 100"s on up it's not worth it. Besides if I want a taste I buy a pour, which is very rare. The only thing I find buying the last few years are the mixer pours. Why?.. I have on average a half bottle + of everything else. The sweet spot on my neat's are $45/65. 30 yrs. ago spending $45 on a pour was insane. Not missing anything and my credit card doesn't scream at me or self destruct. P.S Buy extra corks the T-corks on most bottles fail eventually, or the Angels keep visiting your stash. Cheers.
Great list and I'm sure there are others as the people below have mentioned. This is the very reason why people are crazy to spend more than $100 on bourbon. I wont spend over $80. in my opinion its never been worth spending more or chasing them for that matter as these products are all on the shelf!
I love my bourbon, but for less than $100 the rye category knocks it out of the park. The Angels Envy Finished is a good example. And as always great content sir.
I just tried that at Heaven Hill two days ago. Probably my biggest surprise on the bourbon trail! I didn't buy one because my suitcase was hitting critical mass and now I regret it.
4 more come to mind, no particular order. Bakers 7, ~$60. Great Beam product, sweeter than Knob Creek Four Roses Small Batch Select, ~$55. More well rounded profile than the single barrels, as you get 6/10 of the mash bills blended. Bardstown Origin, ~$40. Maybe the only sub100 proof bourbon I regularly reach for. High Rye, bats well above its price. Journeyman Corsets Whips and Whiskey. ~$60. Single Barrel 117 proof - Won the Ascot Awards this year. 100% wheat (not bourbon)
Yes absolutely! Bakers and Four Roses Small Batch Select are two of my favorites. Both are excellent bourbons. Unfortunately, I have never even seen the other two that you listed. Cheers!
