I live where these are native, and seeing them on occasion has become the highlight of my day. Hoping to pick up a captive bred one at a show this year. Looking forward to seeing more of their behavior, since most of the times you see them "out' and about in AZ, it's a male going wandering.

If you're cheap like me, timberline top soil is like 2.50 USD and can be found in Lowes home improvement in the gardening section. My fossorial Tarantulas and young terrestrial tarantulas love digging into it hard. Something about top soil really makes them dig mazes and multiple entry ways. My Hentzi made a maze of tunnels in hers. No surprise as her species are natural excavators. . Bake it before using it as I didn't and mushrooms grew out of of the enclosure made for my Hentzi. Put an amount you want into a casserole tray, then check for any plastics or any unwanted things like long sticks or roots and bake it for 200f for an hour. Use some water to make it clay like. I recommend using rubber gloves as this will get messy but, you can make clay structures and burrows for them. A hollowed out cork bark held under by the top soil makes ground tarantulas love them.

So informative and well put together. It's nice to see people putting together detailed guides for specific species of tarantula, it really helps if you're new to the hobby or looking to know all about your tarantula species in particular. It can be hard to find information all in one place for some species online, so keep it up! I like seeing different kinds of tarantulas be featured.

I've had a captive bred sling for a while now, like over 6 months, they are quite slow growing! The other species I have kind of spoiled me with their growth rate lol. They are really neat and quite the burrowers. At one point I hadn't seen them in a while so I gave in and dug around to find them. They were annoyed, but I did find 2 small molts. Now they have dug even more and covered up their water dish. I never actually see them eat, but they always seem fat when I see them. They seem quite optimized for a resource-scarce environment. I hear such good things about them, I'm glad I got them even if I have to wait quite a while for them to get a bit of size.

I have a 3" female from MW (along with 3 slings that have all decided to burrow out of sight of course). Hopefully, the fact the she was "wild caught" (the only ones they had at the time that were not slings) doesn't really affect her attitude or deminer. She is a bit quick to come out if i brush on her leg with a small paint brush. not a "fast" manuver, but still. She has a funny thing she does after she had decided shes done interacting with me though. She brings her abdomen out and does a "butt dance". I know shes re-webbing the area, it just looks so funny though! And awesome to see you going back over the classic T's again!

I would classify Aphonopelma as more fossorial than terrestrial personally. All the (many) specimens I've encountered in the wild have burrows nearly 2' deep or more, and they never really leave them. Mine has burrowed down to the bottom of the 7" substrate I've provided, and I have no doubt it would burrow deeper given the opportunity. Just my 2 cents from experience observing them in their natural habitat

I think you should do a remake vid for the curly hair tarantulas, mine is thriving well, but I always like to learn as much research as I possibly can on curly hairs, my Honduran curly hair named "Chunk" personally likes her enclosure humid and just a little bit damp, I made her a cork bark burrow but she mostly prefers to stay out, she's a big baby in terms of personality, she's spoiled, and she's pretty big, but she's deathly afraid of any food I give her unless it's pre-killed lol

Amazing video for an amazing species! Also, I got my GBB from Micro Wilderness. I highly recommend them (GBBs and Mirco Wilderness 😆)

thinkin about buying my first tarantula, really love them ans this seems like a good one for beginners! I would maybe buy an adult to get started, what do I have to expext in terms of cost (not only for the tarantula, also for the enclosure) and what should i add to the enclosure

My Ts including my chalcodes have never burrowed. They're always out. It's nice to see them all, but I always worry they don't like something about their substrate.

My adult female is always out too. She has a bark hide and coco fiber substrate but prefers to be out in the open.

Each day I grow closer and closer to getting a spider. Either an AZ blonde or jumping spider. I'm from AZ and when he said "make sure not to go above 78°f" I kinda laughed cause in the wild they survive the 120°f. But yeah I'd much prefer 78 too lmao

My favorite species. I currently have 2 out of the total 10 one is a small sling that was the first tarantula I ever got and the second is a juive confirmed female who’s just as sweet as a button. Edit: on the hunger strikes my align that I bought didn’t year for nearly the first year of owning them haha

What a beautiful species wow! It's interesting that even with a rather simple color palette, tarantulas can still be stunning. Would you say that there's a connection between a longer lifespan when the tarantula gross slower, or is lifespan all over the place & unrelated to growth speed?

Such a cool species :) Where I live temps are always 30-40 degrees Celsius... Would that be a problem?

I almost got one at an expo. It had around a 3 inch legspan and it was only like 40 bucks. I got a gbb sling and a juvenile A Geniculata instead

Great video Richard! Thanks for keeping the info out there fresh and engaging. Side note: I guess I'm confused..about confused flour beetles lol...do they come from mealworms or something else? I keep finding some kind of beetle in my dubia colony and the little fuzzy, gray worms they pupate from. Are those confused flour beetles/larvae in my dubia colony or are they the beetles that my mealworms turn into? I am confusion.

No, confused flour beetles are tiny little black beetles that live/feed on flour. You typically have to purchase them by name. I discuss them in detail in my video about feeding slings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8NOWj_tlUoA.html
