Yo' about the T getting its legs stuck in things... my murinus does it even in the wholes of the enclosure, she even gets them stuck for a while in styrofoam hides and her normal not textured pot hide... I think it's got a lot to do with T's' individual morphology as my G. pulchra and aphonopelma steindachneri have tiny tiny hooks with tiny suction cups on their legs whereas the murinus, cobalt blue, thai black, and some other old world species have really big hooks and suction cups....

Pets along the lines of axolotls and wild animals they’d help before releasing) when I started talking about an incredibly common toad (literally everywhere) that is for some reason illegal in the state. @awetistic5295
@awetistic5295 Год назад
@@bencehorvath6094 That is not how phobias work. I know perfectly well that the spiders where I live can't hurt me. But the sight of certain spiders instantly triggers anxiety up to a panic attack. It's a response of the nervous system I can't control. I have already come a long way by watching lots of spider videos, I had an adorable pet jumping spider and most eight legged guys are my friends now, but the barn funnel weaver size and shape still causes instant panic. I hope I can get it under control as well. Fear isn't just in our head, it's a complex response caused by brain signals, hormones and our nervous system and you have to work on it the right way or you can make things worse. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Makes me laugh when they say about a sponge in the water - where the heck does a sponge appear in the natural habitat, does the tarantula plod through the jungle to a store and buy one!
@carissafleming5424
@carissafleming5424 4 года назад
Eezee Listen back when sponges in the water became mainstream care tips, the thought was that the T would drown even in shallow dishes. It was thought that they drank from wet leaves or moss in the wild so the sponge was to loosely simulate that. I owned a pet store for almost ten years, entered the biz in 1999 but I did a lot of research back then so I knew about the animals I sold. About a year later I dove a little deeper into T slings, had to learn a lot through trial and error. I just got back into them and have seen some of the husbandry info has changed a bit.
@soniccookie655
@soniccookie655 4 года назад
Personally for me it's because I need to keep the crickets from drowning, and I do occasionally hear that from others as well. I don't use a sponge for multiple reasons but I do keep a few rocks in there, it works well enough.

I would take out the uneaten cricket when she would run away from it, but then would try and feed her again 3 days later. This drew out her premolt time to over a month. Now when she refuses food, being a voracious GBB, I know it's premolt time and don't try and feed her. Her second premolt lasted 16 days compared to the 36 days my attempts to feed her the first time caused because I noticed the signs and left her alone.

Thanks for the video. I had just gotten back into tarantulas after being away for about 20 years. When my wife and I first got married, she would scream at the sight of spiders and cockroaches... Now, she's picked every tarantula I have and she's been raising dubia roaches for our geckos. She's come a long ways and so have I. Great video!

I had a snake as a kid and I feel like I got the advice you got for your tarantula care for my snake, and for my species of snake, it still wasn't the right advice. I realize how amazing it was that so many of our exotics even survived care with the information we got from pet stores or old books. I learned a lot now that I'm older on the proper care for snakes, and trying to learn more for tarantulas too. Thanks for this video and your species specific care guides!

I worked as the resident Arthropoda specialist (specializing in Arachnida) & I agree entirely with this entire video. Well done, bruv 👏👏 I have seen them Ts do some of the most bizarre & at times alarming things (even for me) & come out so resilient like nothing ever happened. Now I’d like to add a couple fun facts: 1) place your T (if their docile or trained enough) on the base of your acoustic guitar: Now play minor chords vs major chords & watch the magic! They do entirely different things to each acoustic resonance. It’s amazing! You’ll love it if you love you some Arachnids. I still have not heard of anyone else doing this to this day. My baby, she’ll be 17 this year! And she loves that stuff. 2) I like to speak the same repetitive words like: “high You baby”, “babyyyy bae-byyy” with my lips pressed against the cage slightly & she’s come to recognize the vibration as someone/something good & she comes right to where I am and puts just 1 pedipalp on the enclosure wall. I know she’s checking the sound for what it is exactly also, but over time, you’ll see what I mean, if you do this, you’ll see it’s more than that. They do recognize their owner over long enough time. 3) I, again, put my lips on the ventilated lid (never mesh: thx God ur telling ppl this...can’t stress it enough) and I breathe slow, hot air straight down & she will come straight over, fairly quick & stands as tall as she can get & sticks her healthy booty (thorax) into the air & basks in the warm, moist air. It’s adorable. I realize that sounds very sensual as I write it out, but she loves it & ive been doing it for her since she was a spiderling. That being said, REALLY GOOD VID. Like your set up as well. Hella cool! 🕸🕷🕸

Thank you so much for creating and making this video. I am a new Mama to my ever sooo sweet, love able, and kind Curly Tarantella Spider named Emily. I love her so much. I grew up with spiders in Louisiana and Texas and I always thought they are sooo pretty and graceful. I have learned sooo much from watching your video. When I bought Emily on 5/10/2022 I was told she is about 2 years old. I felt sorry for her only getting to eat once a week. Especially being a native Texan, I was thinking this is horrible! So I started feeding Emily one cricket ever 2 days. She would of coarse eat the cricket, and always seems so happy and quite content. I want Emily to have the very best life possible. Today, I got on Amazon to order her some new substrate. I hope I bought the right products for her. I’ve learned through my own research she has 8 eyes, yet can’t see very well. However, she can hear up to 10 feet. I keep her next to my recliner chair and she does know and recognize my voice. Also, I have a cat, named Jillian. Jillian is fully aware of Emily, and they actually communicate together using vibrational frequencies. I feel extremely blessed to be part of this collective realm. Once again, thank you sooo much for putting this video out. I truly appreciate you taking your time, energy, and effort in helping we Spider lovers along the best journey. Sent with kindness, Kate

@@alexhshhshsh9961 Based on what I've read online, not really. The new world tarantulas are from the Americas and it's illegal to import exotic animals into Australia. So, you won't really be able to get a new world tarantula in Australia unless someone started breeding them before the importation laws took effect and they're still doing it or they're illegally caught and imported.

Jumping spiders won me over with their cute faces and intelligent, inquisitive nature. I've seen some beautiful tarantulas and may consider owning one or more in the future but I don't want to make a hasty decision or get a pet that I'm not prepared to care for. So, for now, I'll keep admiring them from afar. I'll keep watching your channel as well as some others that I enjoy. Maybe someday I'll do more than just watch but for now I'll be chilling with my jumpers and my other pets. Cheers!

I bought an Aphonopelma chalcodes a few days ago and she seems to be doing good. I did my due diligence, asked the small pet attendant at my local Clark's all the questions regarding keeping a ranchie (my cute name for them, as I love spiders) and I heard plenty of good information. Far from trying to sell me the sponge, he actually told me a sponge wasn't necessary, and neither is gut loading my feeder crickets, keeping a culture of crickets myself, or a heating pad. I'm heading back to the store tomorrow to get a couple of feeder crickets- he said coming in for only a couple of crickets a week is fine, there's no need to raise them for a constant food supply myself, and that she will do fine on nothing but crickets her whole life. I'm not as sure about that last part, I have heard they need a more varied diet, but I know in the wild they would only have access to the local prey, which would be fairly consistent anyway. I do have a cut up bit of towel in her water dish because I had heard before that a ranchie can drown in water, and they suck the moisture from the sponge, but I will be removing that right now. She doesn't keep her legs around her cephalothorax, so I know she's not stressed. She doesn't dart around the few times I've opened her enclosure to put the water dish in. She even has all her urticating hairs still, so I know she's even-tempered. I look forward to trying her on her first meal in my care tomorrow.

It broke my heart to see her dangling and having no way of getting herself loose. I was able to save her after manually cupping her body and getting her claw unstuck, but It's one of my biggest regrets as a tarantula keeper to this day. glad to see you make videos like this though. mistakes in this hobby are common and should be talked about, learned from and--hopefully--never repeated.

Pretty sure there should be no issues with springtails. They are decomposers and only pick on poop and dead stuff. They might pick on the molt if it is left in there long enough, but they are not interested in living tissue.

Some excellent advice. I bought my first tarantula from a reptile shop in 1987 and had the huge tank, heat bulb, aquarium sand as substrate! Within 12 months, I had found the British Tarantula Society and was keeping my ever growing collection in much better conditions. We were obsessed with humidity back then and my vivs were always dripping with water!

LoL.. my wife stays on top of keeping my ego in check...lol. For real though, thanks for your comments. It is nice to hear people are enjoying the videos or find them helpful. I probably spend too much time on them, but I enjoy making them almost as much as I do actually keeping the T's...lol.

This is kinda my problem with new owners, a lot of this can be prevented just by looking at basic care guides, like the substrate thing is something that should be done beforehand.

I agree, but you cant deny the fact that some people fall victim to impulse buying. They're at a show or pet store and see a tarantula and think "why not". And theres some videos of RU-vid with millions of views and likes that was posted 10-12 years ago with horrible husbandry advice. Some people check one source and go from there. Hopefully my videos are just a starting point for people. They will watch a video like this and get motivated to keep researching and acquire as much info on their species and its husbandry as possible.

100% agreed. new hobbyist here. started out a few months ago with a gorgeous sub-adult female lasiodora parahybana. spent at least four months just watching videos on youtube, reading through forums, care sheets, etc., just doing my basic research beforehand. went to different pet stores asking very specific questions to see if what the employees say lines up with what i had read to find a trustworthy place. haven't had any issues so far, still reading up on tarantula care and behavior everyday. yesterday i was talking to a store clerk at a diy store when buying stuff to build enclosures and mentioned that it's for housing tarantulas. turns out he's also a new hobbyist that just got his first one two weeks. HE COULDN'T EVEN NAME THE SPECIES AND WASN'T EVEN SURE IF IT'S A TARANTULA FFS. ("like, one of those big spiders, tara- is that right? tarantula? yeah a tarantula, that's it!") i cringed so hard my spine is now solid diamond. i tried my best not to be condescending and still slip in that doing the research is crucial. he told me he's watching the dark den on youtube so at least he's got a good source for basic information regarding husbandry. long story short: do your research kids. a tarantula might look alien to some, but it is a living and breathing animal, treat it appropriately and try to learn from others' mistakes instead of figuring things out the hard way. hands down one of the best hobbies i've ever picked up. i owe a lot to ttc, tom moran and lots of your fellow tarantula youtubers. ❤️🕷

Basic care guides online can be outdated and miss leading. Not everyone is programmed to find the arachnobaords forum which is my second source of information. My first is hands on experience. But he's right by always researching and doing our homework to improve our methods. The beautiful thing about it is. Naturally all of us T owners develop skills in the field at our own pace. It's great to see this many people connecting :)

Dustin Campbell - Yes, and definitely DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING THE PETCO/PETSMART BROCHURE TELLS YOU!!! Most of it is GENERAL information, and does not pertain to any certain species.

Or like myself, my friend passed away and he left me his snake, I had never owned a snake but took it on without a second thought and now I have 10. Everytime I look at the snake I smile because she reminds me of my friend and the love he had for animals. 8 years on and I wouldnt get rid of her or any of my other animals for love nor money
