It makes me glad that s9fe got to first place!! Being a college student with a small budget, it's really a relief to learn that I'm not missing out on much by planning to get an FE. If anything, I'm getting the exact features I want :D Great video as always!
As someone who used to sell phones and tablets, always start looking at the base model, and see if the higher end models are actually compelling. Base models have become very good devices across most manufacturers.
My mother-in-law just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE yesterday to replace her old iPad! I told my husband that it's a super good tablet and a little jealous 😂. All she uses it for is take photos (she doesn't really care about high quality), reading her news and taking payments for her sales... 😅
hey Brad, chapters would be really useful for review vids like these! some of your other reviews (especially software) are some of my favorite on youtube, and i think some of those do have chapters. thanks for an excellent review again
I went and splurged on a S9 Ultra. I had S7+, but still felt like the screen was missing just a little bit extra space that Ultra gets me. And with new Clip Studio simple mode, it's awesome. Also, it's super easy to use it as an additional PC monitor via USB-C or WiFi and then I can use stylus in combo with Blender for fine sculpting, etc.
@KoustavSamaddar because people have been having some issues, and the first thing I noticed was the home screen usable area has shrunk. There's like 2 inch margins now 🥲. I really hope Samsung fixes this. Same with the icons on the bottom on the home screen
CSP on the Tab S8 has been my favourite thing to draw on. Its not the newest tablet, but it really does the job so well, and CSP is amazing - especially with the DAUB brushes. BTW maybe you could review the DAUB brushes one day?
Yo Brad! Early adopter of the XP-PEN Artist Pro 6 Gen 2 and couldn't be happier. What an amazing piece ot tech and everyday creative workhorse for both graphic design and general illustration. Great, sturdy build - looks sleek over the desk for sure - and perhaps one of the best pens money can buy right now, with the added benefit of being easily carried around alongside a laptop thanks to the 16 form factor and the bonus, ultra-portable remote keypad. Your early review back then heavily weighted on my purchase decision so thanks! That #4 is well-deserved. :D
Thank you Brad..great review ... I am happy that I ordered the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and it will arrive tomorrow...it is suitable for drawing and my budget..and I will get a wacom one stylus with it..
Thank nyou for the review. After watching your video on Galaxy Tab S9 along with other reviews here, I decided to switch from iPad Air to my current Tab S9+. I agree, that was my best decision ever. The only thing I miss was Procreate, but not much. Currently I draw on Clip Paint and HiPaint (procreate copycat) and S Pen is amazing. Its way lighter and nicely fit. I used to change Apple Pencil nip for every other months and looking for best nip was annoying. S Pen on the other hand using Wacom technology which is very good feel to draw on screen.
Same switching from iPad Air 5 to Tab S8 was the best decision ever, endless customization and multitasking features, much nicer feeling S Pen that doesn't need to charge to work, comes in the box and works on my S21 Ultra phone too never buying Apple's overpriced products again
Switching from Ipad Pro 2019 to S9 Ultra was the best decision I made. S9 Ultra is Ultra in the word's truest sense. Amazing display and audio, fantastic drawing experience on the large screen, the rubbery tip of Spen means that I dont need to use a matte screen protector, so display remains crisp. Lastly, clip studio coming in clutch with the simple mode. I do miss procreate, and I hope in 2024 clip studio can add more stuff to simple mode and make it comparable to procreate.
I almost bought the S9 FE this weekend, but ended up buying an XP PEN Deco instead! I'm going to save the price difference in cash and set it aside for the iPad refresh and just work on my skills for now.
Hi, great reviews, thank you! Can you possibly address the usefulness for left-handed people? My son and I (both artists) are both lefties. I'm wondering about a couple of things, specifically 1) do the pens work for lefties, and 2) will the touch-screen erase content if your hand touches it.
I was just using my Galaxy Tab S9 FE that I got on Black Friday while watching this video on my PC and I didn't expect the tablet I'm using is placed number 1 in this video. 😅
Great review! Still have my Samsung Galaxy 7+ (which I bought nearly 3 years ago based on your review of it), and I still love it! Thanks for the work you do! :)
I exclusively use an iPad Air 4 (2020 release) to draw on. It’s an awesome tablet for drawing. Pair that with the Apple Pencil 2 and Sketchbook app, it’s really capable.
Nah samsung galaxy tab s8/s9 series is miles better, switched from an iPad Air 5 and Samsung offers so much more features, better display, higher refresh rate, better S Pen that doesn't need to charge to work and works on your Galaxy phone, limitless multitasking features and all for a price usually cheaper than Apple's overpriced products
Great video, Brad! Do you intend to continue updating the Pen Display Ranking on your website? It would be great to see the models you tested this year compared to the models from previous years that are already in the Ranking.
The ranking helps a lot to know which is the most recommended Pen Display in a given category. Or perhaps a Rating system like "from 1 to 10" ou "5 Stars" or "0 to 100" on the videos themselves could help too. So anyone who is undecided can access the videos of the Pen Displays they are interested in and compare compare the number of stars. It is a more objective metric to know which is better in certain aspects or in its entirety.
Yes, a separate grading system for different aspects such as 6 out of 10 for the screen, 8 out of 10 for the pen, and others categories can make things more objective, especially in terms of price. Brad does a great job of considering value versus what the product delivers. But prices tend to vary a lot after launch and especially during big promotions. Being able to have the aspects evaluated separete would make the purchase choice much easier, Since the price will not be affecting the placement of that product that could becomes a great deal when it is cheaper
Since I already have a Samsung Tab S9+, I'm glad it came in #2. If the S10 Ultra offers 5G in the US, I might buy that. I just got an XP-PEN Deco Pro LW with bluetooth to use with my 14" Lenovo i9 laptop, which has touchscreen but not pen support. I also hope to use the pen tablet with the Tab S9 to provide "invisible hand" top down cam annotation in youtubes. I am a business illustrator, not an artist. Love your approach. Will becwatching your videos henceforth.
I'm very excited about the possibility of videos comparing side-by-side similar Pen Displays of the same size or same price range, which you mentioned in your last Live! It would be a dream to see a comparison between the "Wacom Cintiq 16" x "XPPen Artist Pro16 Gen2" x ""Huion Kanvas Pro16 2.5k", and their respective pens! I hope it happens! ^_^
It will be incredible to see the comparison side-by-side between the pen strokes of the three biggest brands: "Wacom Pro Pen2", with the "XPPen X3 Pro Smart Chip" and with the latest "Huion Pro Pen"
now im happy i bought the no.1 on the list. cause this is the first time im going to buy a tablet XD cause i cant afford a laptop yet, and whenever we go out specially for holidays i just feel its such a waste when i cant do some work. so i decided to buy the samsung s9 fe cause the price was good and the specs are good, i wanted the bigger tab but sadly no budget for that hahah but im happy its a good choice. Question, i also plan on practicing animation and dynamic poses using animation apps, can the tablet handle a full episode like 4-15min of animation using android animation apps?
To those thinking about the Onyx Boox, I love mine, but man is that speedy pen performance ONLY LIMITED to the BOOX NOTE APP, outside of it, it is slow. Even office apps typing on it is slow. Also what annoys me personally, is that you can't turn off the color mode so you can just enjoy the 300PPI Grayscale E-ink Display. And yes I turned on the "ULTRA FAST" mode, which made typing a little more bearable in office apps. I'm a slow typer myself, even so, I am outpacing the onyx boox at their fastest setting. I'm like 50WPM.
Thank you for all your pen display videos - they are helping me decide on which one to buy. Are you able to tell me if XPpen and Huion are reliable or do they run into problems very often, needing repair. I'm in Australia and there are no repair faciliites here which means I'd have to return to country of original and that is prohibitive. My only other option although more expensive, is the entry level Wacom or the new ASUS which you previewed recently. Thank you for any advice.
to see the difference in approah on how when a computer manufacturer try to make art style tablet [asus] they fail the for art part [the pen]. when a in relative smaller graphics tablet for art manufacturer made a portable computer tablet [huion] they almost nail the art part but its downside - since they dont have access to the latest intel/amd stuff - so they practically have older internals. Like Huion Kamvas Studio 16 would been almost perfect for windows folks if its 12 or 13th gen instead of 11.
Hello Brad. I'm an elementary school teacher, a bit on the old side of the tech spectrum:), so I can't figure this one out... I'm not an artist at all, but I've been making t-shirts for friends ... long story short, I use Huion... I like it, but the final product never looks professional enough to me, no matter how much I refine it. I just need to turn the drawing into something simple but solid. Is it only possible on drawing pads? Or can I take one more step after Huion and finish it up? Thank you so much for your wisdom and sharing all this knowledge online. Cheers
Brad, I realize it is a little pricey but could you look at reviewing the Clarity Touch Pro 4K monitor in 2024? Thank you for all of the great reviews.
Hey brad! Can we have a Samsung budget tablets knockout video, s6 lite vs s7 fe vs s9 fe All of them aren't very far apart in price so it would be really helpful to get a overall picture in the sub $500 price category
@@catalinapinzaru9788 doesn't include the s9 fe. It's S6 lite vs s7 fe vs s8 Wanted to see s9 compared to s6 lite as both of them are such a value proposition
I think it's really great that there wasn't anything Apple on the list and that Android is catching up. We'll what Apple brings next year, but for me it's the same with Apple as with Wacom... great stuff, but just too expensive. Having something that hits the sweet spot in price, quality and features is a product that gives so much more satisfaction. Great list, great video. Have a great holiday.
I feel like people dont talk enough about the tab s7 plus. For artists it's the same things as the s9 plus but at a much lower price. If you NEED the ultra's huge screen, go with the s8 ultra. I just got a tab s7 plus and the drawing experience on this is beyond amazing
I have a question. I have a ipad pro 11 inch from 2020. Now how does it stand up against all the other ipad pros that has been released since? Is any of them better to draw on or have better new features for other things?
Ended up returning my Huion 22 Plus. I couldn't ever get the color calibrated correctly. I ended up getting the XP-Pen 24 Aritst QHD and love it so far. Way easier to color calibrate and the pen to my feel works better too. I have only used a lenovo Yoga from a few years ago and it was useless even with the wacom pen upgrade. I thought that would've been an upgrade from my Yiynova MSP19U+ it wasn't. I am very happy now. wouldn't mind trying a standalone tablet when I can afford one.
@alluredrms I haven't really noticed it. I had a yiynova before and it is so much better than that. Didnt tell much difference between the kamvas and the Xp-pen in that regard.
Which would you get the Galaxy tab s8 or the Galaxy tab s9 FE? (Older higher end or newer with a little less bells and whistles) I'm only interested in the 11" tabs for their portability.
hi Brad, great video! Just a question: When you say smooth surface, do you mean like the older wacom pentablets? (I got a bamboo cte650 and I'm trying to find something similar to that drawing experience) Ty again! The galaxy tab s9 fe sure looks like a great value in tech!
Hi! if you could help me out at all I'd really appreciate it! I want to start digitally drawing, and I already have a computer, but I need a touch screen in order to draw so I've been trying to find a a drawing tablet that will do. I only need to draw, no other computer-like utilities, but I need it to work even when not connected to my computer so I can hook it up to transfer all my art. I'm hoping a option like this exists, please let me know if you know of anything! Thank you!
Yo Brad, what do you use to hold up tablets that don't have good kickstands or folding cases for drawing? Doesn't look like the OnePlus Pad or Google Pixel Tablet, for example, are lying flat on the table.
the xp pen 2ng gen 14inch has a standard hd resolution not QHD so it's not worth the downgrade to save on $. It's also very heavy compared to huion's 16 and 13.3 inch version of a similar tablet who have QHD on the small version but xp doesn't. Also XP pen doesn't refund u fully if you try it out for a week but return it, only 80%. And the shipping waiting time is like a month in europe.
with the new Huion Kamvas Pro 27 being out, I wonder how it stacks up against the Xecelabs pro 24? Right now my main drawing tablet is a M1 ipad pro 12.9.
Oddly enough I have the #1 and #2 on this list! Couldn't agree more with the video 😅 although mine are both 5G versions and the fe edition still has not received the one ui6 updated yet. But they are amazing tablets and I use them so much that I hardly touch my s23 ultra.
For someone who can draw on like a notebook/sketchbook what would be the best tool for graphic art. I've tried to use just a normal drawing tablet (no screen) be the skills don't translate well. What would you suggest?
Can you review the Lenovo Legion Y700 (2023 Model) its a small 8.8" tablet that has pen support and is a powerhouse (SD 8+ G1 / 12GB Ram) for only $499
Still waiting for Brad to review the Ugee 15. Not the greatest, but still good and it only $150. Only reason I am commenting is because this is the first time I’ve been in the first 20 people to comment on anything lol
I've only ever owned one drawing glove which came packaged with my Parblo tablet stand. It works like the day I got it, which is more than a year ago. Nothing is particularly fancy about it. It feels nice though.
I have a really important question, does super display work on tab s9 fe? Or second display? And if they do, is it wired or wirelessly? And how is the lag? My friend is trying to buy tab s9 fe and this feature is really important for her
i think samsung are far greater than apple why they have no restriction , better screen quality and multiple options that have good prices even the ultra isn't to over priced and they can use sdcard. while apple have huge restrictions,no sdcard option, low storage unless you pay crazy amount and gotta spend 100 plus on a pen only good thing about apple is purely cause the software support they have for artists.
ohh tell how apples 60hz, 64gb 700 pound tablet with no oled screen and no pen is better than a 12.5 inch, oled screen with no restriction, 128gb with sd card options and a free pen that's made by wacom and has 120hz screen tell me how apple is better other than there amazing procreate app ohh my im frilled to spend 800 plus on using procreate @@LinoCrafts
Hey Brad! Cheers!
So I love the content but I feel like whether a new iPad came out this year or not it doesn't change the relative value. But that is just me. I'm not going to disregard something just because it's not this year's model. Personally, I feel like the best of a certain year should be the best products available that year, not the best products released in that year. There are a lot of products here that You clearly would not recommend and I feel like it would be more useful if it were hey it's the end of 2023 and these are the best products out there if you want to buy something now.
In 2020+, I really don't understand why any artist would use a drawing tablet that you have to plug into a computer over a standalone tablet. I've used an iPad Pro since 2016 and I can never go back to a Wacom or anything like that, regardless of having a bigger screen. The freedom of taking it anywhere, the light weight, the fact you can rotate it from landscape to portrait view, the great screen resolution. Everything is just so much better. I think people feel like they are tied to computers because of Photoshop being a desktop app. They need to forget about Photoshop. It's an old app that isn't great for artists... That's coming from someone that's been using it since 1992.
It comes back to one alternate definition of "professional tool" being "it's a job to learn how to use it". The classic PC + Wacom + Photoshop setup is still "professional" by that standard, which doesn't mean it's actually relevant to things most people want to do now, but it might still be applicable for someone working in film, games, etc. where there are weird studio-specific workflows that lead towards standardizing on Adobe or Autodesk tools, or in animation, apps like Blender, TVPaint, etc. that are PC-centric. I still enjoy plug-in tablets because I want to control the surface texture, and I can do that by taping some paper over a pen digitizer with no display. It lets me use any paper in the world and it really spruces up the feeling of the tab for me. I think that's where the best case for working on a PC is today - you have options to tinker around and customize instead of accepting the iPad defaults.
