The fact he says that when he JUST remembered her is beyond fucking dumb. Then that dumb imagery with Dante on the Angel side while Vergil is on the Demon pisses me off. I feel when I hear people go well DmC has a message and is about something DMC isn't I just sigh and fucking point out DMC was never meant to mean anything beyond being badass while DmC tries poorly and incredibly stupidly obvious tries and have a message. I say have Dino show up as a movie poster. make it seem like Dante sold the rights to his story but they just made a gritty teen romance movie. Have them say something like I needed the money or the movie wasn't that bad the kid tried.

7:22 That was always my biggest problem with Osirus doors, it just feels so unsatisfying to open them. They don't rip apart, they don't shred, you only get a tiny bit particle effects from door when you use them but not ENOUGH, and the door itself is static. It feels just so bad. Also, here's a thought that could have made design choices better. Vergil has blue, he has white hair, he seems to have Angelic Weapon colors. Why not make it so that Vergil got more into his Angel heritage, while Dante got more into his Demon Heritage, making clear distinction between the two here? Hell, you could have actually made him have shooty angel weapons, if you estabilished magic-tech like Darksiders Angels. Even without those, it'd just fit. Not only did Vergil START with White Hair, but Dante's colors are literally demon colors. That way Vergil's Downfall DLC would be about him seeking more demon powers for himself, corrupting those he has through that. Even for End of Game, you could have made it so that Dante's Devil Trigger is actually Angel Trigger near the end, as he got character development and got some angel powers THEN. That'd estabilish a cool distinction and parallel between the two. Vergil starting off angel-theme and corrupting himself for power, seeking demonic power and part of heritage. Dante starting off chaotic, rebellious with demonic powers, awakening to justice or good and gaining angelic powers of his heritage when he finally learns to care. Vergil showing off order and justice, as he starts off with secret organization, but going into "for greater good" or tyrant path of SMT Order. Dante showing off chaos and rebellion, due to how he is against authority and all that punk stuff, but later symbolizing more of freedom part of it Edit: Okay, whenever I fought with my brother, we were STILL wearing clothes? WHO WOULD WANT TO BE HIT IN BARE SKIN WITH WOODEN SWORD

The one thing I find unforgivable about this game is how sparda the guy who did everything becomes almost nothing. Example original Dante and Virgil are called sparda's seed because he was so cool that's all they saw of worth about the twins. Here it's like sparda father of the twins. And I'm not saying he has to be the same, just not a legendary dark gimp. And pat's super right they could litteraly save him any moment after the end of the game.
Also would mundus not dab sparda up for knocking boots with an angel? I understand that he loved her and did not want to do demon stuff anymore, but a conversation where mundus is going great job sparda for tapping some angel booty and lets raise those nephilim to work for us. All the while sparda is tugging his collar and going "Yeah sure." Ps. I imagine this sparda with a dad bod and that makes me chuckle.
In this game Sparda and Mundus are brothers. So they killing their uncle and they never go back to to save their dad. We don't know if dad or mom have cool powers or moves. Also Vergil in the DLC kills his own mom and kills clone of Dante and of himself and gets new powers to raises a army of demons making him the new demon king.
That's my issue with some peoples take on how this game "subverts" I guess the expectation of Sparda. I see comments going yeah it's great he is a nobody so that way the twins stand out on there own. But they don't, at no point are they not referred to (At least so far. I have not played this game only saw some cutscenes.) as either The Sons of Sparda like it means something, Seed of Sparda, or Nephilim in reference to their parents. Say what you will about Sparda's legacy in DMC but at least that Dante had a reputation before 1 as a renowned demon hunter, in 2 he was a legendary demon hunter, but I will say in 3 him and Vergil are really just the Sons of Sparda for the most part.

Also to subvert past expectations of Sparda maybe don't start the game on the guy he was supposed to have beaten and banished perfectly fine in the first seconds of the game. There is no expectation to anything Sparda did after that since that is the big huge thing he did.
True fact: Vergil was originally cooler in the concept art, and for some reason was changed to... this, I guess. Vergil 2.0 (-.1) was a severe germaphobe, and obsessively cleaned blood off of Yamato. He wore a pair of white gloves he would burn in a second if there was even a speck of gore on it. And his violent outbursts when getting dirty would help foreshadow his (obvious spoiler) turn to villainy.
Pretty funny how you see a bunch of angels surrounding Dante with his dead mother, but they dont do a damn thing at all in this game. You'd think they'd try to protect Dante and Vergil after their parents were attacked.
Yeah, there’s basically ZERO angel stuff in this game outside of Eva, and blue weapons. Like, if Eva was still a human, and the blue weapons were just different types of Devil Arms, there would be NOTHING different about this game.

Fun fact: this game still continues the tradition of hiring toku actors that started in DMC3. The actor for this Virgil is David de Lautour AKA the Wolf Ranger from Power Rangers Jungle Fury.
Mundus believed only one child was born, even though he went to their house and would have seen family photos of them together like the one Dante found smashed.
You could make a whole top 10 list of characters who had unused designs that were much cooler than the ones the developers went with. On a side note, I wouldn't have minded if we got Jason Statham or Hellboy Donte instead.
all the textures on her face are so messed up especially in later scenes of the game. She's such a forgettable design but also seems like there are actual technical problems with the model.

Sparda's locked in the room with the girls that have the giant intrusive monster dicks, he gets split like a log or an ass massage that he can taste, both if he's been naughty or Donte gets a SSS
I like the idea that everyone thinks Sparda is being tortured in hell forever -- but in truth they just couldn't figure out a way to break they guy's will enough to get a rise out of it without just leaving a way for Sparda to escape -- and so they just threw him into a pocket dimension where the only thing that exists is Sparda while telling everyone else 'yeah we're super torturing that guy'. It would also make room for the cheesiest line for Sparda to say at the end of the franchise where 'Hell isn't pain or suffering -- it's the absence of the love of my sons and my wife.' (to twist on that whole dumb 'Hell is the absence of God's Love' thing and to get in another jab on the conga line of 'hell-spawn utterly missing the point of things')

Every time I see Sparda in this game, I'm just all like, "Wow, THAT's Sparda?" Seriously, this game's version of Sparda doesn't deserve the title of Legendary Dark Knight when he's just some balding middle aged man who runs away from the big bad evil guy instead of taking him and his army head on, and can't even protect his own wife before being captured and locked in Mundus's BDSM dungeon. And what the hell is the point of obscuring his face? I still don't understand that. And another thing, are we not gonna talk about how Mundus is Dante's uncle in this?

Master Markus but specifically this game. Here's a reboot to a series that's taking elements from the spiritual successor of said game series. It's fucking weird. I mean just think about it. Dedicated dodge button. Battles take place in "the space between spaces" that effect the material world. The main character is conceived between a taboo romance. All of those things in this DmC are in Bayonetta so why the hell would anyone play this specific game when Bayo exists!
So one of the things that bothered me is the lack of angels in the game besides Eva, at least in any real capacity. Like, are the angels who surround Don'te and his dead mom real? Are they his aunts? Was Bob Barbas a corrupted angel and that's why he has Aquilla?

Let's be real, the reason they gave Virgil a fedora is because at least one person on the dev team unironically wears one constantly. Isn't Donte's face even modelled after the lead dev?
The best way to put a Donte picture is have it in a tiny frame on a filing cabinet, Vurgil and Kat next to him. Trish picks it up and says something like "cute baby picture", and Dante does the Picard face palm and says just sighs.
I call the Uncharted style platforming "On-Rails-Platforming" because that's essentially what you're doing, because they're "on-rails" sections but you get character movement and you can jump, but there's no actual skill involved most of the time. It's basically like a mine cart second in an old platformer, but you can move and stop the mine cart whenever you want.
Those traversal areas are purely there so the player has more input than pushing forward, its just there to make you think you are doing something in-between the moments where you actually are doing something and I'm not saying it in defense of this game but just about every game has them or an equivalent including the other dmc titles. It is filler but it can be used well to keep the player engaged while the game tells them something or to build atmosphere or tension or to give the player a moments respite.
Honestly I'd probably like Donte better if he was an eldritch wheel of eyes and wings and other weird shit that angels were originally described as before the church changed them all to boring pretty winged dudes.
Because they're doing *Supernatural*, American style angels and demons where they just look like humans who can do glowy eye shit and you can only tell it's satan because his shadow has horns and a tail. ThEy'Re LiVinG aMoOonG UuUuuUs!
Stupid thing 3: it should go without saying, but the amnesia plot reveal is one of the laziest ways to write a plot twist. The only way to make it more palatable is to have there be a legitimate reason for it to have happened, which to DmC's credit does do with *_Sparda_* rewriting Donte's memories himself. It's just a shame it goes back around to being dumb because of the poor writing of Donte's inner monologue, which makes him seem even more stupid than he actually is.
@@vfvfblki See 15:20 for an easy example. His monologue is also written as if he were expounding to another person, when he's just thinking to himself. DmC in general is pretty guilty of characters devolving into exposition, instead of organically interacting with one another. It's lazy writing.

I get what Pat means regarding a possible reference to DmC in 5. They tried something new, it didn't work out, they went back to the what does work. The easiest thing to do at this point would be to just pretend it didn't happen, but by going out of their way to remind people it happened (assuming they don't just shit on it) they send a clear message that there should be some amount of respect for what they were trying to do, even if not for the end result.
Here's my idea for a Donte cameo in DMCV: Dante just has a framed picture of him on his desk. Whenever someone asks him who it is in the picture he just changes the subject, and it's never explained.

No, it isn't. Vergil wanting to continue the line of Sparda even if that means he has to sigh his way into sexy times with an appropriate incubator makes more sense than Fifty Shades of Dad Sparda.
My headcanon is that Nero is Vergil's son through artificial insemination (maybe done by the Order of the Sword or something) until proven otherwise. I don't remember him ever talking about wanting to continue the line of Sparda - HE wanted to be powerful. He's no family man, and I don't know why he'd have any interest in continuing his line but totally avoiding his child. Also, the timeline of when Nero could be born is a bunch of fuckery, but that's a separate issue.

Is it weird to say that DmC has some of the better controlling platforming (even though some can be boring or too easy) of the entire series? it seems like an improvement on Nero's grab from DMC4 for when he's traversing locations.
It dawns on me that DINO's design is just terrible. Even divorced from being not-Dante (although it does further highlight why Dante's design was so solid). He's just a whole mess of basically boring, bland, black, against a background of red-tinted greys. And those red tints only make the red highlights on his jacket an actual bad thing because they serve to further blend him into the background. I'm fairly certain they HAD to include all those flashes on the weapons because otherwise it would be impossible to track the guy or what he is doing during the hectic combat. Nevermind that in cutscenes where we see his face he looks like just a random generic dude with short hair and a nondescript face, with a way to serious expression or is angrily pouting. All kind of like you guys were mentioning about the bland enemy designs. Compared to oh...Dante, who is a big blob of red with white against a dark grey, black setting. Or is fighting different enemies of varying color schemes (all the blue on Vergil being the big one, obviously). And with a variety of weapons that all look and behave VERY differently from one another. And in cutscene he has so much personality, in his expressions, his movements, his speech, and his red coat and mid-length white hair are all things that set him apart from the crowd of game characters rather than blending him in (like DINO as I spent the first half of this comment pointing out).
I don't follow these fine fellas outside of RU-vid (and their abandoned website, as I recall) but does anyone know if they plan on having Woolie play the Vergil DLC?
When I saw them start playing this, I decided to play it myself. I already finished it and I gotta, say it's underrated. I had a really fun time with it.
It has problems with its gameplay, but those were never the stuff that fucked the game over, coloured enemies aside. It's actually pretty smart in most respects. So I actually really dig that Itsuno's been taking stuff from it.

I mean, DMC3 had Beowulf, named after a Scandinavian monster slayer but based on the look of a Mesopotamian demon. I would chalk this up to simply another "It sounds cool, I guess"
